Blood Awakening: The Strongest Hybrid and His Vampire Bride

Chapter 604: Please, Take care of my sister

Chapter 604: Please, Take care of my sister

Nikolai spent hours with his friends while playing with Viktoria and the girls. Soon after the twins woke up, Alexei and Vernan ended up becoming makeshift ponies for Dhalia and Elizabeth, while Viktoria sat on Nikolai’s shoulders.

He almost couldn’t believe how tiring it could be, comparing an hour of playtime with his daughters to the constant battles inside hell. When the bell chimed for dinner, Nikita and Leona arrived and scolded Nikolai and the boys for playing such violent games.

Despite his attempts to explain, it was the girls who wanted to play war games. Not his brothers.

But she was having none of it.

Afterwards, Nikita took the babies to bed and warned him that he shouldn’t come to her room at a ridiculous time tonight.

So he enjoyed some time with Vernan, Alexei and Ryan back in the main mansion study, enjoying some real blood wine.

Creak!

Vernan sat on the sofa, his huge form causing the wood to creak, before he leaned back with an inaudible sigh, watching Nikolai, who sat at the desk, signing papers while drinking. "To think this kid managed to solve everything."

"What do you mean?" Alexei asked with a glass of pure-blooded vodka.

The bear tilted his head, looking at his newest friend, then scoffed. "Oh right, you weren’t in Londis back then, were ya?" He swilled his glass before quickly throwing his head back and downing it. Then slammed it on the table with a loud burp.

Nikolai glanced up from his documents before shaking his head.

"This kid, back then, his power was below even mine! Yet, somehow in the space of a month, he fought and fought and fought until finally he reached my former boss’s hideout. We were in a pact with the damned Nosferatu bastards, as they had our heir and future in their hands." He popped another bottle of wine open, pouring it like a savage.

"Shit, that sounds annoying." Ryan chimed in his two guns on the table, taken apart as he oiled and cleaned them. "They controlled you that much, Amora said as much, but..."

"Literally by the balls, you could say."

Alexei nodded along while glancing periodically at Nikolai, who continued working despite letting them mess around in his office. He’d known Nikolai for longer than Vernan and also understood what he meant.

"Well, I get you. When I met Nikolai, it was almost a year ago, and his strength was mediocre at best, and he lacked any technique."

"W-What, really?!"

Ryan couldn’t help but shout, because a year ago, he’d been fighting with Nikolai and thought he was amazing. Even the difficult Bryan became friends with him. "That reminds me... Nikolai! I have something to ask."

Nikolai scribbled the last correction on the document before glancing up at Ryan. He rubbed his nose and forehead before speaking. "What’s wrong?"

"Do you remember Bryan and his wife?"

He nodded.

’How could I forget?’

Bryan was someone Nikolai bonded with early, a simple but honest guy who helped him meet Alexei, and even during the previous city-wide gate incident, fought side by side with him, Ryan and the others.

"Oh, I know Bryan, the big guy with a small brain?" Alexei nodded with an intoxicated smile."

"Yeah, but go on, Ryan. What did you have to say?"

"Ah, sorry. Bryan asked me if I could contact you, since he’s looking for work now, since our group disbanded, and the SSS is much stricter with hiring people."

Nikolai pressed his lips together, a habit when he became lost in thought. He wondered, would Bryan make a good fit for the Volkov clan, or rather, he seemed more suitable for his father-in-law, Dimitri’s Fenrir clan.

"I don’t know if he’d suit the Volkov clan, but maybe you can speak with Dimitri. I’ll have a word with my dad and get him to consider a meeting."

Thanks to Sasha and Anastasia’s scientific prowess, the blood of Nikolai and Marianne could help humans adapt and evolve. The more blood given, the more they transformed.

Nikolai didn’t hate humans, nor did he want to turn them all into monsters.

Nevertheless, if they wished to join him or his family group, he would make them take a certain amount of monster blood, which would lower the chance of betrayal.

"Alright, that’s fine by me."

Ryan didn’t mind either way; he just wanted to fulfil his last duties as their leader, with the death of Adam in the previous gate incidents and Lisa joining Nikolai as Risa. He couldn’t justify summoning their team after the ghoul incident.

Not that Nikolai would mind.

’There we go.’

Nikolai, on the other hand, tossed his pen to the side before grabbing his glass and placing a huge ball of ice inside it, then taking his special blood bourbon from the bottom locked drawer and pouring a nice serving.

He leaned back, placing both feet on the huge wooden desk, while looking at his friends chatting away. Today might have been one of the best days for him in a long time; he finished his work and also enjoyed a relaxing day with his daughters.

’Selene is still in the medical ward with Leonid, but I can’t sleep there...’

Just like when Nikita stayed in the no-contamination zone for almost a week with the girls, now it was Selene’s turn. All to avoid any sickness or issues with the first few hybrids born into this world naturally.

Thanks to Nikita, the doctors and Sasha came back with a great deal of information for his future children. However, to be safe, he and Selene both agreed to do the same again, so that their child could help complete their research.

Sasha gave a rough estimate of when their research would be complete, and this would no longer be needed.

Thus, he mused to himself.

’By the time Kumiko and her two clones give birth...’

Nikolai shook his head. Those girls were more than clones now, each with their own life and personality. It was something beyond his understanding to infuse life into a clone just by sacrificing a tail.

’Apparently, the Kogetsu clan adopted Reina and Miyu as Kumiko’s sisters, and they will also give birth on the same day.’

Too many things happened over the past few weeks, causing Nikolai’s work and stress to build to the limit. He originally wanted to enjoy dating his wives without issue, but now it seemed life had other plans.

He couldn’t help but think of Sarah, who began training with Leona and the maids. It seemed she planned to become a Knight, surpassing status as a squire, to become worthy of Nikolai’s bride.

’I never expected her to do that though...’

If he were so strict, he wouldn’t have accepted Leona, a woman who lacked blood purity and status from the start.

Through meeting her, he realised just how much the squires, knights and maids did for the Volkov clan for the past several centuries. So once they proved their loyalty and abilities, he would grant them his blood, boosting their blood purity and powers.

He couldn’t help but think of the maids who supported him in the south sector.

Cleopatra and the Epsilon maid unit.

Nikolai’s lips curled into a smile, thinking of their battle results. He’d read the reports from Cleo, Vladimir and Pierre, the blood knight serving Vlad, about how they fought a tyrant without losing a single member.

’It also seems that Cleo has a crush on Pierre... this is just something Leona told me the other day, maybe I should consider marriage ties between the staff, servants and maids with other clans?’

He didn’t mind since the Epsilon maid unit only stood in for Leona’s, who were on leave to protect the mansion and his many wives’ right now.

"What’s that smirk for, boss?" Vernan leaned forward, his shirt almost tearing from the pressure of his huge chest.

Nikolai snapped out of his thoughts, turning to the big bear with a shrug. "Just thinking about how I should make you earn the money for that wine you’re guzzling down like juice."

"Heh, heh. Don’t be so petty, boss."

"You do know that costs, 10k a bottle, right?"

"W-What?"

Although ten thousand dollars wasn’t a huge amount, a single bottle that cost that much caused the big bear to savour each sip suddenly.

"Haha, idiot." Alexei, who knew the truth beside him, couldn’t help but chuckle, winking at Nikolai before returning to teaching Ryan a theoretical lesson on close combat.

.

.

.

The time came close to midnight, Vernan lay with his back hanging off the sofa, snoring with a bubble from his nose, Alexei left to call his wife and never returned an hour ago, and Ryan stood beside Nikolai on the balcony overlooking the entire Volkov estate.

"What’s the matter, Ryan?" Nikolai asked while watching the scenery with a faint smile.

"I know you already promised, but... please. Take care of my sister."

Ryan trusted Nikolai; he adored him.

However, Clara was special to him. A brother always feels this towards their first little sister. Whether they cry, get hurt, or suffer in silence. These things eat away at them until they can’t help but explode, wanting to destroy everything that caused such things.

The first time he slept with Clara, Nikolai saw this outburst when Ryan punched him and was determined to kill him.

"Don’t worry, I will protect her with my life."

Clara wasn’t human, but as a fairy, she was different. He almost felt that her existence carried some relation to Sasha and the experiments she performed back in that forsaken laboratory in the north.

’But I won’t tell Ryan, at least until I am sure.’

The fairy pool, which Zara mentioned in passing, seemed irrelevant at first, but now, knowing that Clara’s power could go berserk at any moment, it no longer seemed irrelevant. If this happened in the Volkov Estate, during another wave of attacks, or a gate outbreak, losing their powers would lead to a devastating outcome.

"Thanks, I know I can trust you."

Ryan held out his fist, his eyes hazy and clearly drunk.

"I’ll accept and honour that trust, brother."

Thud!

Two fists met in the middle of the night, one big, one small, a simple oath between brothers, friends.

And after tomorrow, Nikolai would step into another world.
