Chapter 631 Called to a Different Place
Chapter 631 Called to a Different Place
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
As soon as the magic circle lit up under Shinji’s feet, he felt the strange pull of teleportation. It was like being yanked through space. He stayed alert, shifting his focus the moment everything around him vanished in a flash of light.
When his sight returned, he was in a completely different place.
What should have been a calm town by the sea was now a dark cave made of stone walls. It was so dim that he couldn’t tell if it was day or night.
Coral, who had been walking in front of him, was gone.
In her place stood a woman he didn’t know. Her long, light-purple hair fell down to her waist. She wore a black tunic and a hooded robe. Her wide eyes stared at Shinji, full of surprise.
”W-What…!? I summoned someone!?”
The woman stepped back, her tall boots scraping against the stone. Her face turned pale, and she clearly looked shaken. It didn’t seem fake. Sensing no one else nearby, Shinji kept quiet and watched her carefully.
Her robe was dirty and stained with blood. The blade of her naginata had signs of recent fighting. She didn’t seem bothered by it. From that alone, Shinji could tell—this woman was used to battle.
Even though her body was slim, her strong shape showed under her robe. Her skin looked pale and tired, but her face was still beautiful.
From the way she reacted, it was easy to guess she had summoned him here. Even if she looked pretty, Shinji had no reason to smile at someone who might be an enemy. His sharp gaze didn’t waver.
But he said nothing. He wanted to see what she would do or say before giving anything away. Why did she summon him? How did she even do it? The questions kept coming.
”I-I’m so sorry! I’ll explain everything… Just please, I need your help right now!!”
She still looked pale, but her eyes were steady. Her serious tone made it clear—something urgent was happening. But that wasn’t enough for Shinji to agree.
His answer should have been no.
But for some reason, something inside him whispered that he had to help her. Before he knew it, he nodded.
”They’re coming!!”
Before she could even shout, Shinji felt people approaching. He moved quickly.
Right now, his bond with the spirit he had contracted was gone. He had to rely on his own strength. It wasn’t the first time this had happened. He had been summoned to strange places before.
Even so, Shinji never skipped a backup plan.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a seed. It was a special one—made by Freri, his spirit partner. It held their shared magic. Because Shinji had learned <World Gate> magic, he could send this seed back to their home world, leaving a trail for her to follow.
”Come, Freri.”
As the seed vanished from his hand, he felt her presence again. Their bond was restored. Now, he could use magic freely. Freri appeared behind him and hugged him, clearly relieved to see he wasn’t hurt.
’Shinji!’
”I’ll explain later. We need to fight first.”
’Okay! I’m ready!’
”Amazing…”
The woman who summoned him didn’t realize Freri was a spirit. But she could feel her strong magic. It made her both scared and hopeful. If Shinji had a partner this strong, maybe they could win. Her eyes showed respect.
Then the enemies appeared.
A group of armed people came out from a tunnel. They wore white robes that covered every inch of their skin. Their heads were hidden under pointy bags with eye holes. Their eyes were glowing with madness.
”I found you, heretics!!”
”So you brought friends? Good! We’ll offer them to our god!!!”
Shinji frowned.
(No talking our way out of this, huh…)
The men rushed forward, screaming. They looked wild and crazed. Shinji saw them for what they were—dangerous. He didn’t hesitate to act.
’They’re the enemy. Stop them.’
’Got it.’
Freri stepped in front of him. She held out both hands. Magic circles floated over her palms. Small, seed-shaped bullets flew out fast, hitting the enemies in their legs. Dozens rained down.
”Gyaah!?”
’Rapid fire… now trap them.’
The shots tore through the robes, wounding the men so badly they couldn’t stand. They didn’t dodge. They didn’t block. They just fell.
Still, they kept trying to fight. Even while crawling, they threw weapons. But Freri’s seeds sprouted vines that wrapped around their legs, pulling them tight.
Their weapons didn’t even reach Shinji. He blocked them all with magic.
It was a one-sided fight.
Even after they lost, the men shouted loudly. So Freri spread a sleep powder in the air. One by one, they dropped, and the cave grew quiet.
They wanted to ask questions, but the strange way the men acted made it clear—there was no point in talking. Still, if this happened again, they would need to know why. After the fight ended, Shinji’s strange feeling of duty faded. Now, he felt ready to listen.
He and Freri turned back toward the woman.
She stepped forward quietly, then bowed low. Her movements were graceful. From that alone, Shinji guessed she served someone important.
But what she said next caught him off guard.
”I was so rude, but thank you for helping us. I’m truly grateful. You and the goddess saved us…”
”Goddess…? Does that mean you’re also—”
”Yes. I’m sorry I didn’t say earlier. My name is Luluaane. I serve as the goddess’s apostle.”
Shinji stared at her face as she looked up and smiled.
