Chapter 1734: Bias of the Universe
Chapter 1734: Bias of the Universe
A blinding light enveloped the whole region.
Hades instinctively stopped in his tracks while the phoenix kept going.
As it approached, it realized a white hemispherical barrier was now enveloping a large region, with Varian as its center.
Screech!
Born from the Undead ruler, the bird held only hostility towards this living being and didn’t stop at the barrier.
It was a mistake.
Screech!
The bird’s wings grew heavy and its aura, at the very peak of mid rank 2, fell to a barely qualifying mid rank 2.
’What?’
Hades’ mind sank at the power of the formation.
’This is a high rank 2 formation! Maybe not as good as the one in God Emperor’s formation...no, this is actually better...compared to them, it was made with far fewer materials and in much lower time.’
Without realizing it, the King of Undead had a hint of fear and disbelief.
It was supposed to be impossible. Yet, Varian did it so easily. And in the middle of a life and death fight!
’Come back!’ He ordered the bird, intending to fight outside the formation.
"I’ll try Phoenix wings tonight." Varian blocked the bird as it was about to fly away.
Screech!
Two green lotus bloomed, enveloping the red phoenix from above and below. A pure white light emerged in the middle.
Screech! Screech! Screech!
The bird flapped violently before stiffening and then its red body dissolved into sparkles.
"Ahhh!"
Hades suffered a minor backlash. But it also pushed him to the brink.
"No matter what, you’re over today."
"I was thinking the same."
Varian reached Hades with a step and to Hades’ shock, the formation was moving with him.
"You!"
A suppression fell on the Undead king, pulling down his high rank 2 aura to somewhere between mid rank 2 and high rank 2.
The red sky trembled violently before returning to normal. Hades power could no longer dominate the region.
Varian was still weaker than him. But not so weak he couldn’t fight directly.
And so he fought.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Explosions and shockwaves swept the region, destroying the remains of the creatures and devastating the landscapes.
The grayness of Varian was receding slowly but surely. Yet, the weakness of that injury remained.
Hades, while suppressed, kept his upper hand.
They abandoned the intricate attacks and resorted to the most straightforward form of battle.
A physical contest.
Hades’ death power faced Varian’s life, death and soul powers.
Punch to punch. Kick to kick.
Varian’s other powers were trying to heal him and keep him alive while the fight continued.
The red aura of Hades kept dominating Varian’s multi-colored auras. With each fight, the red grew a bit more brighter and the other colors, a little fainter.
All of this was reflected in Hades’ flaming eyes and a primal satisfaction rose in him.
"Death should not remain under the shadow of living!
The universe is perfect. All the divine paths are equal.
Death path is equal to Life path.
Undead are as good as the living. We too deserve everything.
Since the living ruled for so long, it is natural that Undead get to rule.
This is destiny, Varian. Give up. Become an Undead and I’ll spare your life."
Hades saw the battle as an omen, that he’d been right about his ambitions. So, he graciously offered Varian a way out.
"There is no equality." Varian suddenly switched from life-soul-death to order-chaos and space-time as offense.
Hades was blasted away, half of his forearm gone.
"Death arises after the living. Without living, there are no dead.
This is not an equal relationship. Never was. Never will be."
Hades was agitated at those words and he attacked back brutally. He decided to kill Varian at all costs, even if his rank regressed today.
Even with the region and formation was suppressing him, Hades was still stronger than Varian.
The battle should’ve been tilted towards him.
And yet...
’Why?’
Boom!
’Why?’
Boom!
’Just why?’
Boom! Boom! Boom!
"Why is this happening?"
Hades panted, heavy injuries all over his body. Facing him was Varian in a worse condition.
Yet, the stronger one was losing confidence while the weaker one remained steady.
"When I’m usually against a stronger enemy, my paths simply grow and I defeat him. My condition doesn’t allow that now. I only have the slivers, the regional authority and the formation."
Varian smiled, reviving his dried up legs back to a living state. "With my back against the wall, I have to use these to defeat you."
"...You improved so much in such little time?" Hades shook his head in utter disbelief. And then disbelief turned not madness.
He had to end the battle now.
The king of undead raised his hand. All the vitality he extracted from the region poured out. The pure green light had mostly turned red, corrupted by the overbearing aura of death.
Now, even the last bits of green were being converted. Hades distanced himself from Varian, dodging the blasts of space and beams of vitality.
This would be his strongest move.
Raising a brow, Varian realized he couldn’t prevent him. So, he instead prepared a move of his own.
"Go!"
He pointed a finger to the sky.
The slivers, the formation and the region stirred.
The forbidden region was formed by a Primordial God. The slivers were also birthed by the same entity.
The formation, while researched by Heaven tribe, was also related to their research on the Primordial God’s corpse. It’s also their research that allowed them to use it for energy usage.
They were acting separately until now.
With a snap of his fingers, Varian aligned them.
"You will lose. It is our time." Hades raised his hand, the burning red death essence in his hand, the flame of death flared up. "The living ruled for too long. Now, it is the turn of the dead. The perfect balance, this is destiny."
"No."
The pressure on Hades multiplied without warning, weakening his magnificent attack.
"The universe is not balanced or it wouldn’t be on the verge of destruction.
Equal? If equal, it’s between the dead and the living. Not the Undead and living.
Ativ tribe were living beings with power of death. Undead came up at some point. You are an aberration.
And honestly? From what I’ve seen so far, that premise of equality is a lie.
Our world is biased towards the living. Chaos keeps increasing while Order his falling, so it biased towards chaos.
You can transverse to any space, but you can’t travel back in time. The universe is biased."
Hades’ shook violently as he resisted the pressure, pouring his everything into the flame of death.
"No. All divine paths are equal! That is the truth, agreed since the age of gods.
And that very truth says, death is normal. Undead, borne out of death, should have their own place like everyone else.
We cannot be shadows of the living."
A bright red light radiated from Hades, covering half of the region.
"The dead should’ve never become Undead. They should go through reincarnation and have a new chance. Like in the myths of my home place."
A bright green light emerged from Varian. Then, a white, black and many more.
Sarah and the women outside the region shielded their eyes as the blinding light radiated outward.
The sinister, ominous red light filled one half of the region. The brilliant multicored light covered the other half.
And then, they both vanished.
A few seconds later, a huge explosion rang.
The sheer shockwaves sent the women flying away.
The great battle for the throne of Eden ended.
