Chapter 3790: Comply!
Chapter 3790: Comply!
As that Umbras approached, he also noticed Erxando and, of course, Xian. At first, that Umbra didn’t find it strange as he would bump into other Level Three Umbras now and then. However, Xian’s presence was truly intriguing. So, just as Erxando mentioned, it decided to come close to take a look.
Erxando couldn’t help but bitterly smile. It wasn’t just about hiding the twins’ existence and protecting Xian; there was also the fact that he is truly, truly weak at the moment. All he could do was to pretend to be okay and try to scare the other guy away.
*Zush!*
*hrumm...*
Another dark cloud approached from a distance without a care for appearances. Since they couldn’t hide from each other, the best was to come close, ready to fight.
When that Umbra arrived, it saw Erxando glaring over before momentarily checking Xian close to Erxando. "It has been a while, Erxando. What are you doing?"
Erxando snorted, also back in his dark cloud form. "It has been a while indeed, Renkan. I’m not doing anything, just taking care of my own business."
How could Renkan not understand? Erxando was obviously saying he wouldn’t speak a word of what was happening. "I see..." Renkan checked the surroundings, but other than Xian and Erxando, there didn’t seem to be anything out of order. The weird part was indeed Erxando flying around with a Level One Umbra since Level One Umbras had no use for Umbras at Level Three. "So be it..."
Fortunately, Renkan wouldn’t start a fight for nothing. He simply turned around and flew away. As to what he thought of this situation, that was none of Erxando’s problem.
Seeing that Renkan left his detection range, Erxando finally relaxed and returned to his shadow humanoid form. "What shit luck. The very first Umbra we find comes straight at us to see what is happening." He then looked at Xian, knowing the twins and Kentucky were there. "Still, your concealing ability is truly impressive. Even I can’t see anything out of the place."
Roan’s voice echoed in Erxando’s mind. ’That was a good test. Now, let’s not waste time and keep going.’
Erxando nodded and continued to fly while Xian and the twins’ group followed.
From what Erxando said, it would take them two days to get to the place where the Black Light originates. To be fair, they should be more careful now than later. Most Level Three Umbras stay near this area as they hunt for unlucky Level Two Umbras. As for the area where the Black Light comes from, few Umbras stayed there.
During the first day, their group noticed over thirty Level Three Umbras. As rare as they might be, given enough time, enough of them would accumulate in these parts. Of those Umbras, only three of them were curious enough to come and check on Erxando.
Another point of existing just a few Level Three Umbras was that they all pretty much knew each other. According to Erxando, there were no more than two hundred and forty of them, and Erxando knew more than half personally. It’s just that they tried to avoid each other most of the time. Otherwise, he probably would know every single one.
In any case, the Umbras who came to check on Erxando because of Xian’s presence left moments later, none of them willing to cause trouble because of a Level One Umbra.
Time passed, and almost two days went by. "We are getting close. Xian, be aware that that area’s effect on Umbras’ minds is potent. If you feel that your thoughts are slowing, let us know immediately. At that point, you won’t be far from losing consciousness, and once that happens, you won’t wake up anymore unless you leave the area. As you can imagine, Level Three Umbras would never help each other in such a situation either."
The twins and Kentucky also raised their guards. That place worked on the Umbras, but there was nothing saying it didn’t work on living beings. If anything, it might be more effective against them than Umbras. Mind attacks weren’t the only thing that could knock you unconscious, and if that was the case, the system would not protect them.
Their speed went down as they moved forward. Finally, the twins’ group noticed a change in the environment. So far, there has been only the bright silver empty space and the floating black spheres. But now, in the distance, they saw the black spheres’ numbers decreasing. That allowed them to barely see beyond the black curtain as a dark purple light passed through.
"Is that the place you mentioned?" Rean asked.
Erxando nodded. "The one and the same. But we aren’t there yet. You can see the dark purple light from here, but we are still around two hours away from there. No, to be more specific, it is two hours until I reach the limit. If I go any further after that, even I won’t be able to stay awake. Don’t forget, no one knows what is inside there since none of us can enter."
They understood and were already expecting this. Erxando had mentioned that the place was enormous, and this only confirmed his words.
Things went smoothly, and they thought they would get there without any issues. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned until the end.
"Heads up, another Level Three Umbra has just entered our detection range," Xian and Erxando warned. The Umbra was still a few hundred kilometers away, but he was definitely there.
Yet, it wasn’t only one for long. In the next seconds, another three appeared, both Erxando and Xian noticing their presence. They were together, four of them, all coming for Erxando.
"What now?" Erxando explained it, asking the twins before that group arrived.
Roan thought for a moment. "They are still too far to see us directly. What would you do in such a situation?"
Erxando didn’t think twice. "What would I do? Is there even a need to ask? I would have turned around and fled straight away. Who would be idiot enough to wait for a group of Level Three Umbras to come at you?"
Roan nodded. "You heard him, Kentucky. Everyone, hop on! Kentucky, take us away before those guys can get close enough to suspect anything."
"Now we are talking!" Kentucky was more than happy to comply.
