Chapter 763: Chaotic Dinner
Chapter 763: Chaotic Dinner
The kitchen was a warzone in the best possible way.
Alice had claimed the center island as her command post, wooden spoon in hand, pointing it at anyone who moved too slowly or plated too messily. Her brow was furrowed with the severity of a general leading a campaign, and she directed traffic with absolute confidence in her own authority.
"More sauce on that one! No, not that much! Nyx, the garnish is crooked!"
"It’s a leaf, Alice."
"It’s a crooked leaf!"
Behind her, Alexandra moved in quiet circles, adjusting heat on burners Alice had left too high, rescuing a reduction that was thirty seconds from burning, and re-seasoning a cut of Emberfang that needed salt. She did all of it with a big smile, never once correcting the girl out loud, slipping fixes into the workflow so seamlessly that Alice’s commands appeared to be producing perfect results.
The camera caught everything. Alice’s intensity, Alexandra’s saves, the organized chaos of seven women in a kitchen built for three.
When the plates came out, the table went quiet for exactly as long as it took Luna to shove the first bite into her mouth.
"Holy shit."
Alice beamed.
The Emberfang ribs had been cooked until the meat fell apart at a touch, glazed in a reduction of smoke and honey with a faintly mineral edge that reminded everyone this animal had been a dungeon creature hours ago.
The Frosthorn tongue sashimi was paper-thin and cool on the palate, a clean counterpoint to the richness of everything else.
Ironback steak, seared hard on the outside and pink through the middle, sat in pools of herbed butter that Aria had made from scratch while Kaiden held her from behind.
It was, by any measure, an excellent meal.
Kaiden was ambushed as soon as he sat down.
Bastet settled against his left thigh with feline precision, a plate of Frosthorn sashimi in her hands. She picked up a translucent slice with her fingers, held it up to his lips, and waited.
"You worked hard today, Master. Let me feed you."
He opened his mouth. The sashimi was cold and perfect.
Calypso claimed his right, her tail curling around his leg, a fork already loaded with a chunk of Ironback steak dripping with butter.
"Darling~ Try this one. It’s the best cut on the table."
Both thighs claimed, both monster girls feeding him like it was their sacred duty.
Across the table, two pairs of eyes locked onto the scene.
Aria’s smile hadn’t moved, but moonlight pooled between her fingers.
"Big brother." Alice’s voice was dangerously flat. "I leave you alone for two seconds to plate dessert and the zoo takes over. Hmph!"
The yandere and the little sister had been blindsided. For once, the monster girls had gotten there first, and neither Aria nor Alice was handling it with grace.
Bastet offered another slice. Calypso loaded another forkful. Kaiden chewed and decided that being caught in the crossfire of four possessive ladies was a problem for Future Kaiden.
Present Kaiden was eating well.
At the end of the table, a different kind of war was happening.
Luna’s chopsticks blurred toward Nyx’s plate. They slowed halfway there, the air thickening around her wrist like invisible syrup. Luna pushed through it, but the delay was enough. Nyx’s plate slid six inches to the left without anyone touching it, and the chopsticks snapped shut on empty table.
"Fatty!"
"Too slow~"
Like a warrior preparing for a brutal duel, Luna grabbed a second set of chopsticks.
"Dual wielding? Really?"
"I can bring out my Stormblade if you want. Just say the word!"
Nyx giggled at that. "What a sore loser~"
Luna’s eyes narrowed into fiery slits and her left hand came around faster, aiming for the Emberfang rib, but the plate was already drifting again. Every grab met empty air where food had been a half-second earlier.
While Luna overextended, Nyx calmly lifted a piece of steak off Luna’s unguarded plate with a flick of spatial force, sending it in a lazy arc toward her own.
Luna cursed and snatched it out of the air before it landed.
"You’re already full of fat, stop stealing from the starving!"
"I’m sorry you were born with small peaches, bestie."
"HAH?!?!"
Luna shoved the stolen piece into her mouth before Nyx could reclaim it, then went right back on offense. Nyx floated another piece. Luna caught it again. Nyx’s plate kept sliding just out of reach. Luna kept closing the gap a little faster each time.
"Don’t play with your food," Alexandra sighed.
Both girls pointed at the other simultaneously.
"She started it."
"SHE started it!"
What followed was a rapid exchange of stolen bites, spatial parries, and increasingly creative theft attempts that the chat was losing its mind over. Luna’s speed against Nyx’s control, forks and chopsticks clashing like miniature weapons, both of them grinning through full mouths while they fought and shit-talked the other.
Neither stopped eating. The war and the meal coexisted perfectly.
In the background, Kira and Rika stood behind their tablets, monitoring the feed. The dark circles under their eyes had deepened since morning. Kira’s split-dye hair had given up on volume hours ago. Rika’s posture was being held together by caffeine and professional pride.
They adjusted an audio level when Luna’s shrieking reached a volume that might give a heart attack to the elderly, and kept working.
Kaiden glanced at them.
"Kira. Rika. Come, join us."
The twins glanced up in sync.
"We’re good!" Kira waved a hand. "Someone needs to keep an eye on the stream levels."
"We’ve been doing these streams for a long time," Kaiden said. "It’ll be fine. A few amateur mistakes aren’t going to kill anyone."
Rika tilted her head. "That almost sounds like you think we’re not really needed, boss."
Kira pouted. "Ruthless. Absolutely ruthless."
"Do you want me to get charged for labor law violations?"
The twins exchanged a glance. Identical shrugs, identical giggles.
Before they could retreat behind their screens again, Alexandra appeared between them. She took each twin by the arm, guided them firmly to the table, and set two loaded plates in front of them, filled with dungeon materials that were safe for non-awakened to consume.
They took their first bites at the same time.
Kira’s eyes went wide.
Rika’s hands came up to her cheeks.
"Oh my god."
"This is way too good!"
"Are you two new to this?" Luna asked dryly, a stolen piece of Nyx’s steak hanging from her chopsticks.
"Aren’t you supposed to be really well off?" Nyx added, still floating Luna’s dessert out of reach. "This can’t be your first dungeon meal."
They said this while still fighting, neither sparing the twins more than a glance.
The twins chewed, swallowed, and matched expressions of genuine surprise.
"We’ve had dungeon cuisine before," Kira began.
"But this is on a completely different level," Rika finished. "The seasoning, the texture, how tender everything is. This is outstanding. I can tell it was made with a lot of love."
"!!" Alice’s chest puffed out so far she nearly knocked over her water glass.
The rest of the table exchanged a glance. Alexandra’s smile was knowing. Nyx’s eyebrow rose a fraction. Even Luna paused her war long enough to give the twins a small nod for reading the room.
Clearly, they embellished the praise just a tiny bit to make ’someone’ really happy.
"You hear that, big brother?!" Alice chirped.
"I do. And I agree. Amazing job."
A beam that could easily overpower the morning sun welcomed Kaiden’s words.
The chat, meanwhile, had erupted for an entirely different reason.
The moment Kira and Rika sat down in front of the camera, thousands of viewers recognized them.
— xVoidling: WAIT ARE THOSE THE VAUGHN TWINS?!?!
— NyxStan44: no way thats kira and rika
— LunasMunchkin: who?

...
The meal wound down the way good meals do. Slowly, with full stomachs, laughter fading into comfortable silence.
Bastet dabbed a napkin against the corner of Kaiden’s lips, her gaze lidded with satisfaction. Her tail swayed in a lazy rhythm behind her chair.
Calypso had given up all pretense of dignity. Her head rested on Kaiden’s shoulder, her tail draped over his lap. The Infernal Matriarch, the demoness who had once commanded legions, was content as a girl who’d eaten too much and found the perfect spot to be.
Kaiden let the moment sit. Then he stood, both girls’ hands in his, and faced the table.
He grinned.
Every woman understood immediately.
The Demonic Pornstar System’s rank-up mission won’t complete itself.
