Chapter 950: Chapter 950:- Unexpected Interaction

Getting through Norwer City was extremely difficult. With doubled security and members of the League of Black Tombs spread in every district of the city, Athena almost felt trapped. She felt like she could never find that opening to leave this city.

Not to mention, every inn of the City, she was certain that there were people working either directly or indirectly for the League of Black Tombs. Even with her appearance completely disguised, she still did not feel confident.

She even went as far as to wear heels so that she could appear taller.

Fortunately, her stay in Norwer City was brief.

In one of the alleys, she found a corpse. It was the corpse of a woman. Using her ability, Memory Keeper, which was an ability that let her read emotional imprints from objects, she was able to learn how these women died and everything that she did that led her to the city.

Athena did not adopt her identity. The reason for that was that although she could not find out the motive as to why she was killed in this alley by one of the guards, she had a feeling that a member of the League of Black Tombs killed her.

There was also the possibility that sooner rather than later, someone would eventually come to clean up the corpse.

Fortunately, the guard didn’t seem that interested in her belongings. Athena was able to find a few things that will help.

She took the badge that the woman had. It was a badge that showed that she was an outer member of a Sect located in the far northern region of the Main Continent.

Using that identity and wearing another set of washed clothes from the woman’s storage ring, Athena, once again altered her face a little to make sure that she could blend in.

After buying some spicy chicken skewers from a local vendor, she stood in line for the exit. The line of the exit was massive. It easily stretched at least a few kilometres from the gate of the City.

The security was extreme. Normally, one could get some illegal stuff in or out of the City or go inside without needing to pay any tariff by paying a few coins to the guards. But this time, the guards had a very serious attitude, and anyone who was trying to bribe them would be immediately arrested and taken for interrogation. Athena happened to see this with her own eyes as she stood in line and waited for her turn to come.

Scene Change____

After exiting, or more like escaping, the City, she joined a group of travellers who were passing by Norwer City and headed towards a small town called the Summerland.

The Journey to Summerland took approximately one and a half days. She could’ve reached the town much faster, but she was sure that if she travelled fast, then it would only raise suspicion and people would follow her.

This is also why she decided to join this group of travellers who were heading in this direction.

As soon as the Goddess stepped within Summerland, groups of guards stopped their carriage and took them for questioning.

For a moment, Athena became nervous. She then realised and found that none of the guards were truly threatening. With her cultivation, she can easily kill them. But this would only further complicate things. So this was a route that she wasn’t keen to take unless she had no other options.

Fortunately, the guards thoroughly inspected everything in the carriage and everyone in their group. After feeling that no one here was suspicious, the guards led them to enter the town after apologising. Normally, they would never check any traveller or merchant or any visitor like this, but they had strict orders from the higher-ups, and they could not disobey the people at the top.

Athena assumed that just because this town was very small, she could let her guard down and relax for a day or two before continuing on her journey, but she was mistaken as soon as she came to the town Square.

The Square was open and very crowded. There were almost hundreds of local vendors on all sides. The Town Square was truly the heart of the Town.

It was evening time, and there was less than an hour of sunlight left.

’I am pretty Sure, there will be people keeping close eyes on all the inns.’ Athena had no plans of staying here for the night. At the same time, she wasn’t willing to leave the Town without a group.

She was more likely to attract attention from people of those organisations if she travelled alone than if she travelled with a group.

’Should I use my powers?’ That thought crossed her mind multiple times. She wanted to be careful and not expose her location.

The Goddess thought for a moment and decided to use her powers to create a small commotion at the heart of the Town in a manner where no innocent will be harmed, and everyone’s attention will be diverted.

Including the attention of all the members and their informants.

Athena acted like a traveller. She approached a vendor and bought a few things.

While eating a lamb skewer, she casually began walking away.

But then, multiple vendors began a huge argument with a group of guards who were doing their routine check-up while secretly looking out for their suspect. After all, the reward for giving the location of the suspect or anyone matching their description would earn them more money than they could earn while working as guards in the next 200 years. This much money is enough to change their entire life and elevate their social standing.

They could even go to the main continent and live a good life there.

But then the vendors lashed out at them.

One of the vendors angrily grabbed his collar and yelled loudly. At the same time, the other one slapped a senior guard. This slap was like the breaking point. At that moment, the guard couldn’t remember if he even felt the pain from the slap. But he clearly remembered slapping the vendor back twice the force and then knocking him down with a punch to the gut.

As soon as things became physical, a huge fight erupted between the local vendors and the guards of the city. For years, there was hatred between guards and the local vendors, as the guards extorted money in the name of protection fees from the local vendors, which took away a significant portion of their profit. This even forced some vendors to move to other towns or cities. But those who did not leave and stayed behind, their resentment towards the guards over the years only deepened. So, as soon as a spark between a few vendors and guards started, it immediately turned into a fire between the guards of the city and the vendors of the city.

Meanwhile, Athena happily ate the Lamb skewers and kept walking. She had noticed this tension as she was walking around the Town. She just nudged the vendors in that direction and used an illusion to make the guard think that he had been slapped. As a senior guard, he would obviously have immense pride, and the last thing that he would accept would be a slap on the face by a lowly vendor that was also in the most crowded place in the town.

Without even realising it, this whole thing was done by Athena. Now she can use this chance to get the essential supplies she needs and leave the town in the darkness of the night. There must surely be some parties that are leaving the Town.

After all, this Town sat in the middle of Norwer and the next City. This town was often used as a stopping or resting point by travellers and merchants.

As Athena was walking away, a trio walked past her. Unlike her, they were walking toward the Town Square to see what had caused this huge commotion, as more and more guards were running toward it, their numbers growing.

"Grandpa, I don’t think we should get ourselves involved in this mess. This will only slow us down and could also get us in unnecessary trouble." The last thing that they wanted was to get into some trouble. Unlike Athena, the trio did not have any solid fake backgrounds. So there was a high probability that their disguises would be easily seen through, and they might get arrested for suspicious activities.

"We are not getting ourselves in trouble. I want to travel with a group. So coming here is the best choice to find people who might be looking for companions to travel with to the next city."

Alfred had travelled like this a long, long time ago. At that time, he was just 19 years of age, and he wanted to see the Six Continents. So he left home at the age of 18 without any money and kept wondering around the Tunnel World for almost 2 years. Years of travelling around the world have taught him many valuable things. He knew from experience that the safest way to travel was to travel in a group, even if this increased their travelling time. In the end, it was very much worth it.

They also couldn’t forget that they did not have any powerhouse in their group. Alfred was old and weak and was still recovering from being imprisoned. Mateo and Bree were both inexperienced and could not be considered a powerhouse. Against a Strong Beginner 6th-order, both of them together would struggle.

Within an hour, the whole Town was engulfed in the flames of a civil war between the Guards and the local vendors and others who were oppressed by the guards for years. The whole Town square had turned into a battleground.

This made many travellers who were thinking of spending the night here change their minds and leave the town as soon as possible, as they didn’t want to get involved in this fight and risk any kind of loss.

Aflred, Bree, and Mateo found themselves in a group of 15 travellers. Among the entire group, only one woman was a cultivator from a major Sect.

"Lady Hina, I hope you will protect us if anything happens." The one who organised everything said to Athena, who was currently in disguise.

Athena acted coldly and just nodded her head. She had no intention of talking to anyone. It was better to stay detached and leave so that she would be forgotten from everyone’s memories within days.

But while looking at everyone, she spotted a certain old man standing beside two youngsters. For some reason, she felt that she had met this old man somewhere before.
