Chapter 330: All Under Her Control
Chapter 330: All Under Her Control
Cecilia teleported away, sweat dripping down her brow with how close she’d come to death.
As she appeared in the air, the wind that had followed her teleportation whipped around her, flapping her hair into her face. She’d escaped the dragon’s paw by a hairsbreadth. If she’d been just a fraction of a second late, she’d already be dead.
Her hair had come loose out of her ponytail, waving this way and that, but she paid it no mind. After all, she wasn’t just focused on her sight for seeing. She also had heat senses.
And it was those senses that warned her just in time.
Her head snapped upwards and she stretched her hand as the young dragon that had been hiding in the dark clouds descended, firing a missile of blue flames.
It whistled towards her, but Cecilia didn’t flinch, her fire streaming out of her like a net. It encircled the blue flame and she yanked.
The fire changed direction, whistling downwards to hit the adult dragon.
The dragon roared at the attack, which to it was just a minor inconvenience, not taking its focus off the mages it was fighting.
It whipped forward, faster than most on the battlefield could comprehend, its paws slamming them into paste.
Kael opened a portal before him as the dragon’s paw descended, but it was a feint! The dragon’s tail whipped out from the side, catching him unawares.
His instincts saved him, his body dropping to the floor as the tail streaked through where he’d previously been.
He teleported away as the tail abruptly changed direction, smashing where he’d been standing to rubble.
Kael breathed heavily, taking the time to catch his breath, his white hair sticking to his forehead. In all his life, the old man had never been pressed this hard, even when he’d been on the battlefield against demons.
He hadn’t even been able to launch a single attack ever since the dragon got serious.
He looked around the academy, his face dark. While the dragon wasn’t able to fly, it was still an S-rank beast, which meant it was unbelievably fast.
The battle had already moved to the heart of campus and several buildings were destroyed, and some still on fire, the flames a bright blue as the young dragons wreaked havoc of their own.
And Kael knew that if this fight went on for a few more minutes, he’d definitely die, just like the guard captain and Oliver.
Just as he was about to throw himself back into the fight, a large circle of light appeared on the ground, and hope bloomed in his heart.
’Finally! Our reinforcements have arrived!’
A second later, his hope died an ugly death as the light faded away to reveal a contingent of black robed figures. Then his blood ran cold.
He could feel it. The same energy he’d felt on the day the dragon had attacked the capital. These were hybrids.
That was when the leader of the robed figures stepped forward, a tinkling laugh emerging from under the hood.
"Hello, lovelies!" She said, waving demurely at them.
Lady in Dark couldn’t contain her joy. This was it! The day she’d spent the last decade planning for. The day her wish would finally come true.
She surveyed the battlefield, taking in the battles all over the place as the defenders fought against the dragons.
Her senses wandered over the entire school, searching for a particular consciousness.
’Where’s Noah?’
She jumped from mind to mind, but none of them had that unique and defiant stream of thoughts.
Dismissing the search, she simply took a peek into Kael’s memories before he was even aware of her existence in his mind, reading what had happened.
’He collapsed after pouring his mana into the spatial rift?’
Well, it had been a stretch to expect him to survive this. He’d already gone above and beyond what she’d expected of him.
But with that settled, her voice appeared in the mind of the thirty hybrids behind her.
’Kill.’
They didn’t need to be told twice. The hybrids streaked in all directions and began slaughtering the defenders.
Kael’s eyes widened in shock as one of the hybrids streaked towards him, immediately teleporting away.
He appeared an instant later, and that was when the pain hit him, blood spurting through the air from the place where his arm should have been.
He grunted in pain, but had the presence of mind to open a portal in front of himself. The hybrid, who had streaked towards him in an attempt to finish what he’d started, tried to stop in panic, but he was going too fast.
He zoomed inside the portal, and the other end opened right into the path of the white-hot flames of the dragon. The hybrid was deep-fried in an instant.
As for Lady in Dark, she turned her attention to her true target, who was in the air, battling one of the young dragons.
Princess Cecilia Pendragon.
But before that, she needed a weapon strong enough to hold back those pesky mages the capital would bring.
The ones capable of casting SS-rank spells. The ones she could already feel coming.
And so, she turned her attention to the adult dragon. Or to be more precise, to the Mana Leech inside of the dragon.
She’d calculated everything perfectly, down to this moment. While the dragon was not a normal beast, it was sapient enough to qualify as one, and it wasn’t sentient enough to resist her. Which made it perfect for what she wanted.
She reached out with her senses, slipping into the Leech’s consciousness, and with a snap of her fingers, her darkness began digging deep, seizing control of the Leech’s soul in its entirety.
A dark grin spread across her face as her web fell into place, and the Mana Leech became her puppet.
And then she commanded it.
The Leech’s roots dug into the dragon’s spine, and with a simple manipulation of mana, it seized control of the dragon’s muscles.
Lady in Dark tilted her head upwards.
The dragon was now under her control.
