Roan continued. ’The pillars.’

That made everyone confused.

’What do you mean?’ Rean asked. ’The Ghost only appears for those who try to escape Woster, far, far from the city. The pillars only exist in the city, don’t they?’

Roan confirmed the last part. ’You are correct that the pillars only exist in the city. However, they are the very thing that controls the Ghost of Woster.’

He continued walking, his mind becoming increasingly certain about the theory that had been forming since he first touched the pillar.

’Everything makes sense if you think about it like this. The pillars are the connection between the womb and the Ghost. The womb absorbs the Yin Energy, and at the same time, makes sure everyone stays in Woster. This thing about cultivators touching the pillar and dying is nothing but a side effect.’

’Think about it. Why would a womb that needs Yin Energy need to randomly kill cultivators who touch a pillar? There is no reason for the pillar itself to possess such an ability unless that ability serves another purpose. The souls being dragged away are merely providing the womb with what it needs.’

’And what about the Ghost?’ Rean asked.

Roan’s expression became serious.

’The Ghost is strong enough that even Peak Stage Law Gods can’t escape it. Since the pillars are what control the Ghost from such a long distance, obviously just touching one is enough to kill an expert. They carry this much power. Cultivators who touch the pillar simply experience whatever those who try to escape experience.’

’Ah!’

Rean finally understood where Roan was coming from.

’POWER LINK!’

’Exactly!’ Roan confirmed.

Back when the Godly Horrors got close to the Sacred Relic of Besgol, the Godly Colossi used an ability called Power-Link to transfer their own power through Godly Pressure to the Godly Horrors. The idea was to have them destroy the Sacred Relic.

Even now, this ability was a little bit of a mystery. Duze didn’t explain it to the twins in detail back then, just the general concept.

Unfortunately for Godly Horrors, their ability relied on Godly Pressure, and the twins’ group used the Sanctuary just as the Power-Link activated. That immediately cut the connection between the Godly Horrors, the little lizard that was being used as a relay point, and the Godly Colossi. So much so that the two Godly Colossi even suffered a huge backlash. In the end, the Blood Seraphin sacrificed his companion to flee.

Roan didn’t see the Godly Colossi die or anything, but he definitely saw what their Sanctuary caused to the Godly Horrors. He knew how such a connection could allow power to be transferred across a tremendous distance to the point it could even cancel the Sacred Relic’s influence at such close distances.

’What does Woster have most that you can’t find outside?’ Roan asked, before quickly answering his own question. ’Godly Pressure.’

The more he thought about it, the more everything seemed to fit together.

’Although I’m not sure if it is really the same Power-Link that Duze told us about, it is definitely something very similar. That’s how the Ghost of Woster is being controlled.’

Rean fell silent for a moment.

The idea sounded ridiculous at first. Yet, the more they considered it, the more sense it made. Woster had an enormous amount of Godly Pressure, enough to suppress even extremely powerful cultivators. Only those who were born and lived here adapted completely over countless generations. The Goodbye World Pillars were spread throughout the city, and the so-called Ghost of Woster only appeared when someone tried to travel too far from the city, trying to escape Woster.

There was a connection.

There had to be.

’In fact,’ Roan added, ’I dare say there isn’t a Ghost at all.’

Everyone became even more attentive.

’Instead, those Navy-Blue Threads were likely what made others think it was a Ghost somehow. If the threads can extend from the womb through the surrounding space, there is no reason they can’t reach cultivators outside the city as well. The difference is simply that no one can see them clearly enough to understand what is actually happening.’

’Then all those stories about the Ghost...’ Celis muttered.

’It is like I said before, someone is spreading this story on purpose,’ Roan added. ’At least that’s what I believe. How can there be a legend about the Ghost if there are never any survivors? There have to be survivors. After all, the legends that Vancuger mentioned talked about the Navy-Blue Threads. It is too much of a coincidence.’

Roan stopped for a moment as another crowd passed him. He waited until they were gone before continuing toward the next pillar.

Of course, it was all still a theory.

Roan knew that. There were too many things they didn’t understand about Woster, and they hadn’t seen the so-called Ghost themselves. There was also no way to prove that the Navy-Blue Threads he had seen inside the womb were the same ones responsible for killing cultivators who attempted to escape.

But as Roan said, the theory connected all the points.

The Goodbye World Pillars explained the Dead Souls. The Dead Souls explained the Yin Energy. The Yin Energy explained how the mysterious womb could continue developing. The womb explained the existence of the Navy-Blue Threads. The Threads could explain the Ghost. Last but not least, the Ghost explained why Woster’s cultivators were unable to leave.

It was a chain connecting almost every strange phenomenon they had encountered since arriving.

Yet, for such a thing to be possible, some other kind of power was definitely necessary. Something strong enough to defy the normal logic of the Celestial Plane and allow a womb hidden in another space to influence an enormous prison, control a mysterious entity, and potentially reach cultivators so far away, all of that while the limit of power in this place is only the Law God Realm.

What else could it be if not the power of a Great Void Echo?
