Chapter 2034: Getting Robbed?
Chapter 2034: Getting Robbed?
"Restrictions," Max murmured.
That was the only explanation that made sense. If even someone as powerful as Arvantos, one of the four Primarchs of the Primordial Race, couldn’t freely explain the internal rules of this place, then the restrictions around the Godslayer’s Pilgrimage ran far more terrifying than Max had first assumed.
These rules weren’t something the current five universes had created. They were ancient, hidden, and strong enough to bind even the peak figures standing at the top of the Divine Realm.
This thought made Max’s eyes deepen. "This place really is special."
He lowered his wrist and kept following the faint traces he’d found earlier. The pale yellow land stretched endlessly around him. Dust moved with the wind, the blue sky stayed impossibly clear, and the sun and moon kept hanging together above the world like two silent watchers.
The deeper Max walked, the more he sensed that this land only looked empty on the surface. Beneath the silence, traces of danger sat everywhere.
The ground carried old blood aura in some places. The wind occasionally brought faint killing intent from far away. Somewhere beneath the pale soil, broken laws seemed to sleep in fragments.
Max kept walking for some time before his footsteps suddenly stopped. His gaze shifted slightly toward a cluster of large boulders ahead.
The boulders looked ordinary at first. They sat half-buried in the pale soil, weathered by wind, covered with dry cracks.
But Max’s perception ran far sharper than most cultivators at his realm. With the Dimensional Sovereign Body active, space itself revealed small irregularities to him. Behind one of those boulders, the flow of space was slightly distorted.
There were people hiding there.
Max’s expression stayed calm. "You three can come out now," he said.
His voice wasn’t loud, but it carried clearly across the empty land.
Nothing happened. The wind kept blowing. The boulders stayed still.
Max waited for two breaths, then sneered faintly. Black flames rose from his palm. He flicked his fingers, and a ball of devouring fire shot toward the largest boulder.
Before the black flames could touch it, three figures stepped out from behind the rocks. They stood tall and muscular, with dark gray skin, crimson lines crawling across their bodies, and sharp horns growing from their foreheads.
Their eyes glowed deep red, and their smiles carried a cruel hunger Max had already seen too many times from devils. Each of them wore dark armor made from some unknown beast hide and black metal, and all three carried weapons stained with old blood.
Devils.
Max looked at them silently.
The three devils didn’t seem surprised they’d been discovered. If anything, they looked amused.
"Hehe, this Primordial sensed us somehow," one of the devils said, glancing at the other two with a sneer.
Another devil laughed and licked his lips. "Good. Saves us the trouble of waiting. We finally caught ourselves a Primordial newbie."
The third devil looked Max up and down, his gaze lingering on Max’s wrist. When he saw the bronze mark there, his smile widened. "He’s already got a mark too. Not bad. Looks like this little Primordial killed something right after spawning."
Max’s eyes narrowed slightly. Spawning. So this area really was a place where newcomers appeared after entering the Godslayer’s Pilgrimage.
The first devil cracked his neck and stepped forward. "You’re unlucky, kid. This is one of the better newbie landing zones, and we’ve been guarding this area for a while now. Every time the entrance opens, a few fresh geniuses show up around here. Some carry treasures. Some carry marks. Some carry storage rings packed with treasures from their clans."
The second devil laughed. "Primordials are usually rich. Their bloodlines are useful too, even if they’re a pain to extract. Maybe this one’s worth more than the last angel brat we killed."
The third devil stared at Max with greed in his eyes. "Hand over your storage ring, your weapons, your mark, and whatever treasures you’re carrying. Cooperate, and maybe we’ll let you die quickly."
The three of them laughed together.
Max didn’t laugh. He sensed their auras clearly. All three devils sat at the 2nd level of the Divine Lord Realm. Out in the Divine Realm, that cultivation would’ve been more than enough to crush most people at his level.
Even inside the Godslayer’s Pilgrimage, they clearly weren’t weak among those who preyed on newly arrived geniuses. Their choice to hide near a landing zone was deliberate too. They weren’t here to explore trials or fight powerful enemies. They were here to ambush people who entered alone before they understood the rules of this place.
Max’s gaze turned colder. "You guard this area to rob and kill newcomers?"
The first devil grinned. "You say that like it’s a bad thing."
The second devil added, "In the Godslayer’s Pilgrimage, the weak exist to feed the strong."
The third devil raised his weapon. "And today, you’re the weak one."
Max sighed softly. "I see."
The three devils were still smiling when Max moved. There was no warning. No exchange of threats. Max had no interest in listening to them talk any longer.
Dragonheart appeared in his hand, and in the same instant, the aura around him changed completely. The pale yellow land seemed to lose its warmth. The wind went silent. Even the killing intent of the three devils froze for a brief moment, as if something had cut the emotions right out of the air itself.
The Emotion Severing Path erupted. But this time, Max didn’t use just a trace of it. He used its full power. His eyes turned calm to the point of coldness.
The first devil’s smile vanished. "What is this?"
He tried to retreat, but it was already too late.
Max stepped forward and swung Dragonheart once. The sword light wasn’t dazzling. It didn’t explode with thunder, flames, or overwhelming radiance. It came out quiet, pale, and terrifyingly clean.
Wherever it passed, killing intent disappeared. Fear disappeared. Anger disappeared. Even the devil’s instinctive urge to resist seemed to vanish for a single instant.
That single instant decided life and death. The sword light crossed the first devil’s neck. His head flew into the air.
