Chapter 746: Modern Entertainment
Chapter 746: Modern Entertainment
Asher, FatelessPen, and the rest of the students arrived at the topmost floor of the Gentle Hotel Skyscraper. Each floor possessed fifty rooms each, and the Hotel Manager led the students around as everyone selected their own room. Asher, William, Ryaen, Vaelric, and the rest of the top rankers from each school year stayed on the top floor, while those of lower rankings could only go to the floor below.
Even on this trip to another Empire, the Star Academy still treated students of higher ranking with greater privileges, although both floors basically possessed the same rooms and luxuries.
But before everyone disappeared into their rooms, FatelessPen made a few announcements.
Staring at the students he had been tasked with escorting and guarding, FatelessPen spoke, "Although we don’t know how long we will be staying within the Thalvorn Empire, we should be receiving news in two or three days about our itinerary here, and also, you are free to explore and go wherever you wish, you can even head to the Inner Rings if you want," his words instructive and calm. "Do well not to cause any trouble, but also tolerate nothing from anybody," he stated in finality.
He turned his head toward the Hotel Manager, nodded at the man, then turned and walked away as he headed toward his own room, which was also situated on the top floor.
The students immediately dispersed toward their various rooms, everyone eager to see what technology the Hotel Manager had talked and boasted about, though most of them barely understood anything concerning technology itself.
Asher walked toward his own room, placing the hotel key card against the door handle. It beeped softly as a mechanical voice echoed outward.
"Welcome to the Gentle Hotel."
Asher ignored it and stepped into his room. The walls were painted pristine white, Asher walked further inward, his eyes calmly observing everything around him. The room itself was enormous, spacious enough that more than a hundred people could comfortably sleep within it without issue. His gaze tracked every detail within the room, and almost every single piece of technology back on Earth was present here. Side tables, beautifully crafted modern-day bedstands, elegant table lamps, polished flooring, decorative furnishings, and numerous familiar devices all filled the luxurious suite.
A gigantic curtain stretched across one side of the room. Asher’s eyes shifted toward a touchscreen control system embedded directly into the wall. Pressing it lightly, the control system beeped before the curtains immediately parted, revealing a massive glass wall beyond.
Asher walked forward and stopped a meter away from the glass. From his current position, he could see the Zero Rings from the highest point of the Gentle Hotel.
The sky had already darkened, and the moon hung gently above the Thalvorn Empire, bathing the entire city beneath in a serene silver glow. Although they had arrived during the afternoon, it had taken them several hours to move from the Outer Rings all the way to the Zero Rings despite travelling at speeds only higher-ranked Life Rankers could achieve, which spoke volumes about how incomprehensibly vast and expansive the Thalvorn Empire truly was.
Even though it was nighttime, everywhere remained brilliantly illuminated. Every single skyscraper and high-rise building glowed with dazzling lights, while countless lampposts stretched endlessly across the streets below. The atmosphere carried an almost futuristic feeling, as though Asher were gazing upon Shanghai City at night back on Earth. Far below, vehicles zoomed through the roads in streams of motion while wealthy Young Masters walked arrogantly through the streets with guards following closely behind them.
The sight naturally gave off a sense of security, as though absolutely nothing could ever go wrong within the Thalvorn Empire. But Asher understood better than most that such things only existed upon the surface. A competent Government always knew how to make its citizens feel safe while hiding the uglier truths away from the public eye.
He shook his head slightly before turning away from the glass, his eyes landing upon a massive one hundred and twenty-inch television hanging elegantly upon the wall. Beneath it rested a smaller table, and upon that table sat a gaming console with multiple gaming pads alongside neatly arranged sets of games.
The moment Asher saw it, a wave of nostalgia immediately struck him. He had been within this world for two whole years, and after all that time, he was finally seeing a television again.
Without hesitation, he walked toward it, picked up the remote, and began going through everything available. Just like Earth’s modern smart televisions, this one also came installed with various apps and entertainment systems.
Initially, Asher had intended to merely admire the room before leaving the Gentle Hotel alongside his friends to explore the city and go shopping. But now, with the presence of movies, games, and familiar entertainment before him, shopping and exploration could wait until another time.
Asher immediately sat upon the bed, pressed a button on the remote, selected a movie app, and started a random movie.
Yes, there were people whose profession involved acting within the world of Crymora. But such things could likely only exist uniquely within the Thalvorn Empire due to their overwhelming technological advancements.
Although being an actor might initially sound foolish in a world where supernatural powers existed, one had to remember that not everybody within Crymora was awakened. Normal people still existed within this world, and naturally, they could only pursue normal professions and lifestyles just like ordinary humans back on Earth. Acting was merely one of those professions. Asher didn’t even need to think deeply to realize that this profession and entertainment market was most likely concentrated heavily within the Outer Rings.
And although some might wonder who would even bother watching action movies or fictional entertainment when real superpowers literally existed within reality itself, the answer was actually simple; the countless non-awakeners scattered across each Empire.
One had to understand that non-awakeners weren’t merely a few thousand or even a few million in number. No, with populations exceeding over twenty billion citizens within each Empire, the number of people who failed their awakenings reached into the hundreds of millions. With such staggering numbers, industries such as movies, gaming, entertainment, streaming, and countless others were naturally destined to generate unimaginable amounts of platinum coins.
Asher didn’t move from his position. He didn’t head toward the bathroom, nor did he bother checking the living room section of the suite. His purple eyes remained fixed upon the television screen while he casually took out a meal from his space ring and began eating while watching.
Ever since reincarnating within Crymora, one of Asher’s simplest yet deepest desires had always been the ability to casually eat while watching movies or YouTube, and finally, after two years, that small wish was essentially being fulfilled.
As soon as one movie ended, Asher immediately switched to another. From ordinary movies, he transitioned toward seasonal films and various genres. Hours passed by as he continued binge-watching one movie after another without stopping.
Eventually, after spending several hours watching films endlessly, Asher shifted toward another activity entirely; gaming.
With a simple wave of his hand, one of the gaming pads appeared within his grasp. With that, he began playing several offline games before eventually transitioning toward online gaming where he played against citizens from the Thalvorn Empire itself.
And needless to say, Asher lost horribly against them.
But did he care? Absolutely not.
At this moment, he wasn’t Asher the Awakener, nor Asher the genius student of Star Academy. He was simply someone enjoying himself after years without modern entertainment.
Time flowed by almost unnoticed, and before he realized it, it was already three o’clock in the morning. Asher had spent nearly the entire night gaming and watching movies without pause.
After a while, Asher finally rose to his feet. Since he had already satisfied his urge for gaming and entertainment, he finally decided to check out the other parts of the luxurious room.
