Chapter 1292 A small talk with Mark
Chapter 1292 A small talk with Mark
"What can I do for you?" Max asked as he faced Mark. His tone carried neither hostility nor fear. Instead, there was a quiet heaviness in it, a subtle shift born from everything he had learned about Mark's tragic fall. The hatred he once felt had softened into something more complicated. Mark was no longer just the enemy who destroyed his world's stability. He was also the victim of a calamity that even beings of the Divine Realm feared. That knowledge made Max approach this conversation with an unusual sense of restraint.
"Nothing," Mark replied with a faint smile, though the expression twisted strangely on his corrupted features. "This is my world, after all, so I have always been here, watching while you and the others fought. I must admit, you have grown impressively strong. Almost as strong as me." His voice drifted with a mixture of amusement and warning, as if the acknowledgement held a deeper message beneath it.
Max frowned. "What are you trying to say? Stop wasting time and get to the point."
Mark tilted his head slightly, still smiling. "The demons have been hiding on this world for thousands of years. I am certain your humans have wondered how they survived unseen for so long and where they disappeared between invasions. This place was their sanctuary. And I was the one who welcomed them here." His tone carried no remorse. It was as if he were stating an obvious fact that held no burden.
A cold shadow crossed Max's eyes. "Why are you telling me this?" he asked, his voice turning firm and heavy.
"Because you should know what awaits you once I regain the other two fragments of my soul," Mark said with a darker, colder smile. "When I am whole again, the very first thing I will do is kill you. Consider this a promise, Max. You should prepare yourself."
The air chilled between them. Max stared at Mark for a long moment, his gaze neither hostile nor afraid but filled with a calm determination that refused to waver. "We will see," Max said simply. His voice held no anger. It carried certainty, as though he already accepted that their paths were destined to clash.
Without another word, Max turned and walked toward the tear in the void he had created earlier. Mark watched silently as Max stepped through the portal, the spatial passage shimmering around him. Once Max disappeared into the world of Acaris, the tear slowly sealed itself, closing like a wound healed by time.
Nullaria fell into silence once more.
And the confrontation between Max and Mark was left suspended in the future, waiting for the day when both would stand at full strength and resolve the fate tied to their intertwined destinies.
----
Back in Acaris, Max and the group stepped out of the spatial passage and returned to the very place from which they had departed for Nullaria. The landscape had not changed much. A small fortified camp still stood in the distance, guarded by cultivators who maintained the perimeter.
The moment Max and the young geniuses emerged from the void, the guards stiffened, then relaxed in relief upon recognizing them. Their expressions quickly shifted from vigilance to joy, for the return of so many geniuses signaled victory rather than loss.
Max wasted no time. Before addressing anyone, he released Nero into the world with a subtle gesture of his hand. Nero materialized beside him, the oppressive darkness in his aura carefully restrained. Max leaned forward and issued a quiet order. "Handle the remaining demons across Acaris. Do it discreetly. Do not alarm the humans."
Nero bowed respectfully and vanished into the horizon without causing a ripple of disturbance. With the Soul Seal binding him, Nero would obey perfectly.
Once this was done, Max gathered the geniuses and led them toward the headquarters of the Four God Nation. Their arrival immediately sparked activity. Messengers rushed ahead, guards opened pathways, and news of Max's return spread faster than wildfire.
Within moments, the highest authorities of the Four God Nation and the Seven Overlord Forces were summoned. The leaders of the Obsidian Order and the Hunter Association were also called to attend. By the time Max stepped into the grand meeting hall, every important figure of the continent was already seated, waiting in tense silence.
The atmosphere inside the hall shifted the moment Max entered. The leaders rose courteously, and Max gestured for everyone to sit. Once they settled, he spoke with steady conviction. "All the demons in Nullaria have been eradicated." His voice echoed through the chamber, and the weight of those words fell over the leaders like a cleansing wind.
A wave of relief and triumph washed through the hall.
"Good," one of the Four God Nation leaders said, nodding firmly. "With the demons eliminated, half our problems are solved." Another leader exhaled deeply. "Demons have always been the most troublesome enemy. Now that their hiding grounds have been destroyed, the demons in Acaris will be wiped out soon as well." Murmurs of agreement followed. For the first time in years, the leaders allowed themselves to feel hopeful. The thought of Acaris free from demonic threat brought palpable joy into the room.
Lucien, who had been studying Max closely, leaned forward with curiosity. "What else can you tell us?" he asked. He sensed there was more to the story than a simple victory.
Max nodded. He knew he needed to explain everything he had discovered, not only for transparency but also because the revelations were directly tied to the ancient origins of the Four God Nation.
He began recounting the events in detail. He spoke of the four demon kings and their immense power, the four divine beasts who descended centuries ago, and the mysterious and terrifying True Origin Devil Blood that triggered everything. Then he explained the tragedy of Mark, the crownbearer of their world, and how that cursed drop of blood had corrupted him completely.
The hall descended into heavy silence. Shock settled over the leaders as they absorbed the truth. The ancestors of the Four God Nation were not mythical beings born from earth and sky, but divine beasts from a higher world who had once fought to protect this realm from an unimaginable threat. Mark's corruption, the destruction of the spatial pathways, and the long war with demons—all of it traced back to that ancient conflict.
Max finished speaking, and the weight of history hung over everyone. The leaders looked shaken, uncertain of what future awaited them now that the truth had come to light.
And yet, beneath that uncertainty, a spark of understanding ignited.
This war had never been just a war against demons. It had always been part of a much larger conflict stretching across realms.
