Chapter 315: Martydom
Vale patted Awilix on the back as he entered the level flooring of his dungeon.
“Glad to see you’ve finally survived a battle without coming out a bloody mess.”
Stumbling a little, Awilix turned and hissed:
“And I see you finally grew brave enough to… what? Walk a few steps outside the dungeon?”
Shrugging with a smug look on his face, Vale muttered:
“I’ll have you know I love being cooped up in my dungeon.”
Salome, to Vale’s left, blushed a little, remembering his reasoning for that statement. Then she added:
“Though, weren’t our opponents a little weak?”
Vale replied:
“They were. But as far as I’m concerned, it’s a victory.”
At the word ‘victory,’ a corporealized Mias tilted his head away while wearing a sour look.
‘Ah… figured.’
Mias was more aware of the battle than anyone else — he still had a portion of himself playing eyes in the sky and all — meaning he also knew what Vale already suspected: the force Vale faced was a test.
Their battle was most definitely witnessed by the true juggernauts of the anti-Lust alliance. Thankfully, Vale’s blade hid his side of the battle, but knowledge of Ximena’s capabilities was now known.
And, with a few flyers on the outside having escaped the battle, they could relay firsthand accounts of her potential weaknesses.
They also learned Vale could transport warriors somewhere else to fight. Obviously, not how, but that meant they’d be wary of it from now on.
Finally…
It was a near certainty that one of the watchers or survivors had noticed Mias’ emergence from stealth.
With that ability of his revealed, they’d be preparing countermeasures against it.
Despite losing very few, only about six warriors, it wasn’t a stretch to say Lust had been utterly crushed and decimated by this skirmish.
But no reason to dampen morale by explaining it. Besides, it was clear Ximena and Salome had also reached that conclusion as well.
Mias floated down and next to Vale, then asked:
“So, what are our next steps?”
Glancing at the Akkuron communications room, he noticed Quill launch from her chair upon spotting him.
“I would say plan our next offensive, but it appears we might have to put that on the back burner.”
Vale stopped in his tracks. The entire Legion followed suit, all of their eyes drawn the same direction as his. Toward a nervous, blushing woman.
“Quill. Is there something you want from me?”
“No— actually, uh, yes! Wait—no. Uhhh… Sir Grady! Sir Grady wants you.”
Vale, deactivating [Charm], smiled warmly, then asked:
“Grady wants me? Physically?”
Awilix clicked her tongue.
“Why’d you say it like that, dumbass?” Awilix then added quietly, “And who the hell is Grady? And this bitch?”
Quill started upon seeing the unknown woman who curiously peered around Vale’s waist, studying Quill while muttering obscenities.
“Y-yes. Tomorrow, he wants you to join him in o-our camp.”
Her trepidatious eyes scanned to the right, finding more forces she’d never seen before.
Her nerves were understandable. After all, she’d been in Lust for an entire month and only now learned that her landlord had been hiding Demons in his basement. Let alone, being a weak girl looking upon a tide of inhuman warriors, most of whom were drenched in blood.
Quill was merely a curious girl who liked to play around with radio and had gotten noticed for her genius and sent to war!
“In his camp? I see.”
‘Now that I’ve made the Scar into a crucible of blood, he wants to show me off.’
In other words, Celestia had seen Vale act in person. And, while the scenes of slaughter were still fresh in their minds, now was the best time to piss Celestia off.
‘Wait… has Grady been waiting for this?!’
No wonder they hadn’t called for him after he told them of his war below.
Vale added:
“That’s not too much of a hassle.”
Looking over his shoulder at Salome, he added:
“But she is coming with me as well. Do inform him.”
Salome launched a sinister smile at Quill, currently wearing her initial seductress outfit. For some reason, Salome didn’t seem to like her too much despite just meeting her.
“Hello, girl.”
“H-hello?”
Salome walked off without saying more.
Vale sighed, then pointed his thumb to his right.
“Sorry about that. Perhaps their stares were annoying her.”
The curious Akkuron soldiers quickly retreated back into their planning room.
Vale looked over at his soldiers, then said:
“All of you go back to your positions. Expect orders tomorrow for our next directive.”
His Legion collectively nodded.
“Understood!”
All of the Warriors, Archers, and Mages walked off, leaving only Awilix and Mias with Vale. Ximena had been left outside to cover the entrance as well as spare the rest from [Absolute Zero].
Mias, who was also a new sight for Quill, bowed lightly and said:
“Hello, Quill.”
Quill looked over at him, then down at his eyes.
“Eek!”
Mias, paying it no mind, said:
“For one reason or another, I had to hide before… and it’s been killing me. But, would you mind explaining that technology to me?”
Mias pointed behind Quill, at the wired telegraph. The same one that Ximena had already destroyed a few times by accident.
‘Ah, that’s right.’
It must have been torture for the small man, being unable to ask these questions. But now…
‘I’m sorry, Quill, Sandra, all of you…’
For the next few hours, days even, they’d have to answer nonstop questions, as with each answer, there was bound to be something else Mias grew curious about.
Quill jumped and screeched while pointing.
“Argh!”
‘Huh?’
Vale looked over at Awilix, the target of her pointing, only to see a torrent of dark blood pouring out from her lips.
Wasting no time on screaming or asking what was wrong, Vale scooped Awilix into his arms and dashed through his dungeon, making for Naiad.
‘I knew I should have been suspicious!’
There was no way Awilix would end a battle in a healthy state.
Vale remembered the last being she killed.
She’d been poisoned.
