Cursed Immortality

Chapter 1245: Riding for a Fall! (4)

Chapter 1245: Riding for a Fall! (4)

“Our purpose is no longer conquest; instead, our new purpose is protection!”

The Corpse Wyvern Lord clenched his bone claws at the sound of those words, as the memory of that terrifying being resurfaced.

It wasn’t just him, as every Duke of Death understood, no need for clarification, for they knew why they were called back like that with their legions, the calamity; the monster who had slain their king, and the being who had forced even the Higher Existence to respond was probably coming!

The Corpse Wyvern Lord and the others, for the first time since turning undead, understand fear.

Yet despite that fear, all twenty-one Dukes slowly knelt because they were undead; they belonged to their master; obedience was engraved into their very souls; and if that calamity truly came, they would hold the line until the end, no matter the cost.

The Great Cosmic Continent of Sagittarius, far above the ravaged lands, beyond the suffocating death mist and ruined horizons, countless colossal warships descended from the starry space.

The vanguard fleet of the Mythical Coalition had arrived!

At the forefront of the formation stood two figures.

One was a giant draconic man whose crimson scales seemed forged from living magma. Every breath carried faint traces of fire, while streams of molten light flowed beneath the gaps of his armor like rivers trapped beneath volcanic stone. It was the Myth of Inferno.

Beside him stood an even more imposing figure.

A towering ogre clad in dark metallic armor. Countless arcs of silver-blue lightning crawled across his skin and armor alike, crackling violently before disappearing into the surrounding air, for it was the Myth of Thunder.

The moment the fleet crossed Sagittarius’ outer boundary, both Quasi-Myths immediately released their soul senses.

Behind them, thousands of warships activated battle formations, energy cannons awakened, runic arrays illuminated, and Legendary Kings took their positions.

Everyone had been prepared for war, for the endless undead tide, for the Death March, and for blasting apart countless undead legions.

But to everyone’s surprise, nothing happened, and silence greeted them as the devastated landscape filled with death below stretched endlessly toward the horizon.

Yet there were no skeletal armies, death knights, corpse beasts, or a sea of undead as they had expected. There was not even an undead insect…nothing.

The Myth of Inferno’s fiery eyes narrowed slightly, and the Myth of Thunder frowned before they looked at each other, seeking clarification neither had.

Behind them, confusion rapidly spread throughout the command vessels.

“Commander?”

“Where are the undead?”

“Did our scanners malfunction?”

“Are they concealed underground?”

Even veteran operators looked bewildered; the countless undead signatures they had expected simply did not exist.

The Myth of Thunder raised one massive hand and activated a spell…

‘BOOM!’

A storm of lightning erupted around him, blasting directly through the desolate black earth, but nothing was there, and his expression immediately darkened.

At the same moment, the Myth of Inferno spread its perception, with raging flames erupting around its body before rapidly dispersing throughout the surrounding heavens. Yet the result was identical. There was nothing, not even a trace.

“Impossible…” the Myth of Thunder spat with a hint of bewilderment, “What is happening?”

The Myth of Inferno remained silent, but moments later, he produced a bronze compass covered in ancient glyphs. This was no ordinary treasure and a Quasi-Myth Rank Soul Artifact specifically prepared for the Sagittarius Continent by the Myth of Reverend.

This compass could detect even the slightest trace of the Undead race within a ten-million-mile radius.

The Myth of Inferno instantly activated the compass, and the next moment the needle spun, paused, then spun again before finally stopping.

The result finally startled both Myths for real. Within the compass’s detection radius, there was no target, undead, or even a living creature.

The Myth of Thunder slowly lowered his hand and commented, “It is as if the entire continent has been emptied.”

The command center also reached a similar conclusion because that was exactly what the sensors were reporting.

Despite this eerily bizarre situation, the two myths and the fleets continued advancing cautiously. Yet still nothing. The operators searched again and again, but the results never changed.

Even more strangely, the atmosphere beyond the continental boundary remained isolated. The oppressive barrier surrounding the Sagittarius Continent still existed as they could feel it; the continent remained sealed.

Yet everything inside appeared vacant as though the tyrannical undead army that had conquered Sagittarius had simply vanished from existence.

The Myth of Inferno finally spoke, “Let’s contact the rear command.”

“It seemed to be the only choice right now.” Myth of Thunder nodded before he took out a small crystalline talisman.

It was a special communication talisman prepared by the Myth of Reverend as well, so they could communicate seamlessly despite the interference of the Undead Skyfall’s seal.

The moment the talisman was active, a connection was established instantly, and a cold female voice emerged, “What happened? You are communicating so quickly? Don’t tell me you guys directly stumbled upon those Quasi-Myth Rank Undead nest?”

The Myth of Thunder smiled wryly as he spoke, “It wouldn’t be so bad if we had, but the thing is, Lady Oracle, we’ve entered Sagittarius safely.”

“Then what is the problem?” The Myth of Oracle sounded slightly confused.

The Myth of Inferno answered, “There is nothing here.”

Silence followed, and several breaths later, even the Myth of Oracle sounded slightly surprised, “What do you mean nothing? Explain!”

The Myth of Thunder explained dryly, “It’s just as Brother Inferno just stated. There is no undead army, not even their trace, within the range of Lifeless Compass’s detection. But the barrier still exists, as we can feel the continent’s atmosphere; the seal has not disappeared. The scanners also detect neither undead nor living creatures. “

For the first time, complete silence answered them, even the Myth of Oracle seemed caught off guard. That reaction alone caused the expressions of both Myths to become grave!

Because the Undead Army wasn’t some mindless bunch, for they were controlled by a powerful Undead Lich King, and behind them were even more terrifying entities hidden within the Undead Skyfall Canyons.

That’s why this sudden disappearance made them even more agitated and filled with trepidation, and from the Myth of Oracle’s reaction, it seemed they hadn’t even predicted this, then something was seriously wrong!
