Chapter 1738: The End and Beginning
Chapter 1738: The End and Beginning
They toured the academy, they toured the capital, they toured the Centaurus duchy. Every place they've been to, they revisited it and reminisced about the past events.
The day seemed to pass peacefully. But Aurora knew that the capital was seeing regular murders.
On this very day, they were close to at least five murders. But Varian changed the route and prevented her from encountering them.
The sun was setting and Aurora sat on a swing in a serene park. The orange rays shone from behind, casting her in a beautiful glow.
Varian looked at her in a daze, wondering why was she looking so beautiful on the verge of death.
Maybe she had always been so pretty. But he only looked at her today.
Aurora didn't speak. She looked back at him with a satisfied smile. A few minutes later, she let out a contended sigh.
"Even if it's only for a day, this life is the best. I finally know this feeling. I'm glad I know love before leaving."
"Matching clothes, desert in a cafe, a movie, shopping, a smooth lunch and an evening walk. Is that love?" Varian muttered.
"No." Aurora shook her head and winked. "Doing it with you is."
Varian was taken aback before giving a wry smile. "You're being really straightforward. You never said anything like this all these years and suddenly today...is it just because you want to experience love?"
"Hm?" Aurora raised a brow, grasping his meaning. Then, she angrily pouted and walked to him with pretentious forceful steps.
Without a word, she sat on his lap, facing him.
The swing creaked a little but stayed fine otherwise, like Varian's heart that trembled before calming down. But tremble, it did.
She leaned closer, bringing their faces in touching distance. "Do you think I'm feeling love because I want to experience it once before I leave? That it's not real and I'm just feeling it for the sake of feeling it?"
Varian felt her breath hitting his face and slightly leaned back.
Aurora pulled his collar and pressed her lips onto his.
"Haaa!" A few seconds later, she leaned back, a silver bridge between their lips.
Staring at the dumbfounded Varian, she laughed. "Don't be silly. I can't just force myself to love you just because I'm dying. And no, it's not because you saved me. I'm not doing this as an obligation either. Asherah saved your life, did you start loving her?"
Varian nodded slowly. "You didn't show any feelings until this day."
"I…" Aurora paused before looking away, cheeks flushed. "Only you wouldn't notice! Have you ever heard about taking hints?"
"Have you heard about opening your mouth and speaking plain language…like normal people do when they want to say something." Varian retorted.
"Aaaah!" Aurora jumped from his lap and turned around. Crossing her hands, she mumbled. "Have you heard about surviving four Yanderes?"
The man of the yanderes looked unconvinced.
"Fine! The truth is I wasn't sure myself. I like being with you, with Sia, with all of you."
"Wait, wait, do you als—" Varian's eyes widened.
Damn it! She's going to take the whole family for a date! What an audacious girl!
"No, no, no!" Aurora turned around, waving her hands before glaring at him with teary eyes for considering that angle. "I…think the five of you are perfect. I don't want to destroy that harmony."
"So you always call me brother-in-law."
Aurora nodded.
"And call the brother-in-law for a date."
Aurora blushed before giving him a cute glare. "Anyway, I'm not official. Never official. You and the four are the real deal. That's it. You're always my brother-in-law."
"That makes going on a date with me even more immoral." Varian laughed.
"Ahhh!" Aurora stomped and stormed off the park.
She somehow ended up at the royal district. The guards were about to stop her, but Miss Calamity tossed some token and they let her in.
Varian wasn't even noticed by them as he walked behind her. Not too far away was the royal palace.
Come to think of it, how was the king doing?
Varian shook his head, throwing the matter out of his thoughts. He had to keep Aurora occupied with something, keeping her will to live always active.
[The shards will be done in four hours. Sooner than expected.]
(It's because I helped!)
It'd done before the midnight.
'As long as sh—'
Boom!
Varian paused and glanced at the royal palace. The top of the grand structure was blasted off by an attack.
Boom! Boom!
"How dare you disobey my order?" A thunderous voice reverberated across the capital.
A moment later, a roguish man in divine glow descended from the sky. Floating at his feet was the king of Pala, heavily injured.
"Listen, you people of Pala!" The divine ranker announced, his voice infused with divinity reaching every street of the vast city. "You shall never disobey my orders. You shall never spare the race I ordered for extinction. It doesn't matter if that race is Nymphs or mermaids!"
Varian narrowed his eyes.
The king wanted to protect the races related to Varian and was forced to this situation.
'All of Genesis is like this. These divine rankers…they see themselves as gods, killing people without a shred of mercy.'
Aurora walked back to him and held his arm.
Varian looked at her. Even though he didn't say anything, she understood.
With a smile, Miss Calamity smiled. "Before I go, let's clean up the whole region! Miss Calamity's name will be recorded as the one who destroyed this filth!"
"Good." Varian nodded and held her hand.
A moment later, he appeared in the sky, in front of the divine ranker who's about to kill the king.
A mere high rank 1, acting like a god.
Varian fought Hades and was still in a weakened state. But even in this state, there were barely any across the whole galaxy who could give him a fight.
"Who are you?" The divine ranker was alarmed at the appearance of Varian and Aurora.
He didn't sense them when they appeared in front of him! How did they conceal themselves?
Suddenly, a guess struck him and his face paled.
"W-Wait, Lord Var—ahhh!"
Varian snapped his fingers and a flame of death enveloped the divine ranker.
"S-Spare me! I am c-close to the former maste—aaaah!"
The whole capital watched as the god-like divine ranker burned in the crimson flame, screaming and begging for mercy, but getting none.
He cried for hours, experiencing excruciating pain before dying.
In those few hours, most of the divine rankers ruling across Genesis were killed.
Some threatened with their backgrounds.
"My father is about to reach rank 2!"
"I am directly related to All Mother Asherah!"
Many begged.
"Please spare me! Spare me!"
"Why are you killing me? Just for these lowly mortals?"
They all died a gruesome death. And with every death, a calm female voice rang across that capital.
"Miss Calamity hereby deposes of this tyrant king. Let there be peace and prosperity."
In just a few hours, her name spread throughout Genesis.
For all her kills, she was seen as a benevolent goddess by the people. A lot of kingdoms had already declared her as their goddess and announced they'd built temples to worship her.
And that goddess was now in Varian's arms, showering him with kisses as she grew increasingly drowsy.
"I…I'm leaving." Kissing his forehead, she said.
"Hm." Varian hummed.
"Please take care of yourself." Her body could no longer hold on. But this date was enough! She could now die in peace!
"Hm."
"You are so cool tonight! Killing all those tyrants." She cupped his cheeks and looked at his face closely.
"Ahh! My brother-in-law is so cool!" Pulling him close, she kissed him deeply.
"You were cool too. Your name is already a legend. It'll become a myth." Varian smiled.
Aurora smiled wistfully. "After actually doing it, I realized I don't really care about what the world thinks. As long as you and they think of me every now and then and smile…I'll be happy."
[Varian, it's done.]
"Aurora..." Varian spoke up.
"Shhh~" She pressed his lips and kissed him again. "My time is up. I want to go in your embrace, with good night kiss."
Aurora looked at him with a loving gaze.
Varian sighed and then hugged her tight, smashing his lips onto hers. This was the first time he proactively kissed her.
Aurora sunk her fingers into him, as she enjoyed this first and last kiss.
"Goodbye, brother-in-law~"
With a soft voice, she looked at him one last time.
Varian's gaze was gentle, his touch kept her warm. "I love you!"
Aurora's consciousness turned dark. As it did, a black and white light enveloped her origin.
She seemed to have died. Or maybe she just fell asleep.
A deep, deep sleep.
"Brother-in-law, I love you!" Aurora yelled and then realized she's awake in a familiar bedroom, surrounded by four very familiar women. Their expressions weren't very good.
"…"
"…"
"…"
"…"
Sia and Isadora rolled their sleeves. Sarah pulled out a sword. Enigma drew a whip.
Aurora noticed Varian outside the room, watching the whole drama with anticipation.
'Save me!' She pleaded with her eyes.
'No.' Varian replied, with a cheeky smile.
Watching the women draw closer, Aurora panicked and kicked the sheets, stumbling off the bed.
A sword pierced the bed and the whip blew the mattress into pieces.
Aurora's heart almost stopped at their brutality. But her poor body couldn't stop. Taking a deep breath, she jumped off the window, straight into the lake yelling.
"I hate you, brother-in-law!"
