Chapter 2035: Five Types of Marks!
Chapter 2035: Five Types of Marks!
Before the body even hit the ground, Max had already appeared beside the second devil. The second devil roared and tried to activate his devil bloodline. Crimson tattoos lit up across his skin, and dark energy surged from his body like burning smoke.
But the moment the Emotion Severing Path came down on him, his roar weakened. His rage faded. His battle intent got sliced apart before it could fully form.
Max’s sword pierced through his chest. The power of the Emotion Severing Path flowed through the blade and spread through the devil’s body. The second devil froze. His eyes widened. Then the light in them dimmed as his soul, emotions, and life force all got severed together.
Two devils died almost instantly.
The third devil stood frozen in place. His weapon was still half-raised, but his body no longer dared move. Everything had happened too fast. One moment, the three of them were laughing about robbing a newly arrived Primordial.
The next moment, two of them were dead, and the young man they’d called weak stood right in front of him with a sword in hand.
The third devil’s face turned pale. Only now did he truly understand. This Primordial wasn’t prey. He was a monster.
Max appeared in front of him and placed Dragonheart against his throat. The cold edge of the sword touched the devil’s skin, and the lingering power of the Emotion Severing Path made his entire body tremble.
It wasn’t ordinary fear. It felt like something deep inside him was slowly getting stripped away, as if his courage, arrogance, and will to resist were being peeled from his soul layer by layer.
Max looked at him calmly. "Where’s the nearest city?"
The devil’s throat moved slightly. He wanted to speak, but his voice didn’t come out right away.
Max pressed the blade a little closer. A thin line of blood appeared on the devil’s neck.
"Answer," Max said. "And think carefully before you do."
The third devil swallowed hard.
Max’s eyes stayed cold. "If you lie to me, you won’t die like the other two."
The devil’s pupils contracted.
Max continued in the same calm voice, "They died fast. You won’t."
The devil’s body trembled harder. The two corpses beside him were still falling apart under the lingering power of Max’s sword. One had lost his head before he could even understand what happened.
The other had been pierced through the chest, his life erased so cleanly that even his devil energy couldn’t erupt properly. Compared to them, the third devil suddenly felt like death might have been mercy.
"I’ll talk," he said quickly, his voice hoarse. "I’ll talk. Don’t kill me."
Max didn’t move the sword away. "Nearest city."
The devil took a shaky breath and pointed toward the direction the faint footprints had been leading. "Keep going that way. There’s a city called Bloodstone City. It’s the nearest gathering place in this region. If you move at full speed, you can reach it in half a day. If you walk normally, it’ll take longer."
Max stared at him.
The devil quickly added, "I’m not lying. I swear I’m not lying. Everyone who spawns in this outer region tries to reach Bloodstone City first. It’s not safe, but it’s still better than wandering outside. There are traders there, information brokers, mark exchange halls, and people who know where the nearby trials are."
Max’s eyes moved slightly. Bloodstone City. Mark exchange halls. Information brokers. That was exactly the kind of place he needed.
He looked at the devil again. "What are marks used for?"
The devil hesitated for a brief moment. Max’s sword pressed slightly deeper. The hesitation vanished immediately.
"Everything," the devil said hurriedly. "Marks get used for everything. You need them to enter trials, buy information, exchange resources, rent cultivation rooms, enter some cities, and open certain inheritance grounds. They also decide your ranking and status in some places. Without marks, you’re nothing in the Godslayer’s Pilgrimage."
Max’s gaze deepened. Freya had been right. Marks truly were everything here.
The devil continued, afraid that silence would anger Max. "There are five types of marks in the Godslayer’s Pilgrimage. The first is the Bronze Mark. Every newcomer gets one when they enter, which is why it’s also called the beginner’s mark. The second is the Gold Mark. Above that sits the Sacred Mark. The fourth is the Divine Mark, and the last one is the Godslayer Mark."
Max glanced at the bronze sword mark on his wrist. "Only five?" he asked.
The devil nodded quickly. "Only five recognized grades. The gap between them is enormous. A Bronze Mark sits at the lowest, while a Godslayer Mark stands at the absolute peak. Most participants spend countless years struggling to advance even one grade. Plenty die before they can get a Gold Mark, and only a tiny number ever reach the Divine or Godslayer level."
Max’s eyes narrowed slightly. "How does someone get the higher marks?"
The devil’s expression turned solemn. "You can’t get them directly. You have to build up enough marks of the lower grade first."
"Explain."
"To become eligible for a Gold Mark, you need to collect one thousand Bronze Marks," the devil said. "Once you’ve gathered one thousand Bronze Marks, the rules of the Godslayer’s Pilgrimage let you condense them into a single Gold Mark."
Max’s gaze sharpened. "One thousand Bronze Marks for one Gold Mark?"
"Yes," the devil replied. "And the same rule applies at every level. After collecting one thousand Gold Marks, you become eligible to condense them into a Sacred Mark. Then you need to collect one thousand Sacred Marks to become eligible for a Divine Mark. Finally, after collecting one thousand Divine Marks, you can condense them into the highest grade, the Godslayer Mark."
Max stayed silent. The numbers were staggering. One thousand Bronze Marks for one Gold Mark. One thousand Gold Marks for one Sacred Mark. One thousand Sacred Marks for one Divine Mark. And one thousand Divine Marks for a single Godslayer Mark. The progression wasn’t just difficult. It was practically monstrous.
