Chapter 1974: History of the Four Sacred Clans - 2

Chapter 1974: History of the Four Sacred Clans - 2

A wave of shock rolled through the arena.

"What?"

"The sacred legacy moved on its own?"

"How is that even possible?"

"Wasn’t it just an inheritance?"

The young geniuses of the Four Sacred Clans looked the most shaken. Cassian Valerius opened his eyes fully, his sacred solar aura unstable for the first time. Draven Ashbourne frowned deeply, his usual battle hunger replaced by solemn confusion. Seraphine Ravenhart’s silver-purple eyes shone with a strange light, as if the truth itself had disturbed the shadows around her. Aelric Evercrest, still injured and humiliated from his loss to Max, stared at the screen with a pale face.

The Voidwalker Ancestor continued, "For countless years, we protected the sacred legacy, yet it never once chose an inheritor. But in that era, for reasons even I never understood, the sacred legacy suddenly responded to the Voidwalker bloodline."

The starry screen showed several Voidwalker elders clutching their heads as the legacy’s light poured into their bodies.

"It didn’t just resonate with them. It influenced them. It called to them. It possessed them."

The four sacred clan platforms erupted in disbelief.

The Valerius leader’s face twisted. "Nonsense."

The Voidwalker Ancestor ignored him.

"Some members of the Voidwalker Clan were affected lightly. They heard whispers. They had dreams. They saw hidden doors in their bloodline. But others were pulled in much deeper. They started believing the sacred legacy didn’t belong under the Five Sacred Clans anymore. They believed it had chosen Voidwalker, and that if they didn’t take it, the chance would vanish forever."

On the screen, the ancient Voidwalker members moved under the legacy’s influence. They broke through several layers of the seal their own clan had helped maintain. Other Voidwalker members tried to stop them, but the sacred legacy’s light warped space and turned the entire platform into a maze of folded worlds.

The old man’s voice grew heavier.

"In the end, a group of Voidwalker clan members took the sacred legacy and fled."

The arena buzzed with murmurs. The image showed the five ancient platforms erupting into chaos. Valerius sacred fire rose into the sky. Ashbourne battle aura split the ground. Ravenhart shadows tried to trace the escape path.

Evercrest space roots sealed off countless directions. The Voidwalker platform tore itself apart as some Voidwalkers chased the thieves, some protected their clan members, and some just stood frozen in disbelief.

"The five clans were shocked," the Voidwalker Ancestor said. "The other four clans watched the sacred legacy vanish in the hands of Voidwalker members. They watched the very guardians closest to the seal break it. They watched the fifth clan become the path through which the legacy disappeared."

His eyes lowered faintly.

"At that time, even I believed the fault belonged to my own clan members."

Those words stunned everyone all over again.

Max’s dragon eyes narrowed slightly. The Voidwalker Ancestor wasn’t hiding his own past mistake.

"I believed those who took the legacy had betrayed the sacred pact. I believed they’d been overcome by greed, ambition, and bloodline pride. I believed the Voidwalker Clan had failed in its duty, and that our failure had nearly torn apart the Five Sacred Clans."

The starry screen showed battles breaking out across ancient domains. Voidwalkers got seized, sealed, hunted, interrogated, and imprisoned. Some resisted. Some surrendered. Some tried to explain that the legacy had called to them. Few people believed them.

"That belief," the old man said, "is what led to the imprisonment and sealing of the Voidwalker Clan."

Freya’s expression turned colder up in the sky. The thousands of Voidwalker descendants behind her let out a faint wave of restrained fury.

The old man continued, "I agreed to be sealed because I thought my clan had committed an unforgivable failure. I thought that if I resisted, the five clans would collapse completely. I thought accepting the seal would preserve the inheritance, protect the remaining bloodlines, and stop an all-out war."

His voice dropped even quieter.

"But time turned out to be a cruel teacher."

The starry screen faded a bit, leaving only the glow of the sacred legacy.

"Slowly, over the long years of being sealed, I started to think. I started to recall the faces of those who’d taken the sacred legacy. I remembered their eyes. Their fear. Their madness. Their devotion. Their pain. I remembered the way the sacred legacy moved before they ever did."

His eyes sharpened.

"And eventually, I began to wonder whether the real fault belonged not to my clan members, but to the sacred legacy itself."

A heavy silence spread. This time, even the four sacred ancestors didn’t rush to respond.

The younger geniuses of the Four Sacred Clans looked completely stunned. This wasn’t the history they’d been taught. They’d been told the Voidwalker Clan betrayed the First Progenitor and stole the sacred legacy. They’d been told the fifth clan was sealed because of greed.

They’d been told the four clans protected the world from traitors. Nobody had told them the sacred legacy might have influenced the Voidwalker Clan first. Nobody had told them the Voidwalker Ancestor himself once believed in the punishment. Nobody had told them the whole tragedy might have started because the sacred legacy wanted something.

Rose stared at the old man in disbelief.

Angelina Valerius stood silently, her eyes deep in thought.

Freya didn’t look surprised. Maybe she’d already known part of it. Maybe she’d carried this weight for a long time.

Max, though, was thinking about something else. The Dimensional Keeper legacy. The starry fist. The sealed worlds inside his body. The way the abandoned Voidwalker end had reacted to him. The way the First Progenitor’s statue had glowed. The way everyone kept repeating the words stolen sacred legacy.

A thought took shape in his mind.

’Could the Dimensional Keeper legacy be the sacred legacy of the First Progenitor?’

His dragon head lowered slightly as he looked at the Voidwalker Ancestor.

"What happened to the sacred legacy?"

His voice came out deep and heavy in his dragon form, rumbling across the arena. Everyone turned toward him. The question sounded simple, but it carried a thought many others hadn’t dared to voice.
