Chapter 197: Scarface
Chapter 197: Scarface
With Greed temporarily gone, Vale was able to think clearly once again.
’I can’t believe I’ll have to deal with her for two weeks.’
Two weeks if Vale was lucky.
Vale sighed and looked over his warriors.
’So, this is all of who’s left.’
It was a bit surreal to know that his force of almost sixty had dwindled down to eight.
’But the worst part is...’
Vale didn’t even feel bad about their deaths.
He didn’t have Greed’s mindset that they were property, yet something inhibited him from feeling true guilt for their passing.
That’s not to say he wished them to die, but those who died had little effect on him. An effect that only got more muddled when he absorbed the final bit of Aether.
’It’s happening, but I barely notice it now.’
Lust was still consuming his mind.
Nothing he could do about it at the moment.
’At least I can still recognize it.’
Vale looked at his warriors.
"Good job, all of you."
His warriors nodded and kneeled.
Vale rubbed his chin, then looked at
Diana, owner of [Draw Back].
"Diana, congratulations on leveling up."
The inky monster smiled.
"Thank you, Master."
It had happened sometime during Level 9, but Vale had been much too distracted to notice.

[Deadeye] was an ability that enhanced her eyesight and aim. If she fully engaged it, then her mind would auto-aim for a couple of minutes.
Vale’s eyes drifted over the other survivors.
’Did they survive because they were strong? Or are they strong because they survived?’
In addition to Stacy, Diana, Alpha, and Edith, four numbered survived.
Sadly, none of them had leveled up.
Since Vale planned to not only restart the numbering but also make each survivor a platoon leader, it was time to give these survivors names.
First, Twenty-Nine, the Archer.
Vale looked over the small Archer, whose skin was nearly entirely black, with only a few splotches of pink on her right arm.
"Your name shall be Kera."
The Archer smiled.
"I accept it with honor."
Next up were the Warriors.
Sixteen, Thirty-Eight, and Forty.
Vale looked at Sixteen.
She was tall. Had the exact opposite coloration as Sable— mostly pink with a few areas of black.
"Your name is Ivory."
The Warrior nodded and accepted, then he continued on to Thirty-Eight.
Thirty-Eight was about the same height as Stacy, but her splotches were near a bisected fifty-fifty split.
"Your name shall be Luck."
Sadly, unlike the others, Luck didn’t seem too happy about her name, but she smiled anyway.
Lastly, Forty. Who was entirely splotched black. Except for the area around her eyes, which was pink, as if she wore an eye mask.
"And you, you will be Sable."
When Vale was finished, the warriors said in unison:
"Thank you, Master Lust."
With that over, Vale informed them of his plans for them, then temporarily divided them into two squads of four to cycle training and guard duty.
’It feels so peaceful...’
Something about being close to death the day before really made the following day that much more special.
Not that Vale was too happy about what Greed had done to him, or that he’d been forced into that those promises.
’But at least I get to take today in leisure.’
"Vale, we have a problem."
Salome’s voice snapped him out of his delusion.
’Oh no...’
Vale gulped.
"What happened?"
The succubus stood with Jaune’s loose clothes on. Her wings poked through the slits in the back.
"Your guest is causing some... issues outside."
***
’What the hell...’
On the cliff right outside the entrance, Vale looked down into the crucible of carnage below.
"It’s mayhem! How did this happen?!"
Salome sighed and pointed a little off to their right. There, a woman in a bathing suit sat on a floating golden platform in a lounge chair.
’Where did her clothes go!’
Her pale, long limbs were bare. The bathing suit barely covered her essential parts. Her blonde hair fell down from the backside of the loungechair like a river of gold.
To top it off, she had on black sunglasses.
Greed noticed Vale looking. She smiled up at him and waved.
Vale awkwardly waved back.
Salome sighed, then dragged her pointed finger toward the Scar’s bottom.
"A few moments ago, she unleashed her power and caused... all of that."
Where Salome had pointed, there was war.
Total war.
Countless beasts savagely charged one another with little regard for their own lives.
Some tackled others into the raging waters, only for neither to resurface.
Others were crushed beneath feet or had their necks punctured and ripped asunder
It wasn’t just normal beasts either.
While plenty were dungeonless rogues, there were also forces of Vale’s neighboring dungeons that he hadn’t found.
Vale was lost for words.
"Well... um."
’Shit.’
Population control was screwed.
Aether density control as well.
But that wasn’t even the worst of it...
"Fuck."
A singular man was peering down at Greed from the top of the Teracotta Scar.
This man wore a full suit of armor and gripped the pommel of the sword at his side with one hand, while holding his helmet in the other. He looked old, with white hair and a long beard, and he had a scar on his chin.
Vale and Salome had hidden themselves from view before they could be seen, but Greed didn’t care to hide at all.
In fact...
’It was most likely her presence that lured that man here.’
A few moments later, Mias appeared next to Vale, having completed his mission quickly.
A little too fast, even.
"Master Vale, good news and bad news. The good news is that there was an Akkuron camp nearby. I was able to dump the robe with relative ease. The bad news is the Akkuron camp nearby. Also, most of their army is uh..."
Mias pointed up.
Vale slapped his head.
"We’re fucked!"
Salome said quietly.
"It’s not all bad, I don’t think they spotted us."
A moment later, Greed screamed from the center of the gorge, her voice echoing loudly:
"Hey, Lust! You want to come out here with me?"
