Chapter 662: Father And Son Talk-3
Chapter 662: Father And Son Talk-3
Asher’s thoughts paused as he heard Azaron’s question; he broke eye contact with Azaron, his eyes falling on the drink in his hand as he stayed silent for a moment. Azaron did not rush him, he simply continued to stare at Asher with a patient expression, his gaze steady and expectant of an answer.
After a short moment, Asher spoke, "To be honest and truthful, I was a bit scared and being a bit careful," he began to speak truthfully, choosing his words carefully. "After the Emperor tried to manipulate my mind, I couldn’t help but overthink how far his mind manipulation must have gone, how many households are under his command without anyone knowing," he paused for a moment before he continued, "I couldn’t help but imagine him also controlling you without anyone knowing."
He raised his gaze, meeting Azaron’s golden eyes with his purple ones, "If I had come and told you that I was almost mentally manipulated by the Emperor, and you were already one of his puppets, I guessed I would be killed on the spot to keep the secret," he stated in finality, his voice calm yet firm.
Azaron stayed silent for a moment, then nodded in understanding, as Asher’s thoughts and caution were entirely valid, his reasoning neither irrational nor unfounded.
"You know, on the day you were born, on her dying bed, I made your mother a promise to protect you with everything I had," Azaron rose from his seat as he walked toward the window behind him, his steps measured. He gazed at the ever-expanding territory before him, his expression turning distant, "but I’ve failed her way too many times, I simply overlooked a lot of things because I wanted my children to understand the harshness of the world," he paused for a moment, his voice lowering slightly.
He turned to Asher as he spoke, "I didn’t even stop the bullying you faced, even the words the maids and butlers whispered in secret when you failed your awakening, I did nothing about any of that," he continued, his tone steady yet laced with quiet regret. "And now, even after the Emperor tried to manipulate you, I still couldn’t kill the one behind it," he paused again, then added, "I’ve failed as a father, Youngest,"
He walked toward Asher, stopping before him; he placed a hand on Asher’s shoulder as he spoke, "But I won’t again, never again." He met Asher’s gaze with a softened expression as he spoke, "Next time, whenever you are threatened in any way, be it through words, even in your dreams, just tell me, and I will be there, Youngest,"
A small smile appeared on Azaron’s lips as he spoke, "So, be at ease and stop overthinking things, I’m always here to hold the sky if it falls, leave opponents who are out of your league to me and your brother, just continue to train," he placed a hand on Asher’s purple hair and ruffled it gently.
Asher sat without moving, he did not know how to react, he did not know what to say; he had never had a family, he had never had parents, such actions were new to him, unfamiliar and overwhelming in their sincerity. He was simply clueless, so he sat like a statue made of stone, unmoving. He could feel and hear the sincerity behind every word Azaron had spoken; every motion and action was serious, and Asher was certain the man meant every word.
Seeing Asher sit in silence, Azaron’s smile only widened, like that of a proud father, as he walked away, returning to his own seat as he spoke, "I’m sure you are in a hurry to get a few things done and rush back to the Star Academy because of your incomplete mission, you may leave, Youngest," Azaron stated as he sank into his seat once more.
Asher nodded, still stunned; he stood and walked toward the door without a word. As he was about to open it, he paused and turned to Azaron as he spoke, "Thank you for today, Father," he paused for a moment, then added, "and regarding our battle, you might not have to wait two decades," a smile appearing on his lips as he opened the door and added in a fading tone, "I will visit again," the door shutting behind him, leaving only Azaron within.
Azaron sat calmly with a smile on his face; he could not help but shake his head at the sheer ridiculousness of the Youngest, his thoughts running through every battle scene Asher had shown him, each one replaying vividly in his mind.
’It seems another one is going to contend for the battle of the strongest Wargrave,’ he mused to himself, ’I won’t be defeated by children,’ he closed his eyes as his mind replayed Asher’s battle with Debro, his thoughts lingering particularly on the Rapier Technique Asher had created.𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
’Lily, it seems he has surpassed even your expectations... only if you were here to see it, after all, it was your own wish and dream,’ Azaron thought to himself as he knew Lily had always wanted one of her children to awaken the rapier as their soul-bound weapon.
’It’s almost time for the worldwide competition, in a few months, all Empires will know the kind of monster the Youngest is,’ Azaron’s thoughts shifted, ’and with that, they will all move for his head, after all, they are all angry that they allowed Malrik to grow to this level,’ he mused to himself, his expression gradually hardening.
Malrik was not just famous within the Zarethorn Empire, he was famous in every single Empire; after all, nobody had ever matched his recorded feats, only Azaron, his own father, had come close.
’The Youngest will be needing protection in the months to come... specifically after the competition,’ Azaron thought, ’I don’t mind erasing a few bloodlines anyway,’ his eyes opened as he remained entirely unconcerned if every Empire decided to send assassins or anything else toward his youngest son.
A smirk appeared on his lips as he could not help but imagine every Empire’s expression when that time came.
Soon, a knock resounded within the room; he did not speak, the door opened as Zarek stepped in. Bowing, he spoke, "An Imperial decree has arrived,"
Hearing Zarek’s words, the happiness he felt almost vanished; he wanted to order Zarek to burn it immediately, but after a moment of thought, he decided against it. He would find out what that foolish Emperor wanted later.
"That can wait, I need to update you on something," Azaron spoke, ready to start bragging with the information he had just received from Asher, and also, since he possessed the Light affinity as well, he could create illusions just like Asher.
And just like that, another round of bragging began.
