Cursed Immortality

Chapter 1244: Riding for a Fall! (3)

At that moment, inside the Myth of Reverend’s chamber, numerous notifications suddenly appeared before him as the Vanguard Fleet began to mobilize, the Myth of Inferno, the Myth of Thunder, and all forces were preparing to enter Sagittarius.

The Myth of Reverend quietly observed the reports before chuckling softly, a chuckle devoid of amusement.

“Cursed One…” His eyes narrowed. “No matter whether you’re a monster, a chosen one, a pawn, or something even stranger…”

The smile on his face slowly widened, “You’ve already ridden too far.”

Outside the flagship, thousands upon thousands of warships began moving simultaneously like an endless metallic tide.

The blockade surrounding Sagittarius Continent slowly opened, and the first fleet finally began advancing toward the veil of death. Unaware that somewhere beyond that mist, death itself was already waiting for them!

The Great Cosmic Continent of Sagittarius, the Undead Skyfall Canyons’ core region.

After the confrontation with Jacob, the entire domain of death fell into unprecedented turmoil as countless undead flooded inward from every ravine, battlefield, canyon, and ruined settlement that had been consumed during the Death March.

They gathered like an endless black tide returning to its source, and their numbers had long surpassed billions or even trillions, maybe even more.

New undead continued to arrive every moment as countless corpses harvested throughout Sagittarius were dragged into the Skyfall Domain and assimilated into the ever-growing legions.

The outer regions were no longer sufficient, the middle regions were no longer sufficient, and even the vast inner regions seemed unable to contain the endless masses.

From above, the Undead Skyfall Canyons resembled a colossal anthill, with every tunnel and chamber overflowing with crawling black insects.

Yet there was something profoundly wrong: there was no triumph, celebration, or anticipation of conquest, for the undead were afraid, as if reflecting their master’s thoughts!

Millions upon millions stood in rigid formations, absolute silence dominated the canyons, and not a single undead dared move without purpose.

The countless soul-fires flickered uneasily, as if they were waiting, fearing that something or someone would crash through the gates of their domain at any moment.

Meanwhile, a terrifying mist had completely engulfed the core region, yet unlike the death mist, another authority now lingered within it, destruction, as the two laws seemed to be intertwined together.

The ethereal fog flowed like a living ocean, covering the deepest regions of the canyons and swallowing entire mountains from sight.

Anything entering it would be destroyed within the scoop Middle Plains; Quasi-Myths could not survive and would suffer terrible consequences.

The mist itself had become a forbidden zone like a warning, and a scar left behind by something unimaginable; something that had shaken even the rulers of the Undead Skyfall.

At this moment, deep within the Bone Citadel’s Throne Hall.

The colossal throne of the Undead Lich King stood empty, and the sight alone felt wrong; for countless years, that throne had never lacked its master, yet now it sat abandoned, cold, and eerily silent, like a monument to a fallen era.

Twenty-one figures stood within the hall; they were the Dukes of Death, and their expressions were grim. None dared to speak.

But there was something strange as all eyes remained fixed upon two figures, the Axe Bone Tyrant and the Corpse Wyvern Lord, as both appeared utterly shaken.

Especially the Corpse Wyvern Lord. The normally cunning and composed Duke of Death looked as though he had personally witnessed the end of the world. The flames within his eyes flickered violently, and his skeletal fingers trembled slightly as if he had seen a nightmare that still haunted him.

Finally, one of the Dukes of Death, a Quasi-Myth Lich, broke the silence, “What happened?”

His voice echoed hollowly, “Why were we recalled? Our legions received direct orders…”

A sudden pause as the speaker hesitated, because even uttering those words seemed difficult.

“Orders from the Exalted Existence!”

The atmosphere instantly grew heavier because it wasn’t just one Duke of Death; everyone received a direct and irrefutable command from the Undead Skyfall, which shouldn’t be possible as long as the Undead Lich King was alive!

Another Duke stepped forward, a giant ghost sovereign whose translucent body towered over everyone else.

“Where is His Majesty, the Undead Lich King?”

No one answered immediately as they don’t know and want the same clarification.

At this moment, the Axe Bone Tyrant slowly raised his head, his massive frame seemed far older than before, and far wearier.

When he finally spoke, his voice was unusually quiet, “The answer to both questions is the same.”

The hall froze as the Bone Tyrant’s jaw tightened as if merely speaking about the matter carried unimaginable danger.

“The Exalted One awakened.”

Several Dukes visibly stiffened.

“The Higher Being personally intervened.”

In absolute, suffocating silence, the Bone Tyrant continued, “The Undead Lich King confronted an enemy, and he…lost!”

The words landed like a cosmic thunderbolt, making several Dukes stagger while others looked at him as if he had gone insane.

“Lost?”

“His majesty the Undead Lich King?!”

“Impossible!”

“The sovereign of the Skyfall, and the chosen ruler of death. The servant of the Higher Being. How could such an existence lose?!” Matron One screamed, her voice rising to a ghostly wail.

The Corpse Wyvern Lord suddenly laughed, but it was filled with fear and dread, “You think that’s the shocking part?”

His eyes burned wildly as he spat while his voice cracked, “You weren’t there, so you didn’t s-see it. The enemy was a mere mortal, and despite the Higher Being’s personal intervention, the Undead Lich King still perished!”

The hall erupted with disbelief as everything the Corpse Wyvern Lord just said sounded absurdly impossible and utterly mad.

Yet neither the Axe Bone Tyrant nor the Corpse Wyvern Lord showed any sign of joking, and, on top of that, they all received that urgent command from the ‘Higher Being’ rather than the Lich King.

Instantly, terror lingered in both their eyes, a terror no undead should possess.

The Bone Tyrant slowly continued, “The Undead Lich King is gone. A true death!”

Those two words shattered whatever hope remained among the Dukes of Death as they stood frozen.

Some felt their soul-fires fluctuate violently; others unconsciously stepped backward.

But they suddenly thought about them, if the Undead Lich King was really dead, then why were they still standing? Why hadn’t they vanished alongside their master?

As if reading their thoughts, the Bone Tyrant answered, “It was the Exalted Existence.”

The Dukes immediately fell silent as realization dawned on them.

“The Higher Being preserved us and granted us purpose. The Higher Being commanded us personally.”

The Bone Tyrant’s gaze shifted toward the depths of the citadel, toward a place none of them could see, a place buried beneath reality itself.

“Our purpose is no longer conquest; instead, our new purpose is protection!”
