Chapter 1229 A Calamitous Entity

Chapter 1229  A Calamitous Entity

For a few moments, Max remained suspended in midair, gasping for breath. His entire body felt fragile, as though it were made of glass. Even the smallest movement sent waves of pain through him.

Cracks still ran faintly across his arms and shoulders, glowing with traces of red energy. His strength was unstable, and he could feel that a single careless action might cause his body to collapse entirely.

"Thanks, Blob," Max said weakly, lowering himself to the ground below. His voice was quiet but filled with gratitude. As soon as his feet touched the barren surface, he sat down, closing his eyes and trying to stabilize his condition.

He focused inward, attempting to circulate his energy and begin the healing process. However, the moment he directed his consciousness toward his core, a golden light suddenly burst forth from within him. It flowed through his veins like liquid sunlight, illuminating his body from the inside. The familiar sensation immediately brought him relief.

His first divine vein—Vein of Origin—had activated on its own. The golden light spread rapidly, tracing the outline of every crack across his body. Wherever it passed, the fissures sealed themselves with a soft, glowing shimmer. The trembling in his soul calmed, and the energy that had been on the verge of collapsing was restored to perfect harmony.

Max let out a slow breath as he felt the warmth of the divine vein's power washing through him. The pain faded completely, replaced by a steady pulse of strength that grew stronger with each passing second. His muscles, bones, and meridians returned to their original state, their structure becoming even firmer than before.

In less than a minute, the damage that had nearly destroyed his body was gone, and his strength returned to its peak condition.

He opened his eyes slowly, the golden glow still fading from his skin. "That was close," he muttered, his tone calm but his eyes reflecting the gravity of what had just happened.

Blob floated nearby, watching him silently, his expression still grim. The red sky above them shimmered faintly, and the dark cloud in the distance continued to churn like a living wound upon the world.

The power of the Vein of Origin had once again proven its worth. It restored the body to its perfect state, returning it to the condition it held before any injury or corruption. No matter how devastating the damage, it could bring the body back to its origin form.

Max flexed his fingers slowly, feeling his restored strength. The pain had vanished completely, but his mind remained heavy. What he had just faced within that red cloud had shaken him deeply. Even his divine body, tempered by the Giant Dwarves, had nearly been destroyed. The fact that Blob had pulled him out at the final moment was the only reason he still existed now.

He turned his gaze toward the horizon where the red cloud loomed like a monstrous wound and said quietly, "That power… it could our destroy entire world."

"I know," Blob said finally, his tone solemn and his expression grave. The light of his spiritual form dimmed slightly as if the weight of his realization was pressing down on him. "I now understand what this spirit truly is."

Max's brows furrowed, and he turned toward Blob. "What is it?" he asked, his voice calm but edged with tension. He could sense from Blob's tone that whatever the answer was, it was far from simple.

Blob floated silently for a few moments, his glowing form flickering faintly. When he spoke again, his voice was slow and heavy. "That is a Devouring Spirit," he said, each word deliberate and measured. "You know that we spirits are always bound to an element. I am a Water Spirit, and you have seen many others—Fire Spirits, Wind Spirits, Earth Spirits, and even rarer ones like Lightning or Space Spirits. All of them are connected to the natural laws that govern existence. But the Devouring Spirit is different. It belongs to no element, no law, and no balance."

He paused briefly as if searching for the right words before continuing. "I once believed it to be only a myth. Among the ancient memories I inherited from my bloodline, there are fragments that speak of it, old records passed down through countless generations of spirits. They described an existence beyond the normal cycle of creation, something born from the void between worlds. The stories said that the Devouring Spirit is not truly a spirit but an entity that mimics one. It is a calamity given consciousness. It travels from one world to another, consuming everything—land, life, energy, and even the very laws that hold a world together. Once it begins to feed, it does not stop until there is nothing left to devour."

Blob's voice grew quieter, but his tone remained steady. "And that girl you called Mimi," he said with a sorrowful look, "she is one of them. She is a Devouring Spirit. It is said that the chance of one being born is beyond rare—one in a billion, or even less. But against all odds, one exists here in front of us. A being that was once a childlike spirit has become something that carries the hunger of destruction itself."

He fell silent for a moment, and then a faint sigh escaped him. His luminous eyes flickered with both sadness and fear. "In my memories," he continued, "it is said that a Devouring Spirit in its natural state is not dangerous. When they are calm and content, they can even coexist peacefully. But their hunger is infinite. Once it awakens, there is nothing that can fill it. The hunger drives them to consume everything they touch. They devour worlds, stars, and life until only emptiness remains. Their hunger is not out of malice, but instinct. They cannot control it, and when it takes hold, even the gods cannot stop them."

Max listened in silence, his gaze heavy and thoughtful.

Blob continued, his tone deepening. "There are also darker stories," he said. "It is told that during the Great War of Creation, millions of years ago, some humans discovered the existence of a dormant Devouring Spirit. They learned to seal and control it while it was in its calm state. They would release it into their enemies' worlds, leaving it to awaken on its own. When the spirit grew hungry, it would devour everything—mountains, oceans, cities, and the souls of all living beings. In those ancient records, it was said that entire realms vanished overnight, erased from existence without leaving even a fragment of ash behind. That was the power of a single Devouring Spirit."

He looked toward the horizon where the red cloud still churned. "To see one alive in this age is unthinkable. I do not know how she was born or how she came to exist here, but one thing is certain. If her hunger continues to grow unchecked, she will consume not only this land but the entire world of Acaris."

His voice grew quieter, almost like a whisper carried by the wind. "This is not just a threat to you or me, Max. This is a threat to this entire world."
