Chapter 876: Chapter 25: Humiliation (Part 2)

In various types of primitive forests, especially those with higher temperatures and humidity, the probability of miasma appearing is higher. The Underground Botanical Garden boasts a diverse range of flora and fauna and various types of plants distributed across different plots. After splitting up with Xiao Xian, Wang Shuai ventured into a typical rainforest area.

Quinn is the caretaker of the Underground Botanical Garden. He is a burly man who doesn’t have the mind to deal with the carcasses of animals, especially plants. Plus, there are too many types of animals in the rainforest, many of them vicious predators which Quinn favors, and their numbers are countless and fight fiercely to the death. Except for some fungi planted by Locke that help decompose, the excess is scattered around the Tropical Rainforest area after the high-temperature rain.

These miasmas are distributed on higher grounds as well as low and quiet areas, with some even forming in the mud swamps.

Locke had long warned Xiao Xian and Wang Shuai, and having participated in family and national training several times, Wang Shuai was not unfamiliar with the miasma, so he had some vigilance and ventured inside.

What he did not anticipate was, "Damn, what the hell is this," Wang Shuai stumbled and fell to the ground. Just avoiding a band of miasma, he collided with a layer of liquid miasma floating between the treetops.

What he did not anticipate was that "miasma" is not necessarily "gas."

"I wonder how Xiao Xian is doing over there; hope her luck is better than mine," Wang Shuai was worried about the safety of his team member on one hand and trying to prevent inhaling harmful miasma on the other.

A few leaves fell from the sky, and Wang Shuai dared not neglect and hurriedly avoided them.

This dense forest, like a primitive rainforest, is where miasma can turn into dew at any moment, and some plants growing in the miasma turn toxic.

If one gets contaminated by these plants or toxic dew, it’s easy to catch sudden tropical diseases like malaria or even cause skin ulcers. Wang Shuai’s cultivation is slightly higher than Xiao Xian’s, but in a dense forest full of danger, he dared not be reckless.

Upon entering the dense forest, Wang Shuai managed to distribute his Spiritual Energy carefully throughout his body, but in the presence of miasma, the abundant Spiritual Power was blocked outside.

After half an hour of walking, his Spiritual Energy began to deplete, so Wang Shuai had to distribute it among several vital organs after weighing his options.

His specialty is Spiritual Guidance Technique; knowing that as long as he protects the heart, blood, and brain, he can treat himself immediately after leaving the dense forest. Thus, he controlled his heartbeat and breathing to minimal frequencies, exposing himself to miasma.

Gradually, his skin color changed from normal yellow to light green, and eventually his entire body became a muddy dark green-black.

The miasma ahead showed no signs of dispersing, as miasma and Spiritual Energy battled fiercely within him.

Wang Shuai tried to maintain clarity in his mind; Locke had once said, "Whenever there is miasma, there must be accompanying plants or animals that interact with each other."

Wang Shuai searched all around, his feet surrounded by rows of brightly colored fungi, whether poisonous, was hard to discern.

A few toads were hopping about happily, unaffected by the miasma.

Wang Shuai swallowed hard as his chest grew painful and swollen due to suppressed breathing.

The toads hopped to his feet, unaware that someone viewed them as a remedy.

Wang Shuai grabbed a toad, and its toxic skin touched his hand, causing blisters and pus on his unprotected hand.

"Damn beastman," Wang Shuai’s eyes had swollen like the toad’s as he muttered, "Swallow it, just pretend it’s sashimi." Under the family’s protection, Wang Shuai had never experienced something so humiliating. Despite his nausea, he grabbed a toad’s leg and swallowed it whole.

Feeling it struggle down his throat, he used his limited Spiritual Power to digest any potential antidote the toad might contain.

"Why isn’t it working," Wang Shuai sweats gray, the discomfort in his stomach growing into a more terrifying pain.

The lucky escaping toads still bounced ahead, reaching a moist moss-covered depression.

"Could it be the moss instead of the toads," Wang Shuai cursed, having no strength to move forward but crawled to the moss-covered depression.

Grabbing a handful of moss, he stuffed it into his mouth, no longer caring, swallowed it with dry saliva.

Bitter or rotting poop taste mattered not. Wang Shuai knew the hard-to-swallowed moss carried soil down his throat, and the suffocating miasma and painful toad poison were fading, replaced by overwhelming sleepiness.

Apparently, this moss had certain detoxifying properties, but not enough to remove all the toxins in his body.

Unexpectedly, Wang Shuai found himself in such a disgraceful situation, and he expected the two Senior Researchers at Meng Mountain to find him hilariously embarrassing.

He closed his eyes and sat up; before slipping into complete darkness and silence, he heard a surprised shout he recognized as Xiao Xian’s voice.

Luckily, at least one of them was alright, saving some face for the Chinese.
