Chapter 1983: Chapter 1985: Anyway, I Want to Be a City Dweller

Huangtian Village, Qi family.

Just after finishing a call with Cheng Su, Mother Qi came over excitedly and asked her husband: "How did it go? Are we moving? When is it happening?"

"It’s not that fast, Xiao Qi’s mom just graduated, and she still has things to deal with these days."

Mother Qi frowned and said: "Didn’t they say they’d go to Guangcheng right after graduation?"

"It’s not like they go immediately, they have no connections in Qing City, but they still need to work there, right? They have to get ready!" Father Qi said, "Besides, what are you rushing for? It’s so hot right now, we’re fine here with cool breeze and cold water, but Guangcheng is terribly hot."

He wasn’t that keen on moving to Guangcheng; life in the village was quite nice, especially now that the children have grown up and are capable, there’s no financial pressure, no need to work hard for pennies; just farm, plant vegetables, and when free, play cards or chess with villagers, chat and relax.

Living in Guangcheng would be different. The city is big, transportation is convenient but unfamiliar; when you are not familiar with the roads, you might get lost and need help, it’s cumbersome.

Also, there aren’t many people they know there, few words could be exchanged. It’s like visiting the Cheng family as guests, not the same type of people, conversations don’t hit the point, it’s mentally exhausting.

So, Father Qi wasn’t really eager to move to Guangcheng, an occasional stay might be fine, but living there long-term, not really interested.

After hearing her husband’s words, Mother Qi rolled her eyes and said: "Are you stupid? You’d rather be a country bumpkin than a city person? Visiting big cities isn’t good for gaining experience? What future is there stuck in a mountain village?"

She could really be infuriated by this stubborn husband, who doesn’t want to go out and see the world, to become city people? Even the young ones in the village keep saying they want to find a city wife!

Yet he talks about unfamiliar roads and not knowing people; stay longer and you get used to it, it’s all about habit!

"Besides, the in-laws have already bought a house; I see they’re definitely moving to Guangcheng. Everyone wants to be city folks except you, with no ambition!" Mother Qi spat.

Father Qi took a puff of his cigarette and replied: "At our age, seeking ambition for what? Let the young ones strive, it’s theirs to deal with. At our age, staying in this place with clear mountains and water, we’re healthier and live longer! Big cities have more cars, people, and pollution. Living in the village? That’s called... right, wellness!"

Mother Qi chuckled: "Oh wow, wellness? You never seemed this particular before! Anyway, I don’t care, I’m going to be with my son and grandson. Staying home with no sight of them, it’s dull! Whether you want wellness, up to you!"

Father Qi glanced at her and said: "Let’s wait until the daughter-in-law settles in, and we’ll plan then. It’s very hot now. Also, Taiguo hasn’t returned, what’s the hurry?"

"Not back yet? Wasn’t it supposed to be half a year? Hope nothing happened?" Mother Qi immediately became anxious.

The ominous words made Father Qi glare at her: "Can’t you speak properly? They said half a year to a year, it’s normal not returning yet."

Mother Qi also realized her words weren’t great, spat twice, sat down: "My son works hard, putting his life on the line, while they enjoy ready-made blessings, indeed they have a good fortune..."

Listen to that bitterness, almost sounding like she was badmouthing Cheng Su.

Father Qi couldn’t stand it and sneered: "Don’t forget, the house you live in as city folks belongs to your daughter-in-law, not your son; who’s enjoying the blessing?"

Mother Qi watched her husband hum as he walked away, hummed herself, and kept muttering.
