Chapter 1230: Xu Ye’s Inheritance
Chapter 1230: Xu Ye’s Inheritance
Listening to Huang Fei’s words, Su Jing found herself strangely inclined to believe her. After all, Huang Fei had just been released from prison, and as a daughter-in-law of the Xu family, one would expect her to return to the family estate immediately.
Yet here she was, wandering outside, forced to wait at the Su residence just to catch a glimpse of her child. It was obvious—someone in the Xu household had threatened her, barring her from seeing her own son.
Huang Fei was certainly at fault, and sympathy was scarce. But Su Jing couldn’t help but think of her own sister, Su Mo—who had devoted her entire life to loving Xu Ye, bearing his children, and yet died without ever receiving a proper place in his heart or family. The injustice burned like a fire in her chest. Su Mo may have failed her three children, but she had never wronged Xu Ye.
That was the true nature of the Xu family. Use a woman until she was no longer convenient, then discard her without a second thought. Huang Fei’s husband was no different. The Xu family tradition was clear: women who bore their children were either shut out entirely or forced into divorce once their usefulness ran dry.
Feigning distrust, Su Jing’s voice hardened. “I don’t believe you. Unless you’re willing to come with me to the Xu family and face them directly, I’ll have no choice but to take you to the police. Today, I’m going to get justice for my sister. I want to know how the Xu family teaches their sons—why they shirk responsibility and still stir up trouble.”
Huang Fei’s face fell. She didn’t want to go, but with Su Jing’s iron grip, resistance was useless. Reluctantly, she followed Su Jing to the car and went on their way to the Xu estate. No matter what, this was a good excuse to return home, and when she met Xu Fan, she vowed to plead with him—she could not afford a divorce.
Meanwhile, at the Xu residence, Yu Fang followed her usual weekend routine. After breakfast, she was preparing to take Xu Sheng to the library—a pastime he loved and she was happy to indulge.
But her thoughts drifted to her other three grandchildren, and a pang of regret tightened her chest. Would she ever earn their forgiveness?
Unexpectedly, Xu Sheng protested. “Grandma, I’m fine reading at home today. I don’t want to go out.”
Yu Fang raised an eyebrow. “But didn’t you say you finished all the books you borrowed last time? Why not borrow some new ones? Or better yet, why not go to the Su house like before? You went yesterday, and they didn’t mind you. That means the Su family is reasonable—they don’t hold our past mistakes against you. Besides, you can keep your cousins company.”
At the mention of the Su family, Xu Sheng’s resistance grew stronger. He waved her off quickly. “Grandma, I really don’t want to go. Let’s just stay home.”
Yu Fang looked thoughtful. Just then, Xu Fan entered the room. “I’m planning to visit the Su house today,” he said. “I want to hand over the inheritance left by your eldest uncle to Su Bing and the others. You’ve always wanted to be close to them, so why not come along? The books can wait.”
Xu Fan had thought carefully about this. He rarely dealt with Su Shen, but he knew from military contacts that Su Shen was a man of integrity who had shed blood for the people.
As for Gu Zi, her devotion to her three children was unquestionable. He wasn’t worried that this couple would ever take advantage of the children’s inheritance. Giving it to them was, without a doubt, the wisest decision.
Yet Xu Sheng’s unusual behavior unsettled both Xu Fan and Yu Fang. Wasn’t he always begging to visit the Su family? Why the sudden reluctance? Their exchanged glances betrayed silent suspicion.
Just then, a servant burst in, breathless. “Madam, Second Young Master’s wife has brought a woman to the house, causing a commotion. They’re asking for you both.”
At the mention of Huang Fei, Yu Fang’s expression darkened. She turned to Xu Fan. “I’m done meddling in your affairs. You deal with Huang Fei yourself. Let’s go down and see them. After all, she is still Xu Sheng’s biological mother.”
Downstairs, Yu Fang led her son and grandson to the living room, where Huang Fei and Su Jing were already waiting. Xu Fan strode forward, pulling Xu Sheng beside him.
“Since you came here looking for trouble,” Xu Fan said coldly, “you’ll get to see Xu Sheng, but that’s all. We’ll finalize the divorce soon, and I’ll compensate you financially.”
The words shattered whatever fragile composure Huang Fei had left. Her voice cracked with desperation. “No, Xu Fan! I don’t want a divorce! I told you, I’m the daughter-in-law of this family. Nobody can just throw me out!”
Clinging to Xu Fan, she ignored the stunned silence in the room. Yu Fang turned her gaze away, unable to watch. Instead, she looked at Su Jing, who met her eyes with an unflinching hatred.
Yu Fang blinked in surprise. “Who… are you?”
