Chapter 1797: Chapter 1799: Child’s Play
This entire summer was spent over in Guangcheng, and now back home in Qing City, Cheng Su felt a kind of disorienting sense of having been away forever.
Looking at the house which had lacked warmth for the past two months, and especially missed a male presence, it felt cold and somewhat uncomfortable. Cheng Su thought that she really wouldn’t be able to stay long in a home without happiness.
Fortunately, this is her last year of university, after this year she’ll completely move to Guangcheng. At least she’ll be closer to Qi Taiguo, and even if it’s just during his vacation, they would still be able to meet.
No matter what, life must go on. Cheng Su silently told herself to stay strong and began to prepare to clean the house.
“Mom, you and Xiao Qi take a rest first, I’ll do the cleaning. There’s too much dust in the house.” Cheng Su said, having been away for nearly two months, there was dust everywhere at home.
Mother Cheng, who was of certain age and had sat through such a long train ride, was exhausted even though it was a sleeper train. Upon hearing this, she didn’t hesitate to take Cheng Su up on her offer, and went into the room with a sleepy Qi Xiaoqi in her arms.
Only then did Cheng Su turn on the radio, listening to the currently popular station, and picked up a cloth, wiping here and there, sweeping and mopping.
After more than an hour, when the inside and outside were spotless and shiny, she collapsed onto the sofa, not moving.
It would be great to have a maid, then she wouldn’t have to clean so painstakingly herself.
After sitting for a while and catching her breath, Cheng Su grabbed a basket and her wallet, ready to go out and buy groceries, as there was hardly any food left at home.
Downstairs, walking into the courtyard, she saw some familiar family members, all greeting her, and some unfamiliar faces, whom she discovered, after introductions, were new residents.
Cheng Su greeted them one by one, and then went out to buy vegetables. She hadn’t gone far when she heard people discussing her, full of praise and envy, causing her to smile involuntarily.
Cheng Su was a legend among the families at Goodwill Place, which was well-known; to such discussions, she was accustomed and said nothing. The old saying goes, people see her success, but not the effort she puts into it.
Going to the farmers’ market, she brought back a basket of meat and vegetables, and in the courtyard, she ran into Qiulan.
“Qiulan, you… you’re pregnant?” Cheng Su stared wide-eyed at Qiulan’s large belly, dumbfounded.
How come it’s so big all of a sudden? Before the vacation, her belly was still flat.
Qiulan blushed, touched her belly, and said, “Over five months, previously there weren’t any symptoms, so I didn’t say anything.”
Cheng Su said, “You’re being too casual about this, not mentioning your pregnancy, walking around in the restaurant, if you slipped, that… phew phew!”
She spat a few times to rid the bad luck from her words.
“It’s alright, I’ve been very careful.” Qiulan smiled shyly.
“Even so, it’s not enough—this is five months… Ah, are you here today to see your sister? How about coming to my place for a sit-down, you haven’t visited since I moved, have you?” Cheng Su reached out to grab her hand.
Qiulan said, “I’m off today, came over to my elder sister’s to pick up something, didn’t realize you’d be back, just as well, I need to talk to you about my belly. You go on home, and I’ll stop by after visiting my sister?”
“That’s fine too.” Cheng Su said, “Why don’t you come over for dinner then?”
“No need, Xiao Jiang will come pick me up later.” Qiulan said with a smile.
Cheng Su had no choice but to agree, saying, “Then come up later.”
The two parted ways, each heading to their own home.
