Chapter 4917 At An Impasse?
Chapter 4917 At An Impasse?
Eventually, after all the rage swelled in him, Davis released a breath, knowing what could've gone through their hearts while he wasn't there for them.
He rolled up the scroll and walked to Evelynn, making her stand up after he grabbed her shoulders and patted her robe over her knees that had gotten dirty.
"It's my fault. It's not something you need to beat yourself over."
He hugged Evelynn, making her quiver ever so lightly.
"You too, Isabella… Shirley…"
"…"
Isabella and Shirley smiled lightly, their eyes moist.
Davis let Evelynn go and looked at the closed scroll, his mind trying to imagine the scene they described.
It seemed like Natalya was somehow able to witness her Will, which he had summoned from his own Will, helping him.
How she managed to see that across such an extreme distance remains a mystery to him, shrouded in fog. He felt like it must be because she was using ink used in divinations that she accidentally had a visual premonition of her helping him, and she acknowledged it instead of staying silent, causing the heavens to strike her.
Then-
"You're not angry anymore…?" Evelynn asked.
Davis came out of his reverie before he gazed at her, "I'm super angry, but it doesn't help Natalya in any way, and I'll just end up being sad if I so much as say some hurtful words to you. It's just, next time something like this happens, you should tell it to me as soon as possible."
Evelynn bit her lips, half-smiling, half-serious.
"No, it's as Natalya said, this family doesn't serve any purpose without you, so your mental realm needs to be safeguarded from vulnerability. We knew the moment we told you this news, you might abandon everything else that might be on your mind to visit her. It is both dangerous-"
"Alright, alright. It's been a while since the first wife chastised me, right?"
Davis spread his hands, causing everyone to giggle while Evelynn poutingly glared at him.
He chuckled, "But really… this family is more than me or us. We have our legacies and will continue to have more."
"..."
"Besides, Natalya wasn't delusional. She really did help me in my tribulation."
"…!?"
The atmosphere that just bloomed with his unconcerned yet caring attitude instantly went silent.
"I was really helpless- literally too lazy to move. If someone else appeared, I don't know if I could've easily come out of that technique." Davis worded it vaguely with a vague smile on his face.
He didn't even expose the Sky Word Emperor appearing in his tribulation, much less the Seraphim Ancestor.
However, Illumina knew, but even she was confused as to what happened since she didn't know what kind of battle had taken place in Davis's mental realm.
"What do you mean?" Evelynn couldn't suppress her curiosity.
"You don't need to know." Davis flicked his sleeve, "It's partly my fault, so as I said, you don't need to beat yourself over it."
"…"
Before Evelynn could retort, Davis continued, "Still, it seems like Azariel saved you by being level-headed."
"…"
Evelynn held her tongue, retreating a bit before she blushed, "He has grown into a fine man. He even told me, his mother, to shut up…"
"Hahaha!"
Davis roared with laughter. If it was anytime else, he would've made an example of Azariel for disrespecting his mother, but this time around, he wanted to place his son on a pedestal. What kind of amazing level-headedness did he need to have in order to move under the extraordinary pressure of the Desolate Heavenly Tribulation?
He even shielded his mother with his life!
Davis was jubilant to hear Azariel's achievement and felt like he should reward him, but more than anything, he was deeply satisfied that his Azariel did indeed grow into a cunning yet fine man. Davis knew Azariel's ability to throw schemes wasn't subpar and could even rival his own as long as he adventured a lot, but he never expected his courage to surpass his expectations.
He nodded with satisfaction, "I was also thinking of writing our son's name into the history of our family for helping me decide a wonderful spot to undergo my tribulation, so Natalya must be 'awakened' as soon as possible."
"Agreed~"
Mingzhi and the others agreed. The former gave a thumbs up, "I wasn't there at that time, so it was good that Azariel was able to protect her. Thankfully, Natalya's body also seemed to be reconstructed by some kind of heavenly phenomenon."
Davis nodded to Mingzhi's words. He heaved a sigh of relief, "For better or worse."
"Fiora, you seemed to be genuinely unaware. Ellia too. Your memories are intact, right?" He then turned to look at Fiora, his eyes squinting.
"Yes," Fiora bit her lips, her emotions unwell. Why do bad things keep happening to her and her sister?
"Mhm…" Ellia pursed her lips.
While she was busy with Lydia, a heaven-shaking matter had occurred in their family.
"Indeed, they weren't there, so we had no need to seal their memories." Evelynn cleared the situation for them.
Davis heaved an immense sigh of relief, "So it's safe to assume Lydia's memories weren't tampered with. It's good. If Tia had accidentally forced her, then she might've decided to skip into the reincarnation cycle."
"…!" Some of them just realized, causing them to react with a flinch.
Fiora and Ellia were shaken. Meanwhile, Mingzhi smirked, "I wasn't there, but I was made aware of the incident. But before I got my memories sealed voluntarily, I warned them not to tamper with anyone else's memories, even if they were curious about the heavenly lightning bolt that struck the mansion."
"Indeed, Lydia was with us at that time…" Fiora pointed to Ellia, "We did hear a tremendous sound among the rumbling, but since there were no casualties… we thought it just struck some furniture as Mingzhi said…"
"Mingzhi… you're a genius…" Shirley praised her.
Mingzhi appeared ever more smug. Her nose appeared to grow larger as she felt like she was trusted on all levels.
It made her feel like the big sister everyone asked for advice from. However, she blinked, thinking it didn't feel right because she was working day and night, rarely having any time to herself.
Was she being goaded into working hard?
"Hehem." Davis coughed, bringing their attention back, "We now have two issues at hand. I cannot see Natalya, which is unfair. I need to meet Lydia and confirm her intent and possibly continue to treat her as our daughter if nothing is wrong, but how could nothing be wrong? Dammit, this is…"
He raised his hand as his arm shook before he took a deep breath, relaxing himself again.
"So what is this Heavenly Restriction Pact… is about?"
