He remained silent, and his presence appeared rather heavy, finally causing Claire to open her eyes and search for him as her trembling came to a stop. When she saw how he looked, her heart writhed with pain as she realized she had acted hastily.

"I know…" Davis raised his head, his expression turning normal before revealing a wry smile, "I shouldn't have made certain decisions, crossed certain boundaries… and now, even my own mother has lost trust in my character in this regard…"

"No, it's not like that!" Claire reached out her hand before she hurriedly closed the distance and hugged him from the side, "I was wrong… It's a misunderstanding… You closed the door on me without any warning and held my hand with an unexpected fervor…"

He felt Laura was also similar in this regard, although she was Logan and Nora's child.

Suddenly, Davis felt his hand turn wet.

His mother was crying now, making his heart churn with sorrow.

She sobbed in his palm, nearly screaming as she was full of self-reproach for not averting this kind of relationship between Evan and Laura.

Davis slowly made her sit down and comforted her by holding her hands firmly. She pounced towards him, crying on his shoulder, unable to stop her trembling.

"I knew… I always knew they were close… but I didn't expect… they would really take it that far…"

Davis caressed his mother's head softly, "There's nothing we could do after they've done it."

Claire cried out loud, causing Davis to put up a sound barrier. He knew he should've done this first, for heaven's sake.

Claire nodded lightly before she asked, "Did you… Did you tell this to your father and Nora?"

"They can't know. Otherwise, Evan will be killed by the two of them." Claire looked horrified.

Evan was also her son. How could she not care?

"Ma, the way I see it, Laura was the one who possibly seduced him since I saw a great deal of possessiveness from her, not that it takes away any wrongdoing from Evan, but I dare say Evan didn't start it. Davis knew his mother was lying over the disown part, causing him to shake his head, since the chances are she would likely imprison them for who knows how long until one or the other changes their minds.

He felt like his mother would never let go.

"I'll try my best." He said with a renewed perspective and turned around to leave.
