Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4542: Reuniting With Isabella

Chapter 4542: Reuniting With Isabella

“Mother!”

“My child!”

Celestia called out from the distance, her eyes moist.

Abruptly, Isabella shook. She dared not look but couldn’t help but swivel her head towards her little child. At that moment, her heart went through tumultuous emotions. The little girl who always listened to her was now a full-fledged woman. It had been so many years that it was no longer the voice of her cute child but the melodious voice of a woman.

Davis moved aside, looking at the two of them.

He knew they had a lot to catch up on and perhaps a fight to settle.

Both of them rushed at each other and abruptly embraced, tears flooding down their faces.

“Mother, I missed you so much~”

“I’m sorry… I’m sorry, Celestia. Mother missed you, too.”

Celestia’s soft arms trembled as she clung to Isabella, the warmth of her mother’s embrace a sensation she thought she would never feel again. Years of worry, longing, resentment, and aching guilt melted into tears that soaked into her mother’s golden robes.

Isabella held her daughter tightly, burying her face in Celestia’s soft hair as if trying to absorb the years they had lost. Her fingers trembled against Celestia’s back, her emotions making her heart throb with pain and happiness.

“My sweet child… you’ve grown so much…” Isabella’s voice cracked, each syllable laced with the weight of regret, “I wasn’t there… when you needed me the most…”

Celestia shook her head furiously, her tears sparkling in the stormlight, “No…! I, I understand, Mother. You… you had your reasons… I only… I only wanted to see you again…”

The thunder above roared like a grieving beast, and yet the river of sound essence below hummed softly, as if encompassing this reunion in a world of its own, a world belonging to a mother and a daughter.

Davis stood a distance away, his heart heavy yet warm. He knew this was their moment. He did not allow anyone to dare interrupt it, even as Evelynn and the others stood in the distance as they watched over them.

Even Lyra Mistwalker and the other Mistwalkers were caught while he went to meet Isabella. It seemed like there was no need to worry, but he still swept his soul sense for any assassins and dangers.

When at last, the storm in their hearts calmed, Celestia stepped back slightly, wiping at her tear-streaked face with a small, embarrassed smile. Her gaze softened as it flickered to her father, a wordless acknowledgment passing between them.

Mother was indeed fine. She didn’t have to blame her father anymore for not making her return, no matter what.

“Go,” she whispered to her mother, “Be with him. You… you deserve this happiness after a long time, Mother. I’ll… wait for you.”

Isabella’s heart quivered at her daughter’s maturity, a pang of bittersweet emotion flooding her chest. She hesitated, then reached out to caress Celestia’s cheek, the tip of her thumb caressing her face, “I will never leave you again… I swear it.”

“Mhm~” Celestia sniffled, “That’s not what I want as an adult, but I’ll entertain you for a few years~”

“Silly child…”

Isabella also returned the laugh lightly, her heart full of warmth.

As Celestia retreated toward the riverbank, the winds picked up, carrying away the faint scent of rain and sound essence. Isabella turned to Davis, her golden robe fluttering against the thunderous skies. The exhaustion of emotions and years of suppressed longing softened her regal demeanor.

Without a word, Davis stepped forward and pulled Isabella into his embrace.

The world seemed to hush for them. Lightning flashed in the distance, illuminating the canyon in silvery light. Isabella melted into his arms, her head resting against his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat over the echoes of thunder.

“You did well,” Davis murmured, stroking her purple hair as the wind tousled it, “Both as a mother… and as the woman I love.”

Isabella looked at him with upturned eyes, “I was afraid you would yell at me for not coming home…”

“Of course, I have thought about it numerous times, but…” Davis’s smile turned wry, “I couldn’t after seeing you like this, especially since you all appear to have split.”

“…” Isabella blushed, “Because we were too strong, it was not efficient to travel together. They could’ve picked us apart, but even that was a question since we grew too strong.”

“Mhm, I can sense it…” Davis reached his hand out, caressing her head, “You have far surpassed the Isabella who went out to adventure.”

Isabella couldn’t help but smile behind her veil, “Would you believe me if I said that I learned Chaos Laws even before I digested Mira’s blood essence?”

“I believe you.” Davis turned to look around the bubbles, “Resonance Returns to the Source, you used Rumbling Laws to shatter the energy inside and reform it back into the sound essence underneath us, which is an application of chaos that even I couldn’t imitate unless the energy belongs to me. For you to do it to unrestrained and wild energy, it requires utter precision up to the micro level in order to shatter and reform a single strand of energy…”

His gaze was full of surprise and pride, “No wonder the Mistwalkers didn’t dare use their formations on you. You’d dismantle the formation just by slapping over the barrier and causing it to crumble as you destroy the runes even as they are firmly and perfectly attached to the space.”

Isabella giggled. She sensed Lyra Mistwalker in the flying boat above.

She knew she was being tailed but paid little attention since it was mostly to stay away from her. It had been a long time since someone dared to attack her. Even the local spirits knew to stay clear of her just by feeling the aura of the terrifying dragon inside her.

Thinking about the flying boat, Isabella couldn’t help but ask, “How are the others? I need to go see them.”

She was about to turn away when Davis embraced her again and kissed the top of her head.

He let silence speak for him. The river beneath them bubbled gently, as if the spheres themselves understood the serenity between the storm and the sky.

“You’re such a spoiled baby~”

“That indeed- I am.” Davis nodded literally.

He waved his hand, concealing themselves and left.

Somewhere in this thunderous region.

They lay back against a smooth cave that jutted over the canyon, their robes stuck to the cliff, billowing in the wind. Isabella snuggled closer to him, their warmth a heartening sanctuary against the roaring skies.

Davis’s arm draped around her waist, his thumb absentmindedly brushing her silky smooth skin.

Up above, lightning carved rivers of light through the clouds, but here, in each other’s arms, they felt utterly satisfied.

“Sleep. You deserve it.” Davis caressed her head as his fingers brushed against her purple hair.

Isabella let her eyes drift closed, listening to the deepness of his voice as he murmured, “As long as I’m by your side, no storm in this world can harm you.”

“Mhm~”

It had been three days since they arrived here, but Davis wanted Isabella to have more downtime. Being alone for a few years after she separated from Shirley, he doubted she slept. She worked hard for the family, collecting hundreds of Primarch Grade resources. Now she no longer needs to be separated from her family, able to sleep peacefully.

He remained by her side, tousling her hair and caressing her mature and satisfied face for a while until he also slumbered with her.

They woke up a day later.

NOTE:

My mom is in critical condition in the hospital. It is quite serious enough to end badly, so I won’t be able to write for the next day and after properly.

I’m not even in the mood to focus.

Don’t buy privilege next month since I can’t assure you that the novel will have a stable release of chapters. I will be busy for the next week taking care of mom, so chap counter will be paused.
