While the people of the royal capital suffered the most gruesome fates, they were not beings Shinji needed to consider, so their abandonment was a pitiful necessity.
Regardless, time passed, and the maximum combat power the Resistance Liberators could gather assembled at the temporary base. Using the World Gate² magic Shinji provided, the group launched their incursion into the capital of the hated Sect Theocracy³.
”Ngh! So this is the capital!” one soldier said.
”Everyone! Move exactly as planned! We will annihilate the monsters infesting the town and seize control of the capital!” the commander shouted.
”Yeah!!” the crowd roared.
The exit of the gate was set in a large plaza built in the center of the capital. Though startled by their first experience with teleportation magic, those who stepped through quickly regained their composure and ran off in all directions as discussed.
Meanwhile, Shinji and the Resistance executives—Luluane, Tiana, and Tiona—faced the most magnificent and conspicuous building in the city: the royal castle.
Shinji had heard from Lechary that the altar marked for destruction was located in the throne room of the castle. He had shared this information with the women via Goddess Padra to formulate their strategy.
Seizing the castle also aligned with the interests of the Resistance, who wished to occupy it. By destroying the altar, seizing the proof of the country’s ruler, and declaring the downfall of the royal family, they intended to bring an end to this conflict.
”Shinji-san, we should also—wha?!” Luluane started.
”Oh my. To think you’d come so suddenly, hmm?” a woman’s voice said from above.
Drawn by the voice descending from above, the group looked up. Without knowing when she had appeared, they saw the beautiful succubus, Lechary, looking exactly as she did in the projected images in the sky.
The men of the Resistance who laid eyes on her—she who could charm men just by being there—were all instantly captivated without exception. Her body was far too provocative for her outfit, which consisted only of small coverings over her nipples and private parts. Had she not been flying out of reach, several of them likely would have rushed forward to pounce on her.
Even Luluane and the other women could not hide their shock at the sight of the succubus in such an extreme state of dress. They found it hard to believe she stood there so boldly, chest out, in an outfit that was effectively full-blown public indecency.
”Ah…” someone gasped.
”My, you’re quite motivated, aren’t you?” Lechary said.
”Please stay calm. Do exactly as we planned,” Shinji said.
A gentle fragrance wafted through the nostrils of the agitated group. They realized it was Shinji’s magic, which had the effect of clearing their clouded thoughts.
”Forgive me! We leave the rest to you!” a soldier shouted.
”Lord Apostle! Good luck in battle!” another added.
The Resistance members turned their backs to the grinning succubus, Lechary, and began running toward the castle. Tiana and Tiona followed, but Luluane remained unable to move.
Shinji could not fly. That much was clear from the fact that he had been carried by a spirit when they moved earlier. Luluane had decided to leave the demon to Shinji, but she hadn’t expected the enemy to appear so soon, and in flight from the start.
She wondered if it might be better for her to fight alongside him, at least until he could take some kind of countermeasure. That thought crossed her mind, keeping her rooted to the spot.
”Luluane-san, go quickly. I’ll be fine,” Shinji said.
”But, Shinji-san…!” Luluane replied.
”Come now, surely you didn’t think I hadn’t prepared for the possibility of a demon being able to fly?” Shinji asked.
The magical power of Shinji, who held the Divine Staff Aria⁴, began to surge. At the same time, Freri appeared, and both were enveloped in the same pale light. The sight was remarkably similar to the Beast Equip⁵ that Luluane knew well, and she caught her breath at the possibility.
She did not know that Shinji, through magical rituals, had a way to not only teach magic but to learn it from others. He had extracted the essentials of the Beast Equip magic from his beloved disciples and refined it into a spell to merge with a spirit, elevating it into Spirit Equip⁶. Thus, she mistakenly assumed he had played his ultimate trump card.
”Spirit Equip,” Shinji muttered.
Freri’s body turned into green particles and was absorbed into Shinji. Having achieved a temporary fusion, his appearance changed under Freri’s influence.
His black hair turned a pale green like Freri’s. His succubus lineage manifested in horns and a pair of wings; because they were formed of magic, he looked more like a demon than an apostle of a goddess.
However, more than the appearance, his internal state changed—the amount of magic he wore became immense. By merging with Freri, Shinji’s magic capacity had transformed into that of a High-ranking Spirit⁷.
On top of that, he was clad in the divine power of the Goddess from the Divine Staff Aria. The demon who projected images in the sky had been beyond Luluane’s comprehension, but she felt in her soul that Shinji had now stepped into that same realm.
”I told you I would draw the attention, no matter what happens,” Shinji said.
”…Yes. I will fulfill my role as well…!” Luluane replied.
”Yes, I’m counting on you,” Shinji said.
With Shinji not taking his eyes off Lechary for even a second, Luluane felt she couldn’t afford to fail after entrusting her back to a comrade wielding such power. She set off running with determination.
”Oh, I won’t let you escape—ugh?!” Lechary cried.
”You think I’ll let you lift a finger?” Shinji asked.
In an instant, Shinji closed the distance to Lechary as she tried to move after Luluane. By fusing with Freri, he had gained the means to soar through the sky. A groan of pain escaped the demon’s lips as she hurriedly parried the staff he swung.
(Even a second faster! I have to destroy the altar!) Luluane thought.
Luluane chased after the backs of the disciples who had gone ahead to the castle. Neither she, nor the disciples, nor the Resistance noticed.
’Now then, Jin-kun♡ Let’s have a chat while we play-fight with Mama♡ First, tell me about when you returned to Jin-kun’s world!’ Lechary said through telepathy.
’I’ve become one with Shinji. …This magic might be good♡’ Freri said.
’Right! Tell me about that too! Mama didn’t hear anything about you being able to combine with Freri-chan!’ Lechary exclaimed.
’Alright, alright… I’ll tell you everything in order, so just make sure the acting is convincing… Mama. It’s a new magic. Freri, make sure you don’t lose control…’ Shinji said.
Shinji, Lechary, and Freri, while appearing to clash, were carrying out this exchange through their thoughts.
