Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4686 Dangerous Encounter?

Chapter 4686  Dangerous Encounter?

The Eternal Eclipse Bird glided across the vast skies of the Shard Continent. The skies were of a dazzling golden and silver-white, the suns and moons lighting up the sky into a dreamy world, yet the dangers of this place were no less than finding oneself suddenly faced with a being that they couldn't beat.

While many were moving underneath the mountains and using the shadows of the sprawling forests as cover, Davis and Myria, who were mounted on the Eternal Eclipse Bird, flew into the skies. If it weren't for the Eternal Eclipse Bird's concealment skill, it might've attracted some ruthless or brainless calamity every few million kilometers.

Fortunately, Davis was highly experienced in traversing various terrains. Once he charted a route ahead, it would be difficult to trap him, and since he had already gone through the route between the Wrathful Aeons Shard Region's entrance and the Luminous Rage Shard Region's entrance multiple times, he was already aware of the nearby dangers.

Having a vantage point really changed things.

"It really left…" Myria commented when they crossed the False Dawn Harbinger's place.

"Truly…" Davis had an expression that said that he was disappointed, "If it remained and I managed to hunt it down, I would've been able to give Niera a suitable gift."

"Mhm… light-fire… It's similar. Needless to say, I think Niera managed to fuse light and fire."

"Yes…" Davis possessed a prideful expression on his face, "That was quite obvious. Her flames were fused passively with light similar to the Empyrean Solar Phoenix Spirit. Perhaps, Niera wouldn't have been able to convince Reignisia if it weren't for Niera showing her capability to satisfy Reignisia's exact energy needs."

"Indeed." Myria's heavenly eyes gently fluttered with a gaze tinged with awe, "Binding with an Empyrean Grade Heaven-Tier Spirit is quite the extravagant feat enough to bring glory and fame in any place, even in a Greater Realm. Niera had not only done it, but it's the first-ranked flame spirit, which rarely anybody have managed to court. Moreover, she went one step further, managing to inherit the spirit's bloodline, which I dare say nobody in history has done. This spirit is simply too rare, capable of exceeding Celestial Spirits in rarity."

Davis nodded, smiling, "It's a pity that we didn't see the fusion of her Laws. We'll see it next time."

"Mhm." Myria also wanted to see.

However, they were in a hurry to confirm the safety of Bylai and the others.

Even if divination told them that there was nothing to worry about, they couldn't just sit and enjoy while waiting for them to come back.

The Eternal Eclipse Bird flew past the Luminous Rage Shard Region.

From here on out, it was uncharted territory for Davis, even though he had the map path to the Mountain-Sea Painting Shard Region. He slowed down the Eternal Eclipse Bird significantly, flying at an ordinary pace befitting of twice or thrice the speed of those who were making their way below.

The two of them saw more Void Calamities and Realm Calamities.

Sometimes, they stopped to see what was going on with some particular calamity if it caught their interest.

These calamitous lifeforms manifested strange Laws which, if they could be observed, would benefit their Law Comprehension ability many times. However, peering into them came at a cost since they could easily find themselves in a daze and eaten by the calamity. Some calamities were predatory, like the Void Slime Realm Eater that allowed people to research the runes in its body, but while they were doing it, it would expand and engulf them whole.

They eventually came across a desolate stretch of land where the light itself seemed to have been fractured. The golden and silver hues of the sky could barely pierce through the distortion that hung over this region like rippling glass. The ground below was a wasteland of jagged peaks and melted terrain, glowing faintly as though a cataclysmic firestorm had swept through recently.

"The aftermath of a peak Mid Stage Realm Calamity?" Myria's tone was calm, but her eyes narrowed.

"Yes," Davis said solemnly as he checked out the map, "There are desert storms once in a while. If caught within, even Peak Empyreans could perish. Fortunately, there are many safe passageways, desert canyons that block the firestorm that occasionally erupts. Fairy Thunderblaze should fancy this place, but I assume what she got is much more fascinating than the remnant of this once dreadful battle."

Myria's gaze thoroughly etched the landscape into her mind.

Many of these canyons are actually also headed to lairs that were occupied by other calamities. However, most of the supreme geniuses were traveling in a safe intersection. On the other hand, since they were traversing on the Eternal Eclipse Bird, they need not worry about having to go through such paths that looked like they were designed for rats to navigate.

It took them nearly six hours to close the distance to the destination, which was shorter than the distance between the earlier two Shard Regions..

Compared to supreme geniuses who had to traverse slowly, take detours, and go through difficult, winding, and narrow terrains, they were fast. Even though they had considerably slowed down the Eternal Eclipse Bird, they had still gotten way earlier than those who had set off three days ago.

Just as they spotted the spatial vortex nestled in a honeybee-like comb structure that Davis and Myria guessed had to do with how the Shard Regions were shaped and situated in the Shard World, darkness abruptly enveloped the world.

It fell like a curtain drawn across the world, instantly plunging Davis and Myria into a dark world.

Davis instantly took out the Cursed Artifact: Malevolent Demon Erasure Fan in reaction. It was too sudden that he quickly went on full alert on extreme retaliation mode, and just as he expected, Exalt-level undulations brimmed like a tide smashing against the mountain.

The Eternal Eclipse Bird screeched softly, its feathers bristling in alarm as shadows began to reach out and coil around it. Each strand of shadow was like a tentacle, formless and flexible as they moved, breathed, and coiled as though they had their own sentience. These tentacles coiled around its wings, disallowing it to maneuver away.

Then from that living shroud emerged a black-skinned woman who was veiled in darkness. Each step in the air she made resonated with the surrounding heaven and earth energy, unleashing faint ripples of silvery shadowlight. Her form was both ethereal and imposing, clothed in a mantle woven of midnight feathers that swayed like ink.

Her dress was sleek and obsidian. Her hair was a cascade of deep black gloss, reflecting faint white highlights as it framed a face that seemed sculpted from starlit dusk. Her eyes were twin foggy abysses, able to deeply entrance a soul.

From her back flowed several tendrils of darkness, graceful yet unnerving, moving like extensions of her Will.

'A darkness Exalt Spirit…!'

Davis's mind reeled.

He wasn't surprised to see one since he had seen the Void Reflection Palace's Zealots cooperate with an Exalt-level spirit. However, this spirit, despite being at Level One Exalt Stage, gave him an undefeatable sensation.

Undoubtedly, this spirit's prowess was at least at the Mid Stage Exalt level, probably at the peak or more.

"Are you… Master Davis, the Divine Emperor of Death…?"

Suddenly, a soft, inquiring exhale emerged from the sea of darkness ahead.

"…!" Davis was stunned.

Myria was also in a similar mindspace, the two of them thinking when and where this spirit learned about him.

Did it learn from hunting the supreme geniuses who came here? Or was it here from another galaxy using another strange means unknown to them?

But at this moment, something clicked in Davis as he saw this spirit. The mantle of feathers that appeared to be a part of her clothing but in fact, it was part of her body, was quite striking, making him remember.

"You are Rioxys Plume?" He asked, part eagerly and part anxious.

If she was not who he thought she was, then the next moment was undoubtedly Fallen Heaven's turn.

The darkness spirit maintained an indifferent yet wary expression as she cast a strange gaze at the fan. However, she nodded, "So it really is Master Davis. Elder sister Bylai and the others are waiting for you inside."

She gestured towards the Mountain-Sea Painting Shard Region's spatial vortex.

"Unfortunately, I can't get in anymore, but what I can do is eliminate or turn away any danger as I see fit. Of course, my other task is to wait for your arrival and inform you of their precise location."

"…"

Davis and Myria were thoroughly dumbfounded.

Back then, Isabella and Shirley had written them letters early into the expedition to the secret realm.

In one of those letters, they described befriending two spirits, even saving one from a Realm Calamity like the Nefarious Darkwill Rakshasa. It was a little darkness spirit. Now, that little darkness spirit had not only grown into a striking black beauty, but it was also an Exalt Spirit with a terrifying prowess, currently roaming- no, guarding the gate to the Mountain-Sea Painting Shard Region in the Shard Continent of all places.

At this moment, it dawned on them.

If Rioxys Plume was already at this level, then the Grand Geocrest Metal Spirit whom Bylai had taken a liking to must already be at the same level or almost caught up to this darkness spirit, which meant that it must at least be at the Peak-Level Empyrean Spirit Stage in terms of prowess!

Davis and Myria looked at each other, catching the realization in each other's eyes.

It was no wonder Tia's divination didn't catch any danger when she divined about Bylai and the others' safety.

They had miscalculated, thinking Bylai's group was the weakest out of the three groups, but it turns out that they were the strongest!
