Chapter 2033: A Bronze Mark!
Chapter 2033: A Bronze Mark!
The six-headed wolf didn’t give him more time to think. All six of its heads roared at once. The sound shook the air, and a violent wave of killing intent rushed toward Max. In the next instant, the beast lunged forward with terrifying speed.
Its six legs pushed against the ground at the same time, cracking the pale yellow land beneath it as its huge body turned into a gray-crimson blur.
Max’s eyes stayed calm. He activated his Voidwalker Bloodline. In an instant, ten blue void rings appeared around his two arms. The rings rotated once around his wrists and forearms before flying out together.
They crossed the space between Max and the beast in a flash, circling the six-headed wolf before it could reach him. The beast was still mid-leap when the rings locked into place around it.
Space folded inward. A spherical seal formed instantly.
The six-headed wolf froze in the air less than a few feet from Max’s face. Its claws were still stretched forward, its jaws were still open, and its killing intent was still surging, but its body could no longer move.
The ten void rings rotated around the spherical seal, releasing layers of blue light that pressed down on its body, aura, bloodline, and Divine Lord Realm power.
Max studied the seal carefully. His brows furrowed slightly.
"I can feel the void rings straining to hold the seal."
The ten void rings were still holding, but the pressure showed. The six-headed wolf’s cultivation ran far above Max’s own realm, and although the Ten Void Sealing Art was powerful, the gap in cultivation couldn’t be completely ignored.
The beast’s Divine Lord Realm energy kept pushing against the seal from inside, causing faint ripples to appear across the blue sphere.
"Is it because I’m sealing something far above my cultivation realm?" Max muttered.
That seemed like the most likely reason. Against someone closer to his own level, the void rings could suppress almost effortlessly. But against a Divine Lord Realm beast, even a random one, the burden grew much heavier.
This was valuable information. It meant that inside the Godslayer’s Pilgrimage, he couldn’t rely on the Ten Void Sealing Art as carelessly as before against enemies far above his realm.
Still, the seal held enough.
Max raised one hand. Black flames rose from his palm. The flames looked dark, heavy, and devouring. Unlike the Primordial Flames, which refined and purified, these black flames existed to consume, corrode, and destroy.
Max flicked his fingers, and a thin stream of black fire entered the spherical seal formed by the ten void rings.
The moment the flames touched the trapped beast, they spread across its body. The six-headed wolf roared violently. Its Divine Lord Realm energy erupted, and the blue sealing sphere trembled more intensely.
But the void rings held firm. The black flames burrowed into the beast’s flesh, devoured its blood, consumed its energy, and burned through its life force. Within a few breaths, the massive creature that had lunged at Max with such ferocity got reduced to nothing but ashes inside the sealed space.
The ten void rings slowly returned to Max’s arms. The ashes scattered into the wind.
Max stood in place and sensed the change inside his body. A small portion of energy had gotten absorbed through the devouring nature of his flames, but the increase wasn’t much. His body felt slightly strengthened, and his energy grew a bit denser, but it fell far short of causing any major change.
"Only a small increase in strength," Max said with a wry smile. He shook his head. "Even devouring a 3rd level Divine Lord Realm beast isn’t enough to make me break through."
He felt a little disappointed, but not surprised. His foundation ran too strong. His body, bloodline, soul, Pseudo Cosmic Paths, Divine Veins, and several inheritances had pushed his base far beyond ordinary cultivators.
Because of that, ordinary energy gains no longer moved him forward easily. If he wanted to break through, he’d need far greater resources, deeper opportunities, or battles that forced his foundation to transform.
Just then, Max felt an itch on his right wrist. He lowered his gaze.
A faint bronze glow appeared on his skin. The glow slowly gathered into a mark. It formed a circular shape, and inside the circle sat the image of a sword pointing downward.
The mark looked simple at first, but when Max focused on it, he could feel a strange law hidden inside it. It wasn’t just a symbol. It was a record, a recognition, and maybe even a form of currency within the Godslayer’s Pilgrimage.
Max stared at the bronze mark for a moment. Then he smiled faintly.
"Is this the mark Big Sis told me about?"
Freya hadn’t explained the marks in much detail, but she’d told him one thing very clearly. Marks meant everything in the Godslayer’s Pilgrimage. Arvantos had also hinted at their importance before sending them in.
Marks could decide access, status, opportunities, rankings, exchanges, and even survival in certain places. Some trials required them. Some cities recognized them. Some inheritances demanded them. Some enemies hunted others precisely because of them.
Max lifted his wrist and looked at the bronze circle with the sword inside it.
"I need to know more about these marks," Max muttered as he kept staring at the bronze symbol on his wrist.
The mark didn’t feel ordinary. It wasn’t just something left behind after killing a beast. It had entered his skin without resistance, attached itself to his aura, and settled into his body as if the Godslayer’s Pilgrimage itself had acknowledged his kill.
The more Max sensed it, the more he realized the mark connected to some deeper rule of this place. It wasn’t an external reward handed out by a person, sect, or formation. It was part of the structure of the Godslayer’s Pilgrimage itself.
That made him even more curious.
Both Freya and Arvantos had mentioned marks before he entered, but neither of them had explained the details clearly. Freya had only told him marks were extremely important, while Arvantos had merely hinted that opportunities, status, and survival could depend on them.
Neither of them had gone further, and Max didn’t believe that was because they’d forgotten or wanted him kept in the dark.
There had to be a reason.
