Chapter 1554 Strange Creatures!
Chapter 1554 Strange Creatures!
Max kept his Dimensional Sovereign Body fully active as he sprinted across the desolate land, his figure cutting through the barren battlefield with unwavering speed as he moved toward Isabella's location.
The closer he drew, the more his earlier assumptions were confirmed. This place truly was a battlefield from the past. Scattered across the land were the wreckage of star shuttles of all sizes, their broken hulls half buried in the earth, while countless corpses lay strewn around them, belonging to humans, primordials, and devils alike.
The entire scene carried an oppressive stillness, as though time itself had been frozen at the moment of destruction.
Yet before he could advance much further, Max suddenly came to an abrupt halt.
Figures had appeared ahead of him.
No, not just ahead. They emerged from all directions, surrounding him completely in an instant.
Max's eyes narrowed as he observed the creatures that had encircled him, a deep frown forming on his face as unease crept into his mind. "I cannot see them… nor can I sense them through my Dimensional Sovereign Body. Why is that?" he muttered quietly.
His ability should have allowed him to perceive nearly everything within this dimension, especially now that he had assimilated it, yet these creatures had appeared without any prior warning. It was as if they had slipped past his perception entirely, as though his Dimensional Sovereign Body simply could not recognize their existence.
For a brief moment, a chilling thought crossed his mind. Was it that his ability was being suppressed, or were these creatures existing outside the rules of the dimension itself?
Max pushed the thought aside for the time being and focused his attention on the creatures surrounding him.
They were unlike anything he had ever seen.
Their bodies were pitch black, absorbing even the faintest traces of light, and each of them stood on six thick, jointed legs that dug into the ground with unsettling stability. Yet they were not spiders.
Their upper bodies were grotesquely shaped, resembling a twisted fusion of beast and nightmare. Where a head should have been, there was a massive wolf-like maw that stretched unnaturally wide, lined with rows of jagged, uneven teeth that seemed to shift and grind against one another even when the creature remained still.
Their size alone was enough to instill dread, as each of them towered over him, their massive forms rivaling and even surpassing the bulk of an elephant. Their skin appeared slick and unnatural, as though it were made from a dark, pulsating substance rather than flesh, and faint distortions rippled across their bodies, making it difficult to focus on their exact shape.
From within those gaping maws came a low, guttural sound, something between a growl and a distant echo, as if their voices did not belong entirely to this world.
As they slowly closed in around him, the air itself seemed to grow heavier, and for the first time since arriving in this domain, Max felt a faint sense of unease settle deep within his heart.
"What are these beasts?" Max wondered, but the question barely had time to form before the creatures moved.
They lunged at him all at once.
Their massive bodies surged forward with terrifying speed, their six legs pounding against the ground as their grotesque wolf-like jaws opened wide, revealing rows of twisted, grinding teeth that seemed to hunger for flesh. A foul, suffocating aura spread from them as they closed in, as though they intended to tear him apart in a single instant.
Max's eyes turned cold.
In the next moment, his body ignited with black flames, and from those flames, countless swords took shape, each one burning with a dark and violent energy. The air trembled as the black flaming swords shot outward in all directions.
The instant the creatures reached him, the swords struck.
One after another, the monstrous beings were pinned to the ground, their massive bodies pierced and immobilized before they could even react.
Then—
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Explosions erupted one after another, shaking the battlefield as the black flaming swords detonated violently. Each blast tore through the creatures' bodies, reducing their grotesque forms to shattered remains engulfed in black fire.
This destructive effect came from the inheritance technique known as Black Flames Explosive Burst, a power that allowed anything formed from his black flames to detonate with devastating force.
As the smoke and dust gradually settled, silence returned to the battlefield.
Every single one of the creatures had been annihilated.
Although their numbers had been significant, their strength had only reached the Law Awakening Realm, which posed no real threat to the current Max.
"Devour," Max said calmly as he looked at the burning remains.
The black flames intensified, swallowing the corpses completely, and within moments, not a single trace of those creatures remained.
Almost immediately, Max felt something change within his body.
A strange and unfamiliar power stirred deep inside him.
He closed his eyes and focused inward, carefully observing the shift. That strange energy did not remain separate for long, as it was quickly drawn toward the Infernal Energy within him, merging with it and strengthening it in a noticeable way.
Max's eyes snapped open.
"Devouring these creatures can actually enhance my Infernal Energy?" he muttered in shock.
This was something he had never experienced before.
The Infernal Energy within him originated from the Infernal Demon Tattoo, a power given to him by Mark, who himself had been corrupted by the True Origin Devil Blood. Until now, that energy had remained constant, with no known method to directly increase or refine it.
Yet these creatures had changed that.
By devouring them, his Infernal Energy had grown stronger.
Max's expression slowly turned serious as a new thought emerged in his mind.
What exactly were these creatures?
"These creatures are connected to the devils," Max concluded, his eyes narrowing as his thoughts began to deepen. A more daring idea quickly followed. "If that is the case, then does it mean I can also increase the Infernal Energy within my body by devouring the devil corpses scattered across this battlefield?"
Although Max held a deep aversion toward the Infernal Energy within him, he could not deny that it had become a core part of his strength. Now that he had discovered a method to enhance it by devouring beings tied to devils, a spark of excitement rose within him despite his reservations.
