Blood Awakening: The Strongest Hybrid and His Vampire Bride

Chapter 686: Oh Come On..!

Chapter 686: Oh Come On..!

The amber light flickered as wax seeped down the shrinking candles. Nikolai cut through his main, while enjoying the gentle ambient melody playing in the background, which alternated between bright, romantic tones and a gripping timbre.

’There’s sauce on her lips...’

Nikolai glanced up from his plate, steadily ruminating on the previous courses.

He could only describe the start with the words soft warmth. A rich, steamy truffle-infused mushroom velouté with a light cream foam. It was earthy, with a savoury buttery taste that lined the inside of his cheeks.

While chewing the herb-crusted lamb, a slightly hesitant Nikita asked a question.

"...are you enjoying it?"

His eyes raised, noticing his wife breaking manners as she leaned on her elbows and stared at him with brilliant eyes. She watched him eating quietly with her lips curved into a broad smile.

’Ugh...’

He quickly crushed the succulent meat and swallowed it with a slight gulp as the tart red wine jus and roasted garlic lingered on the tip of his tongue.

"It’s the best meal I’ve had in a long, long time."

"Ehehe, I see."

Her legs swung beneath the small table, gently tapping against his shins with the soft padding on her feet.

’She removed her shoes?’

"I really liked the fish, it was so delicious~"

Nikita stretched, the smear of butter on her lips spreading to create a glossy sheen.

"But the main course was so delicious and meaty." Her feet playfully slipped up his legs and stroked circles between his knees. "Don’t you agree, honey?" She pried apart his legs, pressing her feet against his muscles.

"Well, maybe it’s thanks to the company, but you’re right. It’s extremely delicious."

"Ah?!"

He slipped his hands under the table, grasping both of her little ankles before she could react.

"What are these?"

Nikita’s eyes flickered as she turned away, acting innocent.

"W-What do you mean~ I don’t understand."

She pulled away with both legs, but failed to break free. Her face quickly scrunched up while distorting her plump lips. "Let go of me~"

He stroked the surface of her foot, enjoying how silky smooth it felt. Though he hated feet in general, he showed slightly more tolerance toward his wife’s. "Will you behave if I do?" His fingers stroked circles along the soles of her tiny feet.

"Hyaaa~ don’t it’s ticklish... Nikolai, please, they’re going to come in soon!"

Nikita’s playful atmosphere collapsed instantly.

She stopped trying to tease him with her feet and began desperately pulling away from his grasp.

Nikolai chuckled. He found it quite cute that she suddenly became nervous.

The way her blush started on her cheeks and slowly spread to the tips of her ears and even her chest. Nikita’s lips pressed together tightly, turning a pale pink colour as she attempted to threaten him by glaring.

"Nikolai!"

"Heh, what do I get if I let go now?" His ears tingled with the sound of approaching feet. It was time for their palate cleanser before dessert.

"D-Don’t joke around...I’m serious!"

Her eyes widened as she kept glancing back at the door, her ears likely picking up the footsteps drawing near. She yanked her left leg back at the same time as pushing into Nikolai’s stomach with her left.

’Well, let’s end it here for now.’

He relaxed his grip on her right foot, not wanting to ruin the evening.

There was a method to everything.

The sudden loss of pressure allowed her to break free.

"Hehe!"

Of course, Nikita broke into a strange laugh once her right leg became free. Much to his shock, it seemed that despite her left leg remaining in his grasp, Nikita was too happy with her victory to care.

’Hmmmm?’

All of a sudden, there was a strange surge of multiple footsteps in the hallway, followed by what seemed to be some scuffling.

’Is there an issue with the staff?’

"Ahhh!?"

The next moment, he caught the faint yelp of the female staff member, before a thud and sudden pop.

His eyes sharpened while glancing towards the noise.

They would likely reach their room if they continued for a few minutes.

’Damn it!’

He slowly slipped his palm from Nikita’s foot and grasped the smooth metal grip hidden inside his coat jacket.

"Five... at least six."

"Nikolai, what are we going to do?" Nikita’s face twisted, becoming vicious as she grabbed the simple steak knife in a reverse grip.

"Be calm, don’t rush and follow my lead."

"Mm."

She nodded without causing trouble.

He couldn’t help but feel nostalgic, because it used to be him following her lead when things like this happened.

The footsteps approached.

Tap, Tap, Tap.

Their cosy, romantic night appeared to have reached an impasse.

His fingertips grasped the rough grip of his Desert Eagle; the hesitation he once felt when wielding this weapon had long since vanished. He quietly counted down as the six people approached their room’s doors.

Two people stood on either side, while another person approached the door with the cart, likely trying to catch them off guard by imitating the hosts.

"Come here."

Nikolai suddenly grabbed Nikita’s hand and squeezed it tightly.

"Eh?"

He yanked her over the table, her body visibly floating for several seconds before landing carefully on his lap. Nikolai quickly removed his outer jacket, then wrapped it around her shoulders.

"Ahh... the inside is all hard!?" She complained. In fact, the wine-red velvet wasn’t actually a soft material but part of the suit’s bulletproofing.

"Don’t complain, keep still and wait until I tell you to move."

Her big golden eyes stared up at him while shaking slightly; only a fool couldn’t understand why he did such a thing. She lowered her face and hugged his stomach, squeezing her body against his so tightly that the jacket would protect both of them.

’Thanks, Nikita.’

Immediately after, the door sounded with a low knock.

This was the same style the hosts used, with the key slowly turning and whoever was on the other side opening it.

Nikolai’s pupils dilated as black blood pumped into his eyes, ears, and nose, enhancing all his senses to the limit.

The world seemed to slow to half speed.

Nikita’s thunderous heart pounded much slower.

He could hear the movement of his blood, which gushed through his veins.

A distant thump echoed as the figure behind the door appeared.

Pale skin.

Green veins.

Mismatched body parts.

Their eyes matched as the Nosferatu goon curled his lips into a disgusting smirk.

"He’s he—!"

Bang!

Nikolai didn’t wait for him to finish speaking.

He yanked his right arm from beneath Nikita’s ass and fired twice, blowing the zombie’s brains out. The next moment, his hand shifted to the right, shooing again, as the world returned to normal speed.

"FUCK!?"

"He’s shooting—arrgh!"

’Second down.’

Nikolai unloaded the remainder of his magazine into both sides of the wall.

Dust, debris, and mess fluttered in the air as he glared at the massive holes in the wall, his eyes shimmering.

"You Volkov Bitch!"

"Die!"

Two of the surviving zombies pulled out their semi-automatic machine guns and unleashed a burst of shots at Nikolai’s position.

Thud!

He kicked the table towards them, blocking the shots.

Though normal bullets might penetrate the thick wood quite easily, silver bullets carried a fatal flaw. To preserve the medicinal effects of the silver mixture, they were forced to change the bullets’ texture, resulting in a softer metal.

Shhiiing!

Two bullets ricocheted past his face, slicing and tearing the flesh of his cheek apart.

Deng! Deng!

Nikolai didn’t flinch as he held down Nikita’s struggling head. He maintained sight on the zombies and blew their heads off with the custom Volkov Silver bullet, which carried the sole purpose of killing zombies.

"NIKOLAI! LET ME UP!"

"Stop, be a good girl, and I’ll give you a reward!"

Pah!

He slapped her exposed butt, forcing it back beneath his long jacket.

One by one, the six attackers fell, leaving small bullet wounds on Nikolai’s right shoulder, cheek and just below his eye, where shrapnel tore apart the flesh, forming a crescent-shaped mark.

Once the final zombie fell, there was a long silence.

Nikolai released his magazine, slowly snapping the replacement inside with a single hand, then clicked the safety back off and cocked the barrel with his teeth.

"Phew, is it over?" Nikita asked.

"Oh, Nikita..."

She’d uttered the one sentence you should never speak when facing such a situation...

As if on queue, dozens of footsteps rushed through the building, with dozens of pops echoing amongst the human screams.

Though the soundproofing worked for humans, sadly, when he stopped limiting his werewolf and vampire senses, he could even hear the people in the main hall chewing meat.

Let alone the sound of guns tearing them to pieces.

"Nikolai, let me out!"

Suddenly, her strength exploded as she pushed out of the coat.

The fluffy white hair in a neat lob became a mess as it grew longer; her teeth sharpened; her muscles became more defined; and her face, slightly fierce with small creases above her nose, was replaced by two huge, fluffy ears.

She leapt out of his grasp and grabbed his shoulders.

Then, after glaring at him for a few moments, she pressed their lips together aggressively.

"Y-You...?!"

"Hmph... tastes like that damn wine, peh... so nasty!"

His lips curled into a smirk.

"So you didn’t like this fancy food, why pretend to then?"

Her eyes rolled as she slipped off his lap, pulling a long bat from nowhere, "Are you stupid? I forced myself because you looked so happy!"

Nikolai’s chest thumped with a sudden palpitation as he watched her slowly bend and contort her body, like an extreme yoga instructor.

He didn’t have anything smart to say as he brushed a finger along his lips.

"Thanks."

"Yeah, let’s go out and beat these bastards down, and I’ll let you eat something good."

"Oh? What might that be?" He asked while standing, wrapping the jacket back around his shoulders.

"What do you think?" She grinned, her sharp fangs glinting as she bent forward to glimpse outside the door. After a moment, she peeked back, lifting her tail in the air as she hummed delightfully.

"I’ll let you eat my ass."
