Chapter 634: The Location

The name of the restaurant was displayed in elegant script above the door, though it was understated. Those who needed to know the name already did.

The people entering and exiting were dressed in ornate clothing. Designer suits, flowing gowns, jewelry that caught the light and sparkled with every movement.

This wasn’t just wealth. This was the kind of wealth that didn’t need to announce itself because everyone already knew.

Alexandra’s eyes widened as she recognized someone stepping out of a luxury car. A local celebrity, one she’d seen on television countless times. Then another emerged from the entrance, laughing with companions. And another walked past them toward the door.

Her face paled, and she turned to Kaiden with wide eyes. "Did you truly take us to a place like this?"

Kaiden grinned in response. "We made a lot of money in recent weeks and didn’t spend much of it on ourselves. I thought it was time to splurge a bit. We deserve it. Don’t you girls agree?"

The numerous grins welcoming his question told Kaiden all he needed to know. No one felt like the expensive bill that would result from this outing was a waste.

Before Alexandra could respond, a waitress approached them. But she wasn’t dressed like any waitress Alexandra had ever seen. Her attire was ornate and elegant, almost as if she were a guest herself. A flowing black dress with delicate gold embroidery and understated jewelry that still screamed expense adorned her form.

She looked at Kaiden and his group with visible uncertainty. It didn’t take a genius to notice that most guests here were publicly known figures. Thus, in her mind, she should have recognized them. However, she didn’t.

Kaiden stepped forward and spoke clearly. "Reservation under ’Anonymous.’"

Yeah. He didn’t put too much thought into it.

The waitress’s eyes widened immediately. That wasn’t just a registration for a table. That was a private booth! The VVVIP treatment!

She bowed gracefully, her composure returning in an instant. "Of course, welcome to our establishment. We’re honored to have you, ladies and gentlemen."

Then her expression turned apologetic, and she clasped her hands together. "I am terribly sorry to trouble you, but with anonymous registrations, we are required to request proof of funds before the service begins. Please forgive the inconvenience."

Her tone was proper and subservient, professional in every way.

Alexandra studied the woman with interest in her eyes. A fellow servant, even if their stations were different. She felt she could learn from this woman’s poise and grace.

Kaiden nodded. "I understand. Would showing my bank balance suffice?"

The waitress shook her head politely. "I apologize, but this establishment accepts only Chronos as payment. Guests are required to convert their dollars or foreign currency to the local currency beforehand."

"Oh." Kaiden paused. "Then do you have a reader with you?"

After all, Chronos wasn’t a visible currency. It was what the awakened world revolved around, used in the awakened marketplace among other things. However, it could still be sent to other people, behaving almost like cryptocurrency but even more magical.

The woman nodded and reached into her pocket, pulling out a sleek artifact about the size of a phone. "Please place your finger here."

Kaiden glanced at Aria briefly. In that split second, he opened his interface and transferred most of his funds to her account. He wanted to keep their net worth a secret and, obviously, showing his full balance would defeat that purpose.

He placed his finger on the artifact.

The device began reading his Chronos balance.

The waitress glanced down at the screen.

Her face went pale.

The number displayed had one or two too many zeroes!

The kind of wealth that made even luxury establishments sit up and take notice.

This likely meant one thing. The people before her were awakened combatants. And high-tier ones at that!

Not many young non-awakened could walk around with that much money on their person.

Her hand trembled slightly before she quickly regained her professional decorum. She cleared her throat and bowed even deeper than before. "Thank you for your patronage, honored guests. Please, right this way. We will ensure your experience is nothing short of exceptional."

The waitress led them through the main dining area where elegant guests sat at polished tables, their conversations hushed and refined. Crystal chandeliers cast soft light across the space, and the scent of expensive cuisine filled the air.

They passed through a corridor lined with traditional Japanese artwork before arriving at a set of ornate sliding doors. The waitress opened them to reveal their private booth.

The space was breathtaking.

A large circular table dominated the center, custom-fitted with the exact number of seats Kaiden had requested. The aesthetic was pure traditional sushi mastery merged with modern luxury: dark wood accents, subtle golden inlays, and soft ambient lighting that created an intimate atmosphere. Behind a pristine counter stood an entire cooking brigade, five master chefs dressed in immaculate white uniforms with black aprons, each one focused and ready.

This wasn’t just a meal. This was theater.

Aria gasped and leaned close to Kaiden, her voice dropping to a whisper so the staff wouldn’t hear. "Wait, Kai! A sushi restaurant?"

Kaiden whispered back with a gentle smile. "Our first restaurant together was a sushi place. That’s where you all decided to become my Valkyries, remember? I thought it would be nice to repeat that moment, but in an establishment that fits where we are now. A way to celebrate how far we’ve come."

Aria’s eyes softened immediately, and she looked at him with pure affection.

Nyx and Luna exchanged glances and grinned. The thoughtfulness behind the choice wasn’t lost on them. A repeat of their first restaurant meal together, but upgraded to match their growth. It was romantic in a way that felt uniquely Kaiden - practical and sentimental at the same time.

The waitress gestured toward the table with elegance. "Please, make yourselves comfortable. This evening will be an omakase experience, curated specifically for you. Our chefs will guide you through a selection of premium monster meat prepared in various traditional and contemporary styles. Each course has been chosen to showcase the unique flavors and textures these rare ingredients offer."

She paused and bowed slightly. "Should anything not meet your expectations, or if you have particular preferences or dietary requests, please do not hesitate to inform us. Your satisfaction is our highest priority."

Kaiden nodded. "Thank you."

The group began taking their seats around the circular table. Aria sat beside Kaiden with Lux on her other side. Alice claimed the seat on Kaiden’s opposite side while the others filled in naturally. Alexandra hesitated before sitting between Nyx and Calypso again, with her earlier anxiety momentarily forgotten as she took in the grandeur around her.

The head chef stepped forward and offered a respectful bow. "We are honored to serve you this evening. Please allow us to begin."

The brigade moved in perfect synchronization. Knives gleamed as they began their work, hands moving with the precision of artists who had spent decades mastering their craft.

The waitress turned to leave, her expression still composed despite the earlier shock.

Then she saw them.

The shadows beneath her feet were moving.

Writhing.

Alive.

She screamed.
