Chapter 186: Courtesy of a Vice

Greed chuckled as she summoned a chair and threw it toward Vale.

"Why, thank you for having me, Lust."

Vale caught the chair, then spun it and sat down.

"I’m assuming you’ve already helped Envy. So, I am confused why you decided to go sightseeing when you have business to attend to?"

Following Vale, Mias summoned chairs of smoke for Awilix, Toy, and himself.

’Awilix is being well-behaved...’

Perhaps it was her instincts for survival kicking in. Greed was a threat beyond anything any of them had ever experienced. Their life was a matter of her whim at the moment.

Greed smiled as she crossed her legs, her eyes drifting over Vale’s Champions.

"The coup in Windshire, you mean? Cha Cha, one of my Champions, is taking care of that; I needn’t worry on that front."

Vale nodded his head slowly.

"Ah, that would make sense... But you came all this way alone?"

Greed laughed, then gestured her head outside.

"Alone? Heavens no! I brought two of my finest Champions. One is too big to fit in here, and the other is currently scouting the area... There was a band of Celestia knights traveling about; he’s making sure they don’t follow me here."

’She traveled away from her dungeon with merely two Champions at her side?’

Just how strong was she to feel confident enough to do that?

Vale’s eyes flickered and washed over Greed’s alluring form, studying her body.

Her uncalloused hands, smooth skin, shining amber irises.

She looked delicate and weak...

When he realized what he was doing, he suppressed [Charm] and [Flame of Lust].

Greed looked amused at the gesture.

"Oh, you don’t have to do that for me. You’re at a level much too weak for me to be affected."

Vale replied with practiced ease:

"I have to practice it anyway... I’ve recently come to realize the effect it may have on others when I don’t wish it to."

Greed looked over at Salome, then said.

"Quick on the uptake. She’s a victim of me simply looking at her by accident."

’Looking at her did that to her?!’

Vale looked at his Champion, who was still trying to tear at the bars.

Greed studied the succubus, then added.

"All my ability amplifies someone’s wants and desires to an uncontrollable level. Yet, even I was a little surprised when she went into that murderous frenzy so quickly. She must have some sinister desires."

Vale sighed, then said:

"That would be because she really wants to kill another one of my Champions, but holds herself back. Oh, she may also want to kill Mias now."

Vale gestured to his left at the smoky reaper, whom Greed had called ’snack...’

’Whatever that meant.’

Greed studied Mias’s body and repeated the name as if she didn’t already know it.

"Mias. That’s a weird name."

Mias replied evenly:

"So I’ve been told."

Greed chuckled at his languid response, then summoned glasses and slid them on her face.

Once she did, she looked over Mias then gave an approving nod. Next, she looked over at Toy and Awilix.

A soft note of confusion crossed her eyes.

"Hmm..."

Vale watched Greed’s odd gestures, then followed his gaze to the two to his right. Toy looked beyond spooked, and Awilix assumed a defensive posture.

Greed finally broke her silence.

"You’re quite strong for an Aberrant. And you have quite the strong Trait for a Nascent Monster."

’Huh?’

Vale didn’t exactly know how Greed could assess such a thing...

’But it’s probably to do with her ability.’

Vale leaned back in his chair, then said:

"Thank you for the praise of them, but I do hope you know they’re not for sale."

Greed laughed candidly.

"Lust, oh Lust! Anything and everything in this world has a price! But don’t worry, you can keep those two. As for that one..."

Greed looked at Mias again.

"I’d love to take him off your hands. Or at least a part of him. He could be very useful."

Vale slightly shuddered as Greed grew a wicked grin and sized Mias up.

Mias himself looked perturbed as he replied:

"I don’t particularly take fondly to those who put me in tubes, so I’ll have to respectfully decline."

Greed laughed uncontrollably at the Reaper of Knowledge, then bellowed out:

"Darling! The choice is not yours to hold! It would be Lust which holds that burden."

Awilix shrieked:

"You’re in luck, turns out he’s on clearance—"

Vale threw his hand over Awilix’s mouth.

’Where’d she even learn that?!’

Vale added:

"Well, I don’t wish to part with him for any price. He has a lot to make up for before he’s allowed to leave."

Greed feigned a sigh, then looked over at Salome, who was finally starting to calm down.

"That’s too bad... what about that one?"

Vale looked at Salome in her pitiful state, then said:

"She’s much too valuable to me. Giving her away would be the same as trading my own life."

Greed clapped.

"How admirable, my friend! How resolute!"

When her soft claps ended, an odd silence took hold of the dungeon.

A few moments later, Greed broke it by summing another pair of glasses and tossing them to Vale.

"A gift for this exquisite welcome and for the tour you’ve yet to give me."

’Tour?’

Well, if Greed wanted a tour, Vale didn’t necessarily have the liberty to decline.

Vale curiously put the glasses on.

[You have equipped UR-ranked Item: Essence Pryer]

’What the...’

The moment Vale looked at Mias, his status page summoned... but that wasn’t all.

His abilities had a secondary, more literal description detailing how they worked.

Vale looked over at Awilix and Toy, which revealed the same kind of information.

Then, his eyes fell upon the dormant Dawn’s Eye in Awilix’s hand...

[Dawn’s Eye] - [Oh, spider of heaven who looks upon the brink of day.]

’A description?’

What did that even mean?

And under it was a secondary description of the Enchantment:

[Luminosity] - [Activation will cause a luminous glow.]

’I wonder...’

Vale drew his gaze to Greed, but unfortunately, nothing happened.

Greed smiled, then uncrossed her legs and stood up. At the same time, Salome’s frenzy came to an end, and her reason returned.

Greed recalled the cage and throne, then gestured for the chair Vale sat on.

Vale slowly rose and handed it back as Greed said:

"Now, let’s start the tour..."
