Chapter 167: Sixth Sense
Chapter 167: Sixth Sense
The Eclipse had swallowed Toy.
Toy desperately tried to hold onto Awilix’s wrist, but the cat’s movements were lost to the darkness.
Toy couldn’t see it, yet she could most definitely feel Awilix’s claws ripping into her back and wrist.
Normally, Toy wouldn’t shy away from taking damage if it meant inflicting the same in return. But now, she was in no position to mount any kind of counterattack.
Toy let go of Awilix’s wrist and jumped away, trying to escape the black cube, but suddenly her back smashed into the wall.
"Ack!"
The goblin slightly yelped in pain as she fell to her knee, blood dribbling down her arm and back.
’That hurt...’
As much as Toy wanted to succumb to the pain and run to Salome to get healed...
’That’s not going to happen.’
Toy didn’t want to lose.
This craving to win went beyond reaching Master Salome’s or Sir Vale’s expectations of her.
It was something she decreed as her own aspiration. Her own will — regardless of outstanding factors.
Toy forced herself up and stared at the only thing she could see: the golden eyes.
The golden eyes, which slowly lowered to the ground, stayed still for a few moments; then, coinciding with a low growl, shot forth toward her.
’Shit...’
Toy was standing.
But what could she do?
She could barely fight the cat when she could see. How was she supposed to do it impaired? In complete darkness?
Especially when most of her training revolved around reading balance: her own, her opponent’s, and the terrain beneath them.
Toy grimaced and made her move.
Activating Featherweight to its maximum, Toy kicked off the wall she knew was behind her and sent herself hurtling through the air.
The moment her body left the ground, her entire sense of the fight was twisted.
She knew where Awilix was, relatively... but she didn’t know where she was herself.
Toy’s body blitzed through the black void over the cat, thankfully avoiding any attack Awilix had unleashed.
But Toy could do nothing as her head collided with the ceiling, then she landed hard on her left ankle and rolled to the ground.
Toy grimaced as a weird pop sounded from her shin, and her head spun.
Though she had to stand back up as Awilix was already closing in on her.
Relying on nothing but luck and the fact that she knew this ground was planar, Toy began to flee.
Toy made it barely a few steps before she smashed into the dungeon wall, but once she did, she put her hand on it and began sprinting while using it as somewhat of a guide.
’This sucks!’
As Toy ran, she placed her other arm out in front of her in an attempt to catch herself when he inevitably crashed into the wall.
When such a thing happened...
Toy bounced away and fell on her ass.
"Pshee!"
Awilix paused in her pursuit to laugh at Toy, who grimaced as she stood, then began running along the other wall.
The golden eyes began darting through the air again, following Toy, who eventually slammed into the next corner.
’Did it get bigger?’
Toy didn’t really have a sense of anything at the moment, but the space she was confined in felt larger than the one she’d seen when they’d attacked the village.
’Don’t tell me...’
Toy began sprinting again, only to crash into another wall.
’Shit!’
Awilix’s Eclipse had been able to cover the entire training hall, or at least appeared to.
Toy had merely been trying to escape it, but it seemed like she had to face the cat...
But how would such a thing even be possible?
Sure, she could see Awilix’s eyes, but not her arms or legs. How was she supposed to defend against anything?!
Yet, in the face of that hopelessness, Toy stood her ground and let the golden eyes encroach.
Toy sent a backheel toward Awilix, but the cat must have dodged because her foot never made contact.
Then, Toy received a crushing blow to her kidney. But thankfully, that was all she received before she managed to jump over Awilix and retreat to the far end of the Eclipse.
Pain and trepidation filled Toy, but she refused to back down or surrender as Awilix gave chase.
As much as Toy wanted to rely on the only thing she could, Awilix’s eyes...
’It’s getting me nowhere!’
Toy took a pained, deep breath, then closed her eyes.
’Steps and draft...’
There were only two things she could rely on to face Awilix...
The very minuscule sound she made when walking along with the draft of air created by her movements.
Toy stood still until she felt the tickle of wind bite her cheek. Then, she raised her right fist and punched through the air.
’I hit her!’
Toy didn’t know what exactly she hit, but it felt like Awilix’s arm.
Toy, with her eyes still closed, sensed another draft toward her abdomen and spun to the side before punching down.
’She’s gotten lazy!’
Once again, Toy’s fist sailed into something. This time, it appeared to be Awilix’s leg.
’This...’
Toy increased her focus even further and felt multiple drafts at once...
Though these were simply Awilix’s movements, not attacks.
As Toy honed in on the slight changes in the atmosphere, she felt something within her awaken. Like she’d just realized something she’d always had, had been unlocked.
’What the...’
Toy didn’t know exactly what was happening...
But she could sense Awilix’s every movement, almost like she could see her. Yet her eyes were still closed.
Actually, Toy felt she could see and sense more with her eyes closed.
Awilix launched blow after blow toward Toy, but Toy easily deflected or dodged each.
All of a sudden, the draft of retreat filled the air.
Awilix had jumped away.
"That’s enough..."
After a deep sigh, Awilix added in an uncharacteristically solemn tone:
"I really didn’t want to have to do this."
