Chapter 2042: Anna’s Plan!
Chapter 2042: Anna’s Plan!
Max nodded with understanding. That matched what he’d already guessed. The Godslayer’s Pilgrimage was too vast, and the entry process seemed to follow its own rules. It was already lucky that Damian and Revona had ended up in the same city as him.
He glanced around the mansion and asked, "So this place is the base for Primordials and humans from our universe?"
Anna nodded. "Yes. More precisely, this is the Bloodstone City base for participants from the Primordial Universe. Primordials, humans, and a few other races connected to our side can come here for help. If you need information, temporary lodging, basic supplies, introductions, or guidance, you can come here. As long as the request isn’t too outrageous, most people here will be willing to help."
"I see," Max said.
At least now he had a proper foothold in Bloodstone City. That beat wandering around blindly and relying on a terrified devil for every scrap of information.
After thinking it over, Max turned toward the entrance. "Then I’ll go to the information hall of Bloodstone City now."
He’d barely taken a step when Anna suddenly reached out from behind, grabbed his collar, and pulled him back.
Max nearly stumbled.
"Where the hell are you going?" Anna asked, her earlier polite smile gone in an instant.
Max turned his head and looked at her with a wry smile. "To the information hall."
"I heard you the first time," Anna said, her expression turning solemn. "But do you understand what’ll happen if you go there openly?"
Max didn’t answer right away.
Anna pointed at him and continued, "You’re only at the 1st level of the Law Manifestation Realm. The moment you step into the information hall, plenty of people will notice you. That place isn’t like this base. Participants from all five races go there. Information brokers, scouts, hunters, faction members, and people looking for easy prey all keep their eyes on newcomers. Once word gets out that a Law Manifestation Realm Primordial has entered Bloodstone City, your existence will spread fast."
Her tone grew heavier. "And when that happens, you’ll be as good as dead."
Max looked at her calmly. "I have to go there, Anna."
Anna frowned. "Why?"
"I’m new here," Max replied. "I need to understand the situation in Bloodstone City, the outer layer, the nearby trials, the mark system, and the route toward the inner layer. I heard the information hall’s the best place for newcomers to learn the basics."
"That’s true," Anna admitted.
She let go of his collar, but her expression stayed tense. She looked at Max for a moment, then fell into thought. Her brows furrowed slightly, and her fingers tapped against her arm, as if she were quickly weighing a few options. A few breaths later, her eyes lit up.
Then she clapped her hands once. "I think I’ve got a plan."
Max raised a brow. "A plan?"
Anna pointed at him with a serious face. "You. Stay here."
Max blinked.
"Don’t move," Anna continued. "Don’t wander outside. Don’t go to the information hall on your own. Don’t let some devil, dragon, angel, spirit, or even a bored Primordial drag you into trouble. I’ll be right back."
Max raised both hands slightly. "I’m not going anywhere."
"Good," Anna said.
Without another word, she turned and vanished deeper into the mansion.
Max watched her leave, then shook his head with a faint smile. ’Wonder what kind of plan she’s got.’
Since Anna had clearly told him to wait, Max didn’t try to leave. Instead, he started wandering slowly through the main hall of the mansion.
The interior turned out much bigger than it looked from outside. The hall stretched wide and bright, with pillars made of pale gold stone supporting a high ceiling engraved with faint primordial runes.
Several counters lined the sides, where participants talked with attendants about missions, marks, injuries, lodging, and information. A few groups sat around stone tables, quietly going over maps and routes. Others stood near floating screens displaying notices about nearby trials, dangerous zones, recent deaths, and faction movements.
Max took it all in carefully. Most of the people inside were Primordials, but there were also quite a few humans. Unlike the nervous newcomers outside, the participants here looked more experienced.
Their auras stayed stable, and their eyes carried the caution of people who’d survived the Godslayer’s Pilgrimage long enough to understand its cruelty.
Max silently checked their cultivation levels. The result wasn’t surprising, but it still gave him something to think about.
Most of the participants here sat at the 8th, 9th, or 10th level of the Divine Lord Realm. A smaller number sat at the middle levels of the Divine Lord Realm. As for those at the early levels, Max only spotted a few.
Law Manifestation Realm cultivators were almost nonexistent.
That alone explained Anna’s reaction. In this place, his cultivation realm wasn’t merely low. It was abnormal.
Even Anna herself had reached the 10th level of the Divine Lord Realm. Her aura had felt gentle when she greeted him, but thinking it over now, she was actually one of the stronger participants in this base. If she’d still stayed in the outer layer after three years at that cultivation, entering the inner layer clearly ran far harder than he’d imagined.
’Looks like all of them have spent a good number of years in the outer layer,’ Max thought.
That was the only reasonable explanation. These people hadn’t entered the Godslayer’s Pilgrimage yesterday. They’d survived, fought, cultivated, gathered marks, and slowly pushed themselves toward the peak of the Divine Lord Realm. Yet even then, most of them hadn’t made it into the inner layer.
The outer layer wasn’t a beginner area in any simple sense. It was a cruel filter. Only those strong enough, cautious enough, and lucky enough could even dream of moving forward.
As Max kept observing the hall, several Primordials and humans noticed him too. Their reactions all played out nearly the same way. First, they sensed the Primordial aura on him. Then they sensed his cultivation.
After that, their expressions turned strange. Some looked confused. Some frowned. Some whispered to their companions. A few nodded politely once they realized he belonged to their side, but even they couldn’t hide the doubt in their eyes. Clearly, they were all wondering the same thing.
How had someone at the Law Manifestation Realm gotten into the Godslayer’s Pilgrimage?
Max ignored their stares. He’d already gotten used to this kind of reaction. In the Divine Realm, people had underestimated him because of his age, background, realm, or lack of reputation.
Here, they’d underestimate him because his cultivation sat far below the common standard of the outer layer. That was fine. Sometimes being underestimated worked out better than being feared.
Still, Anna was right about one thing. If too many people learned about him too fast, trouble would come.
