Chapter 921:- Komodo Crawler
Chapter 921:- Komodo Crawler
Huff...!! Huff...!!!
"How long have we been walking now?" The Goddess of Wisdom was asked the same question for the 100th time.
Each time she asked, Aditya would patiently give her an answer.
Laura was very exhausted.
She knew that Aditya was having a much harder time than she was.
"Maybe four and a half hours now." Even he wasn't sure.
The extreme thirst made it so much harder for him. And no matter how much water he drank every few minutes, his thirst was never quenched.
"At our current speed, we should reach our destination by the 6th day." They weren't walking. Walking and trying to cross the desert would take weeks. So running was the only option. But due to his thirst, they couldn't run too long. Not to mention running on the sand was pure torture.
Fortunately, Aditya had a whole lot of pills and potions that his wife Julia made for him.
"By the way, can't fly just a few inches above the ground? I don't think this even counts as flying." The sand was making them exert more stamina and strength while slowing them down.
"Lucky for you, some did think of this idea and actually tried it." They stopped walking for a second.
She, as usual, created two fist-sized balls of water and dropped them on their heads.
"But they failed, didn't they?" She figured if they had succeeded, then they would be travelling in that manner.
"Yup!"
"The limit is one inch from the ground."
"And given how uneven the terrain is, I don't think it's possible to stay exactly an inch from the ground and not go any higher."
Just then, Aditya had an idea.
"But what if our foot always touched the ground?" He asked himself. He had forgotten to ask William this question.
It would be more like floating. When flying, their bodies would fly horizontally, but if they stayed vertical and allowed the bottom of their leather shoes to touch the sand lightly, then this wouldn't be considered flying.
Aditya felt this was an idea that was worth exploring. Although there was some risk, the reward was just too tempting.
Flying like this, he won't be able to use his full speed as he will constantly need to look out for the Scattered Zones. But this was 100% faster than running on sand for hours.
"So we are going to take the risk?" Laura understood what he was thinking and asked.
He nodded. "Your question just gave me the idea." His grin made her smile.
"Maybe no one before us has tried this crazy method before."
"Alright! Let's put this to the test first."
"I am going first." Laura wanted to go first, but before she could say anything, he had already taken action.
His Dragon wings came out of his back.
Flap!
With one strong flap, dust and sand blew in all directions.
Aditya slowly rose a few inches above the ground. He kept his body straight and leaned forward just a bit. His black leather boots lightly brushed the sand, just enough to feel the contact.
His heartbeat quickened. For a second, he didn't move.
Then he flapped his wings again, this time more slowly and with greater control.
Woooosh!
He floated forward. His boots kept touching the sand. Just a soft tap each time.
Aditya kept looking around. But even after 10 seconds of doing this, nothing happened. Seeing this, he felt very relieved.
It was working.
Aditya looked at Laura and smiled. She also smiled. It was a calculated risk, but for the reward, it was totally worth it.
He flapped again and moved even faster. The heat from the desert felt less cruel now that his feet weren't sinking into the sand. His movement felt smooth, like gliding on ice.
"It's working!"
Aditya returned to her while laughing through his heavy breaths.
"It's actually working!"
"But we have to be really cautious. If we stayed above the ground for 5 seconds, then it would be over."
"Our boots must remain in contact with the sand at all times."
And so both of them began travelling in this manner. At first, it was a little tough for them to get used to it, but within ten minutes, both of them understood the basic principle of gliding on sand.
Once they both understood the basics, their speed began to increase gradually. Even then, they couldn't go all out. They had to constantly refer to the map of the Scattered Zones and check their location in the desert.
They needed to know which direction they were heading and which areas to avoid. One wrong step and they could end up inside a Scattered Zone.
Their desert journey on sand gliding ended in less than 30 minutes when they saw something on the map that made them stop.
"Just a kilometre ahead, it's the territory of the Komodo Crawler."
Looking at the tiny picture of the Komodo Crawler on the map, Aditya felt these Magic Animals looked almost like a Komodo Dragon from his old world.
'The difference is that their skin is the colour of the sand, which makes it really easy for them to hide in the sand and wait for the prey.' No one is as skilled at camouflage as the Komodo Crawler in the desert.
These magic animals can dig and live up to 500 to 1000 meters deep in the sand. And most of the time, they travel underground through a series of underground channels that they have built over thousands of years.
Calling this entire Desert the territory of the Komodo Crawler wouldn't be wrong. In the sand, they can go anywhere.
Normally, taking on Komodo Dragons wouldn't be that much of a problem. However, if they did get into a fight here, they would also need to ensure that they don't step into any hazardous zone while fighting.
The magic monsters that live in this desert are not affected by the scattered zones. The Scattered Zones don't pull them inside.
"We will have to take a detour!" Laura agreed.
So, Laura and Aditya had to glide on the sand and retreat for about 500 meters before taking a detour. It was a long detour to ensure that they wouldn't step into their territory. This part was more like their base of operation; it was the place where the female Komodo Dragon usually laid eggs. For this reason, they are extremely aggressive towards any being who is even nearby their territory.
Halfway in their detour, a small lizard-like animal climbed onto Laura's thigh when they stopped to look at the map.
Kyaa.....!!!!
Laura screamed before throwing herself into his arms. She tightly wrapped her arms around his neck.
Aditya almost felt choked because of how tightly she was holding him.
"What happened?" He hadn't noticed the Lizard still now.
"Move that damn thing!!!" She sounded desperate. She was clinging to his body like an octopus and was refusing to let go.
"Where is it?" He searched her body but couldn't find it.
Then the little Komodo Crawler appeared in front of them.
When Laura jumped into his arms, the Komodo Crawler fell down.
"So it's a Komodo Crawler!" The creature was around half a meter in size. This creature was the same color as the sand. And it had red pupils that seemed to glow.
Despite being so small, this creature already had the strength of a Peak 2nd-order.
"Alright! Alright! You can relax." Hearing this, Laura finally calmed down and slowly let go. But she didn't dare to leave his side.
"Are you really that afraid of this Komodo Crawler?" Aditya asked with a smirk.
"I hate Lizards. They disgust me." Just looking at this Komodo Crawler, Laura felt sick.
"Alright! Let's ignore it and keep moving." Aditya thought that this little guy had travelled out of their home and had met them. Normally, he would just kill it, but they weren't that far from the territory of the Komodo Crawler. And there was a chance that if he killed this creature, then a bigger and stronger Komodo Crawler might show up.
Aditya and Laura were about to leave, but then the little creature fired a golden beam of light at them. The beam of light was straight but very weak. This kind of attack would not harm them.
There was no need even to dodge this attack. But it was powerful enough to fry a Peak Second Order cultivator instantly.
"Alright! I have had enough!" Aditya's eyes started glowing red. The temperature of his eyes rapidly started rising.
But just then, the sand dome behind the little creature started to vibrate. In fact, everything in the area seemed to vibrate.
"What's happening?" Laura asked in a nervous tone.
Aditya's expression instantly changed. "Laura, prepare yourself. A really powerful enemy is coming." The strength of this creature was at least mid-6th-order.
"I guess it was you who summoned a member of your race." The heat in his eyes intensified, and the next second, two red laser beams shot out of his eyes. The laser beams instantly turned the little Komodo Crawler to ashes.
Aditya then took Laura and they began gliding away as quickly as possible from this area.
This time, he did not hold back and moved as fast as he could.
But behind them, the massive behemoth rose from the depths of the desert.
Roar....!!!
As soon as the creature appeared, it let out a thunderous roar that seemed to shake everything in the area.
While gliding through the sand as fast as they could, Laura looked back for a second. The moment her eyes fell on the massive, towering figure behind them, her blood ran cold, and her heart started beating faster. She began to sweat, not from heat but from fear and nervousness.
"We are gonna die!" Her face had turned pale.
Aditya also took a microsecond to turn around and look at the creature, but he wasn't afraid.
"Laura, calm down!" He said in a loud tone. His voice kind of calmed her down and helped her regain focus.
"Right now, one of us has to constantly watch the map and guide the other through the scattered zones' borders." Because stopping and looking at the map wasn't an option for them.
"Alright! Let me guide you." Laura opened the map with her one hand. Her other hand was held by him.
