Chapter 1724: O’ Eternal Ruler of Eden

Chapter 1724: O’ Eternal Ruler of Eden

With thunderous explosions, the spears blasted the ground, shook the sky and destroyed all the fragments.

Just a moment later, there were no traces of Aion left in the world.

A soft white shield blocked the spears from reaching Varian.

The crazy scientist, the lead researcher of Origin was dead and dusted!

If not for needing help from Eon, Varian would’ve laughed too.

"Damn it! Fricking damn it!" Even though Eon realized they’re just a projection, he couldn’t stop the fury coursing through his veins.

’Why? Why? Why did my brother have to die?’

Eyes red and legs shaky, he was about to blast the Chieftain with everything he could muster.

But pure rage, even if righteous, wasn’t enough to ignore his catastrophic injuries.

With an explosive sound, the Chieftain’s staff punched a hole through Eon’s chest.

The space in his chest kept exploding, trying to blast him to pieces.

However, a green light kept gathering in the cavity. It turned the time back again and again, keeping the explosions from going further.

The Chieftain couldn’t break through this time barrier. Nor could Eon destroy the space bomb.

At this moment, the space-powered spears reached Eon.

The already struggling man was targeted by nearly half of all the spears.

The once glorious ruler of Heaven was now too injured, too exhausted that even this mob attack did the job.

The green barrier around Eon, the time skipping shield, was immediately overwhelmed.

It worked only for the first few spears, by ’skipping the time’ of the spears it touched and draining away their momentum.

It couldn’t stop the ones that followed.

Like a giant elephant struck by many sharp stones, Eon was bloodied all over from the spears and slowly collapsed.

In his last breath, he gasped weakly as he stared at the depressing sky.

Ironically, it calmed his mind.

’Yes. This is all a projection. They were all dead. Why am I so agitated?’

Ignoring the rough ground and his aching body, Eon tried to be at peace with himself.

’This was how it went. I couldn’t change it. I should accept reality. Nothing is going to change.’

As he prepared to descend into eternal sleep, a set of calm and unhurried footsteps rang from behind.

"The offer still stands." Varian stood next to the dying ruler as he faced off the Neveah tribe.

With his whole army here, the Chieftain was no longer cautious.

"You." He pointed at Varian, gaze intense. "You are a sinner too. You shall die here as well!"

"Sinner!"

"Blasphemer!"

"Burn his body!"

First, it was only the rank 2s. Then, the rank 1s. Soon, everyone was cheering.

With Eon dying, Neveah tribe was celebrating their victory. Varian was just a dessert after their main course.

He’s not going to change anything.

Neveah had won decisively. Now, the world was theirs! And theirs alone!

The Chieftain sensed the mood and decided to let his members take their time.

’Let them take their time. Nothing is going to change anyway.’

What he didn’t know was that Varian was having the exact thought.

’I have recovered about 80% of my strength. My little darling, thank you so much!’

(I’m feeling so shy...hehehe~) Samsara whispered and giggled, like a blushing teenage girl.

[Useless. He only said ’Little darling’ and you’re already feeling the tingles? Hmph! Back in the days, when he tried to please me, he used to call me much more intimate things.]

Logos sounded condescending, displeased, nostalgic and jealous all at the same time.

Varian let them be.

Without Samsara’s active help, he would be struggling against this set up.

But now...

He looked down at the dazed Eon and used soul power to communicate.

"The deal still stands. Answer my questions and I’ll get you revenge."

Eon’s dimming eyes brightened suddenly and he took in Varian’s solemn expression for a moment.

Then, he spoke in his own mind.

’Ask away.’

’It’s better this way.’ Varian condensed his understanding of the universe and divine paths and sent it to Eon’s soul.

’Tell me.’

A soft healing light enveloped Eon, powered by Samsara. It should’ve pulled him from the brink right away.

It didn’t.

’Huh?’ Varian noticed something peculiar.

They’re all dissipating. Not just Eon, even the Chieftain and the army. Like soap slowly dissolving into water, they’re vanishing.

’The dungeon is ending.’ The realization struck him and he urged. ’Hurry up!’

’Two things! You must know two things!’

The ’eyes’ in his soul narrowed and the Chieftain who was letting his tribe celebrate abruptly scowled.

"Attack!"

The spears were launched in the hundreds, tearing through space, about to reach Varian in an instant.

When they did, they’d blast the space around him. If they managed to pierce him, the space power imbued in would force itself into his body and work to explode him into pieces.

At least, that’s what should’ve happened.

Varian snapped his fingers.

Light vanished.

A malicious darkness descended and in it, space itself turned chaotic.

The spears which should’ve moved in perfect trajectories shook violently and misfired in the wrong directions.

Some of them were redirected back at their own tribe, striking the unprepared attackers.

Blood, bones and flesh appeared only for a moment under the dazzling explosions before darkness covered them all.

Then, another snap sounded.

A large, world devouring snake of crimson aura pierced through the darkness.

Born from power of death, its very breath sucked away the vitality of those it approached.

"Ahhh!"

"Save! Oh no!"

"Please!"

The snake coiled itself around the tribe and hissed once.

The low rank 2s, rank 1s and everyone else screamed for one moment and fell silent in the next.

An eternal silence.

Varian clapped lightly.

The snake vanished. So did the darkness.

The Chieftain’s staff was spinning violently, stopped by a white barrier just an inch from his eye.

Varian looked into his eyes calmly. Gone was the arrogance.

In him, there was only fear and disbelief.

"Monster!" The Chieftain yelled as he tried to push the staff forward.

Space exploded at the tip of the staff, bombarding the barrier.

But it amounted to nothing more than ripples. Not even a crack was made.

"Monster!" The Chieftain yelled again, his face contorted as he stared at the nonchalant, confident and cold man.

Because he was a creation of the dungeon itself, he didn’t know that most of his ’self’ had vanished.

Now, he’s only a phantom, trying to fulfill his role.

Varian turned to Eon. Or the phantom that’s Eon. A few more seconds and everything would be gone.

He didn’t know what would happen if he stayed after they vanished. But he didn’t want to take that risk.

That’s why he showed his full strength to Eon. It’s the only way to be told even the deepest secrets.

"A barbarian calls me Monster. Heh." Varian chuckled and punched out without a chance in expression.

His fist glowed with the light of chaos, powered by Logos. It broke the spatial barrier of the Chieftain.

His fingers sank into the warm flesh and glowed red. The primeval power of death emerged.

(Don’t call my Var a monster!)

Samsara snorted and the red light grew brilliant.

The powerful vitality of a mid rank 2 was supposed to take a while to decay. But when the sliver herself acted, it was gone in mere moments.

The Chieftain of Neveah, the man who oversaw the destruction of Heaven tribe, if only as a puppet, was now a corpse.

Under the power of intense death, even the bones turned into powder and blew away with the wind.

"Enough observing. There isn’t any more time to waste." Varian crouched down and glared at Eon, who was still hesitant.

Eon was having second thoughts about the whole thing.

’Even a peak rank 2 like me was made a puppet in this place. How can he ever hope to take revenge?’

Varian sensed what he’s thinking and frowned. "Look at this."

A yin-yang symbol of black and white appeared behind Varian. And a lotus of red and green before him.

Eon didn’t have a chance to observe them fully in the battle. But he did now.

’Slivers! Four of them! Fused! Really?’

Eon let go of his inhibitions and said.

"First. He’s watching you. When you’re strong enough, his eyes appear. I don’t know where he is or what he is.

But he is the maker of this universe. The true god. More than the three primordial gods or the six fake ones that followed."

Varian nodded.

"Two. I don’t believe Divine Paths will help you find a way to defeat him.

I don’t think he’s dumb enough to leave a way to defeat him.

That’s why I’m researching Origin. For whatever reason, he doesn’t like us researching it. That means it has the secrets.

Perhaps it’s his deepest power. Or maybe it wasn’t even his power to begin with.

But remember. Divine Paths, at least how they are, won’t be enough in the end.

You need to figure a way out."

Varian stood up. He’d ponder the advice later. But with Eon almost flickering out of existence, it’s time to leave.

"One more thing." A green light glowed from Eon.

The time sliver!

’Even though it’s just a phantom...’ Varian reached forward instinctively but stopped himself at the last moment.

"I’ll do one last divination. By sacrificing my soul, before I die anyway."

A bright green light burst. And the entire world stilled for a moment.

A strange power pulsed through the world, as if it wouldn’t allow this divination. Varian’s nerves tensed and he couldn’t wait any longer.

With the power of space and time, he leaped out of the world.

As he did, he heard the last divination as it reverberated across the land.

He who ends the ceaseless decay,

So young, yet so old,

Loathed by those he protects,

O’ Eternal Ruler of Eden.

Author Note

Hello, World!

It’s been a while. To be precise, 419 days.

419 days, that is 1 year, 1 month, 1 bi-week, 1 week, 1 half-week.

I’m really sorry it took so long. I still can’t believe the sheer amount of time passed.

I was trying to outline and I had a lot of slumps. I gave myself freedom to do everything from scratch. A lot of experiments and a lot of lessons.

It’s been a wild journey. I hope it’s worth it. Time will tell.

And DPS.

I said I wouldn’t abandon the story. That I would finish it. Give it an ending it deserves.

And I hoped you would stay till the end.

Here I am.

And here you are
