Chapter 2006 - 2008: Someone Is Staring

Chapter 2006: Chapter 2008: Someone Is Staring

The unexpected arrival of her mother-in-law caught Cheng Su off guard. First of all, the housing arrangement at home was a bit tight. It’s a small three-bedroom house, how many people can live in it?

Luckily, the house on the parents’ side was already tidied up. Father Cheng and the others said they could just go back and stay there. In fact, they were planning to return to the hometown in a few days to tidy up again before moving here later on.

Mother Qi didn’t say much, nor did she plan to drive the in-laws away upon her arrival. Living at her son and daughter-in-law’s place was only right. Besides, the in-laws weren’t without a place to go. That house belonged to the Cheng family. Isn’t that even better?

It was already night, but in Guangcheng, it’s said to be a city that never sleeps. At eight in the evening, the streets were still lively, with orange streetlights lining the road, quite unlike the darkness in small towns or the countryside.

Cheng Su took Qi Xiaoqi to see her parents off downstairs.

"Dad, Mom, no need to come over these days. If there’s anything at home you need to buy, just get it, and bring the stuff needed for the hometown when it’s time," Cheng Su instructed.

"Is it okay not to come over? Your father-in-law didn’t come, is it okay with just your mother-in-law looking after Xiao Qi?" Mother Cheng was worried.

Cheng Su laughed, "What’s the worry? Isn’t Fei Yin there too?"

"True. But your mother-in-law came without a word, could she be upset? Can’t hold it in anymore?" Mother Cheng said, pursing her lips.

During dinner, Mother Qi made quite a few snide remarks, both openly and subtly!

Cheng Su said, "If she wants to come, let her come. For now, we’ll live together, and later I’ll buy a bigger house to live separately."

Mother Cheng was taken aback, "Live separately from your in-laws? Are you crazy? Who doesn’t live with their in-laws?"

"What’s so unusual about it? In our village, after families split, isn’t it the same? Some elderly live alone too, as long as it’s not far," Cheng Su wouldn’t live with her in-laws long-term, to avoid becoming mutually displeased.

Mother Cheng wanted to say something, but Father Cheng tugged her, saying, "The child knows her own limits, don’t interfere too much."

Cheng Su smiled, then pulled out a wad of money from her pocket and stuffed it into Father Cheng’s hand.

"Dad, take this money. Use it to buy something for the house if needed. Don’t skimp, just spend it," she said.

Father Cheng quickly tried to give it back, "Why give us money again? We have enough. Take it back. You already put a lot into the house, and you need money to run your business!"

"Dad, just take it. Am I short of this bit of money?" Cheng Su insisted, "You’ve been diligently helping me take care of Xiao Qi for the past six months. This is what I owe you for your care, right, Xiao Qi?"

"Right. Grandpa, take it. When I grow up, I’ll take care of you too!"

Father Cheng was particularly pleased, nodding repeatedly, and Mother Cheng hugged him and kept kissing him.

Cheng Su hailed a taxi to send her parents on their way. She didn’t head back upstairs with her son until the car was out of sight.

"Your eccentric grandma has arrived. From now on, it’s going to be quite the ordeal for us," Cheng Su said.

"Just to be clear, when you go to work tomorrow, don’t leave me behind. I don’t want to deal with her," Qi Xiaoqi said.

"But Fei Yin’s there!"

"Still, I don’t want to be stuck staring at her. She annoys me, and..." Qi Xiaoqi suddenly paused and turned around.

They were at the entrance of the stairway; why stop suddenly?

"What’s wrong?" Cheng Su asked.

Qi Xiaoqi looked around, frowning, "It feels like someone is staring at us."
