Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4712 Ghost Land

Chapter 4712  Ghost Land

A chilling gust swept past them, carrying with it a faint, wailing murmur that seemed to echo from beneath the ground or the sky. The yin energy around them thickened, congealing into a cold mist that coiled about their ankles like unseen hands reaching out from the earth.

Davis's gaze narrowed as he extended his soul sense forward, but it was instantly distorted, rippling as though it had touched a veil of water. It was like he was in a swamp, making him understand his soul sense was restricted here. It was as he heard.

Then, from within the haze, shadows began to rise.

They did not emerge from the ground nor descend from the sky; rather, they bled into existence as pale silhouettes formed out of the dense, gloomy space, flickering in and out as though struggling to remain in this plane. Their eyes, hollow and faintly crimson, glowed with unspent resentment.

A deep, echoing groan resonated through the desolate field.

Fairy Thunderblaze lifted her hand, lightning flaring briefly along her fingertips, illuminating the ghastly scene. Dozens of spectral figures drift over the blood-soaked land. Some still bore the phantom images of weapons lodged into their bodies; others had twisted, distorted forms as though trapped mid-scream.

"…Ghosts," she muttered, her tone turning solemn, "They actually exist… so many…"

Davis's expression turned half-amused and breathless, "Woah… if my wives saw them, at least half of them would turn around and scream for their lives."

"On the other hand," He turned to look at Fairy Thunderblaze.

She was not shaken at all.

Since both of them were from the First Haven World, where ghosts had nearly no chance to form because of the Laws governing that world, they hadn't seen one before. But here, they existed in droves.

"You want me to act like a little lass here?" Fairy Thunderblaze shot him a look back before turning her gaze at them.

"Let's not kill them. Doing so will undoubtedly attract more attention. We can't get besieged and delay this expedition. You also don't want to be delayed, don't you?"

Davis nodded.

He couldn't wait to go back to his wives and see Aila. If she hadn't been behind that barrier, she really would've become his woman. He could no longer wait.

As they spoke, the ghosts began to converge, drawn to their warmth, their life force. The air itself shivered, and faint whispers brushed against their ears, voices overlapping in grief and rage.

"Leave… leave this place…"

"The Calamity… befalls everyone…"

"Our blood… was assimilated…"

They floated near them and looked like they were about to get aggressive.

But suddenly, they all touched the ground as they prostrated and bowed towards them.

Fairy Thunderblaze narrowed her eyes. Her figure disappeared with a golden spark, reappearing a few meters away. However, she saw they didn't turn her way. They all prostrated themselves to Davis, appearing to be reverent.

"…" She couldn't believe her eyes.

Davis was also stunned.

Why were these ghosts kneeling to him?

'Are they sincerely pleading for me to leave, or is it because of my Ghost Will?' Davis wondered.

However, he didn't have Ghost Will right now. It was something that was produced after he died. At this point in his cultivation, he lacked the method to actively use his Ghost Will. All he had was his alive and kicking Will that was as good as the Ghost Will.

However, he didn't think a living Will was enough to command subservience from these ghosts.

Davis soon arrived at the answer, "Oh."

He guessed they were just reacting to the aura of his soul, which more or less carried reincarnation energy. It was their bane but also their boon. Combined with the remnant aura of the Ghost Will on him after the nine reincarnations, they might've instinctively recognized him as a superior ghost in the Reincarnation Dimension.

In that case, he felt that this unforeseeable action of theirs made sense.

"Stand up. Tell me what's going on."

The ghosts listened to him and stood up, causing Fairy Thunderblaze to be even more shocked.

However, the ghosts didn't open their mouths. They just looked at Davis in confusion.

"Did you not hear me?" He repeated the words but still received no response, causing Davis to learn that they were just roaming spirits, their intellects at the level of an instinctual lifeform. But still, he was speechless since they were strong.

In this group alone, the weakest appeared to be at the Level Nine Immortal Emperor Stage and the strongest at the Level Six Empyrean Stage. The latter appeared to be a human guard with a translucent bloody sword stabbed into his translucent skull.

He felt they must've become ghosts sometime after their death and remained that way.

Otherwise, he had heard that they would have their own conscious Ghost Will since they would be intelligent and become able to cultivate. Back then, he had heard for them to cultivate even required for them to hunt down their next incarnation so that they could retain their undead lives and even become the living again.

For such ghosts, the Heavenly Ghost Crow was their natural predator since their ability to curse allowed them to end the ghosts' existence.

Nonetheless, most of them were unverified rumors to him.

He would have to encounter a real ghost cultivator to verify these claims.

Coincidentally, there seemed to be a human group with a ghostly aura that arrived here months before them. The spirits in the south whom they had talked to said that they came from the Myriad Coiling Spirit Peak but were outsiders. With the help of ferries, they arrived here. Since that was the case, Davis imagined that they must be from a power that allows ghost cultivators to be nurtured.

He didn't think there existed any in the Celestial Transcendent Galaxy, but they might exist in other galaxies.

He recognized one such power because he had to be careful about them and their vile practices since they were from the Nine-Headed Hydra Galaxy and possibly roaming the Mountain-Sea Painting Shard Region.

They were called the Silent Wraith Hall. Together with the Demonheart Shadow Palace, they created a fearsome combo of ghost cultivators and corpse cultivators working together to seal most weaknesses the two undead creatures displayed.
