Chapter 1231: Talking With the Su Family
Chapter 1231: Talking With the Su Family
Su Jing’s gaze sharpened the moment she recognized the elderly lady before her—the matriarch of the Xu family, Xu Ye’s mother. It was this very woman who had repeatedly refused to allow Su Mo, her sister, to meet the family under the pretense of strict family rules and lofty standards for a daughter-in-law.
The truth, of course, was far simpler and far crueler: Xu Ye himself believed his mother would never accept Su Mo, a woman from the countryside.
Su Jing knew those so-called reasons were nothing but excuses—a convenient way for Xu Ye to dodge responsibility, as he never truly intended to marry her sister. But the fact remained: this formidable matron held real power, enough to make her own son wary, and her interference was why Su Mo had been shut out from the Xu family entirely.
Anger surged in Su Jing’s chest, a burning loathing for this family that had caused so much pain.
Yet today, Su Jing was here for justice, not chaos. Her sister’s grievances were no doubt the Xu family’s to answer, and Su Jing was determined to keep things measured, just as her sister-in-law had advised.
Drawing a deep breath to steady herself, she faced Yu Fang without hesitation and stated plainly, “I am Su Mo’s younger sister, Su Jing. I’m here today to demand justice for her. What your Xu family did to my sister is something we will never forget. This matter must be settled once and for all.”
Her eyes were icy blades, fixed unflinchingly on Yu Fang. The older woman’s breath caught in her throat as she recognized Su Jing’s identity; she nearly stumbled backward until Xu Fan hurried to steady her.
“I apologize,” Xu Fan said quickly, addressing Su Jing with a forced calm. “We acknowledge the mistakes made, but your sister is gone now. Today, we plan to visit the Su family to transfer all the inheritance left by my brother Xu Ye to his three children. Miss Su Jing, please give us a chance to discuss this matter properly.”
Yu Fang regained her footing, gently pushing her son’s hand away. She straightened herself with effort and spoke quietly to Su Jing, “We are at fault for what happened to Su Mo. There’s no use in words now, but Xu Ye left behind a legacy meant for the three children. Additionally, half of the Xu family’s assets will be handed over to them. Even if they refuse to acknowledge us, they still have the right to that money.”
At this point, Yu Fang had accepted reality. She no longer had the right to demand forgiveness from those children. No amount of money could compensate for the suffering they endured. All she could do was try to make amends as best she could.
Su Jing listened coldly, offering no concessions. The inheritance was rightfully the children’s. She was just about to lead the Xu family to the Su residence when suddenly, Huang Fei burst forth, blocking their path.
“No! You cannot transfer the assets to those three children. They are not part of the Xu family! My son Xu Sheng is the true heir. You cannot take my son’s money!” Huang Fei’s voice was sharp with fury.
She could not accept this. After all these years of marriage, crushed beneath the matriarch Yu Fang’s iron hand, Huang Fei had fought tooth and nail just to get this far. Now, not only was she being cast out, but her son’s inheritance was being torn away. The hatred she felt toward those three children burned hotter than ever. She cursed herself for ever showing mercy—leaving such a calamity behind.
Su Jing watched Huang Fei with a pang of sympathy, recalling how once she had been just as wild and irrational—so reckless she scarcely cared about shame. Back then, achieving her goal was all that mattered. Now, watching Huang Fei unravel like this, she understood how truly humiliating such behavior was.
Su Jing remained silent, waiting for the Xu family to resolve their own mess.
Xu Fan’s patience had worn thin. His face flushed bright red as he glared at Huang Fei with blazing eyes. He couldn’t comprehend how she had become like this.
Compared to Su Mo—who bore three children but was never accepted—Huang Fei had been fortunate. He had lavished her with everything a wife deserved, yet she had failed to cherish it.
So Xu Fan had no regrets being ruthless. He refused to let Huang Fei ruin his future, destroy his son, and shatter his family. His selfishness outweighed any love he once claimed for her. More than love, he craved peace and control.
He signaled to two servants, who quickly restrained Huang Fei. “Inform her family to come and take her home,” Xu Fan ordered coldly. Her family had already accepted the divorce settlement—an unspoken agreement that freed him from further entanglements with Huang Fei.
As midday approached, Su Jing led the Xu family back to the Su residence.
Gu Zi ushered them into the living room and lowered her voice to Su Jing. “Since you’ve decided to talk things over properly, they’re our guests now. We must treat them with respect. Please brew some tea and prepare some snacks. Su Shen and the others should be back soon.”
