Chapter 2005: Chapter 2007: Mother-in-law Arrives
As July was nearing its end, Mother Qi suddenly appeared in front of Cheng Su, looking travel-worn and carrying two large bags, with one of them being carried by Qi Jianguo.
Cheng Su was surprised. Why did they come without even a heads-up? So suddenly?
"Mom, why did you come all of a sudden? Where’s my father-in-law?" She didn’t see any sign of Father Qi. What happened? Did she come alone?
"Your father-in-law said he wouldn’t come for now and that he’d come after returning from Taiguo, said it was too hot. How is it hot? Mid-Autumn is almost here; it’s quite cool!" Mother Qi said, "I figured you’d be busy, so I wouldn’t bother you; just called Jianguo to pick me up."
Qi Jianguo looked apologetic, his intention was to notify Cheng Su first, but Mother Qi forbade him, fearing Cheng Su would make an excuse to block her visit.
Cheng Su said, "You should have called first. What if you got lost? You came alone."
"No big deal, I had Fenglian buy me a train ticket. As soon as I got off, I saw Jianguo." Mother Qi brushed it off nonchalantly.
Cheng Su frowned, meaning everyone else knew but she only found out when seeing them here.
Cheng Su felt uncomfortable. Although she knew the in-laws would come eventually, common courtesy is to notify. Now everyone knows except her, who are they guarding against?
Don’t say it’s a surprise. To her, it wasn’t a surprise, more like a shock.
"Mom, this is too reckless. Guangcheng is so big, what if you got lost and we couldn’t find you? Please don’t be so rash next time. If something happens, how do I explain it to Taiguo?" Cheng Su said lightly. Since they were already here, she couldn’t do anything about it.
Mother Qi cautiously glanced at her expression, seeing she wasn’t too angry, she heaved a sigh of relief.
She then noticed Xiao Qi, her eyes lit up. Although she was annoyed with Cheng Su and her son tending more to the maternal side, she had mild complaints regarding the grandson. But seeing him now, her heart was filled only with joy.
Having not seen him for half a year, her grandson had grown, seemed spirited, and handsome.
Cheng Su cleared her throat to Qi Xiaoqi.
Qi Xiaoqi stood up leisurely, walked beside Mother Qi, and called out softly, "Grandma."
"Ah, ah, my dear grandson, still remembers grandma!" Mother Qi was overjoyed, "Grandma brought you some goodies."
Saying this, she began searching through the big bag she had brought.
Seeing these two large bags gave Cheng Su a headache, wondering how she managed to carry them alone from the train station?
Mother Qi took out a bag of sticky rice cakes, saying, "Grandma made these cakes using our homegrown glutinous rice, filled with peanut and sesame paste, smells delicious."
She opened it, and Cheng Su immediately smelled a sour odor, quickly stopping her, "Mom, let me take a look."
Without waiting for Mother Qi’s reaction, she snatched the bag of cakes from her, took a whiff, and said, "Mom, this can’t be eaten, it’s all gone bad."
"What? No way, I just made them when I left!" Mother Qi exclaimed.
"Auntie, the weather is so hot these days, even two days wrapped up everything will spoil," Fei Yin chuckled, saying.
Mother Qi then noticed Fei Yin, looked to her daughter-in-law and asked, "This is..."
"Oh, this is my friend. Came to keep Xiao Qi company, her name’s Fei Yin," Cheng Su replied.
Mother Qi suddenly understood, sized Fei Yin up, feeling a bit uneasy again. Really, they’d rather let outsiders keep the child company than call them over?
Having stood for a while, she remembered not seeing her in-laws, asking again, learned they were at the new house. She pursed her lips, but quickly cheered up, as she finally reunited with her grandson.
