Death… And Me

Chapter 3767: Noted

Chapter 3767: Noted

Rean and Roan didn’t make any movement for the moment. They weren’t very happy with the situation, but they understood that Xian likely passed through this many times already.

A few hours later, Rean noticed a reaction coming from Xian, and the shadow kid finally woke up again. "Hey there! Nice work earlier. Have you got what you needed?"

Xian was taken aback for a moment. "So you weren’t a dream..."

Rean laughed in response, refusing to show on his face any of the sadness and anger he felt while Xian was unconscious. "Hahaha! Of course not! Look at me, I’m way too amazing for a simple dream." He then pointed at Roan. "Besides, any dream where that guy appears is more like a nightmare."

*Pah!*

*Arghh!*

This time, it was Roan who slapped the back of Rean’s head... and he truly made sure it hurt a lot. "At least I would be reliable in that dream, different from a certain someone."

Xian couldn’t hold it, laughing at that interaction. "Hahaha! Seniors are funny."

Rean rubbed the back of his head with a bitter smile as Roan looked away, ignoring the two.

Rean crouched in front of Xian again, extending his hand, saying nothing.

Xian didn’t have any reservations this time, moving to Rean and holding his hand.

Of course, Xian immediately remembered what happened while he was absorbing the mindless shadow. "Ah! Senior Calanti, he..."

"Hmph!" Rean cut in. "Senior my ass! That piece of shit has no right to call himself a senior after what he wanted to do to you."

But then, Rean considered a possibility. "Wait," he looked with a concerning expression at Xian. "Could it be he was someone important to you? Because... well..."

Xian quickly shook his head. "No, no, no!"

He continued, "But... he did offer a certain degree of protection with his presence for the likes of me in this area. Only other Level Two Umbras wouldn’t cross his path and touch on his personal emotional energy sources."

That was new information for Rean and Roan. "Umbra? What is an Umbra?"

"It’s us," Xian explained. "That’s what I heard we are called, Umbras."

Roan went to the next obvious question. "What about this level you talked about?"

Xian remembered that Rean and Roan are outsiders, so he explained as well as he could. It’s just that he was truly at the bottom of the food chain, so his knowledge wasn’t extensive.

In any case, Xian explained that the shadows were called Umbras, and they followed a society based on their levels. The higher the level, obviously, the stronger they were. Shadows like Xian were Level One Umbras, while Calanti and Tassil were at Level Two. The shadows outside, by the way, weren’t given a level, but some just call them all Level Zero Umbras.

As for the Umbras above Level Two, Xian himself had never seen them, but he said he heard the Level Two Umbras talking about Level Three Umbras, and those at Level Two seemed to be really afraid of them. As for any higher-level Umbras, he didn’t know if they existed.

Roan heard that, and he tried to make a judgment based on the level of laws he saw Calanti and Tissal using. "Xian, do you have enough energy to attack me?"

Xian was taken aback. "I..."

Rean patted his head. "Don’t worry. He just wants to test something. But if you are too weak to attack even once, you don’t need to do it. As for whether you think you can harm Roan, I hope you can- Ahem... I mean, you don’t need to worry, he is strong."

Slightly reluctant, Xian nodded, not feeling any malice from the twins. He gathered some of the shadow/emotional energy he acquired from the absorption earlier. Sure enough, he also managed to gather laws. In his case, the twins could feel the presence of fire, wood, and that weird law they couldn’t identify.

Last but not least, he transformed into the same dark cloud as Tissal and Calanti, shooting several energy-like attacks in Roan’s direction. He basically attacked in the same way as Tissal and Calanti as well. It seemed the Umbras didn’t use weapons.

*Bang, bang, boom!*

Xian retreated straight away, looking slightly weaker than before the attack. As for Roan, naturally, he was able to easily defend against Xian. He used his Element Intent Scythes to counter the elemental attacks, and his scythes were very effective.

Roan switched to his soul connection with Rean. ’Sure enough, even the fake elements his race uses are all Yin Energy-based, which includes the dark fire. Our Red Lightning is very effective against them, especially if we use your Bright Red Lightning, which is the purest Destructive Yang Force due to your Light Element mixed within. My Dark Red Lightning is the opposite, Yin Energy in nature, and naturally not very effective. Well, it is effective, just not as effective as yours for obvious reasons.’

’The same goes for Xian’s laws. He isn’t truly gathering the laws like we do. Instead, he uses his shadow/emotional energy to force the laws to work for him. The interesting part is that he can use these laws without any issues, as if he already comprehended them. So, he gathers these laws in a different way, but has no issues with using them.’

’As for his strength, Xian’s laws are equivalent to a Space-Time Realm level, Initial Stage, to be more specific. It matches your description of a newborn soul’s properties, showing he is indeed young. Considering the strongest Umbras outside this installation are somewhat around the Elemental Space Realm level, we can make an educated guess that they only gain soul and sentience at the equivalent of a Space-Time Realm Level.’

’Finally, if we assume that Xian’s power is around the Space-Time Realm, while Calanti and Tissal are somewhat equivalent to Divinity, we can conclude that the Umbras categorize their levels based on their ability to control the laws and the artificial elements they create using their shadow/emotional energy. Divinity equivalent would be a Level Two Umbra.’

Rean narrowed his eyes. ’Then a Level Three Umbra... Would it be equivalent to a Celestial Realm?’

’Hard to say...’ Roan wasn’t so certain. ’The jump in power from Divinity to Celestial is ridiculously high. Maybe it is indeed equivalent to a Celestial Realm Expert, but it might as well be similar to a Semi-Celestial Realm Expert instead. I’m more inclined to believe in the latter.’

’Also...’ Roan thought further. ’It’s not because Xian didn’t hear about Level Four Umbras that they don’t exist. We’d better be even more careful ahead.’

Rean definitely wouldn’t want to meet a Level Four. ’Noted...’
