Chapter 314: Curated Carnage
Chapter 314: Curated Carnage
Carnage.
That was the result of surrounding a Demon.
Especially one who healed from the bodies thrown at it. Their reliance on numbers was really coming back to bite them.
But… a few had noticed Vale all along and began charging at him, shooting arrows and whatnot.
However…
Vale’s perception was growing more keen by the second. His body was enhancing, growing stronger. Each drop of blood spilled swelled his power.
And with the amount of blood [Domain] had tasted, Vale’s power reigned supreme.
He barely had to try to deflect the projectiles with the back of his gauntlet, and any of the warriors who did make it to him were cut down by his blade.
Even the dragonkin warriors with their thick scales started to die to his slashing — he lost the need to methodically thrust to pierce their armor.
Not only that, it seemed Drakthar was much more important than Vale had surmised.
With it dead, all order was lost. Even within the dragonkin.
The space had become less a place of battle, more a place of massacre.
A massacre that only worsened in scale when Awilix recalled the [Eclipse]…
Vale, wading through enemy forces, watched as a pale moonlight suffused with a golden aura, surrounding the dancing cat like a shell.
The cat, which beautifully rampaged through the rest of the forces, systematically executed them.
In no time, her claw pierced the last enemy, the spider-humanoid.
[Your Champion, Awilix, has slain Emergent Mutant Aria, Champion of Arachne]
Vale wasted no time in spouting off an order.
“Absorb the shards you can, and I will let us out in thirty seconds.”
And the three did just that. Digging into the corpses’ chests, they crushed and absorbed as many shards as they could. Sadly, unlike when the dungeon swallowed a warrior, Vale only seemed to gain a single Aether when absorbing the shard directly.
Finally, when his timer was up, Salome healed him with [Vitality Drain], and he prepared to collapse the [Domain].

A man stood on the edge of the Scar, peering down into the deep depths. Below lay the harrowing scene of a myriad of monsters fighting.
“It’s disgusting.”
The man clenched his fist as he watched Lust’s small force combat the monster mash.
The man, Chambord, cursed under his breath.
“Disgusting, revolting, abhorrent, dastardly!”
He wanted to go down there himself. Slaughter them all. Tear them limb from limb and watch them cry.
He especially wanted to do so to the Vice’s forces. Mainly that terrifying crystal woman who was merely wading through the legion of monsters, making little apparent moves, yet her opponents dropped dead nonetheless.
There was also the smoky wraith who went around executing the scaled ones.
But alas, he could not descend to butcher them.
His freedom to act had been denied by Saint Rivania. However, he vowed to pay them a crimson visit the moment that sanction was lifted from him.
“Look. Look at them all. Squirming like it means something.”
His eyes narrowed, following the most peculiar of them all.
The Master of Vice, who’d finally reemerged after absconding into nothingness with half of the various monsters’ forces.
And when he came back, so too did a mass of corpses. Most fell down the rocky slopes into the jungle below.
Chambord’s gaze drifted to the quiet man at his side. One who looked down upon the scene with a look of horror, Kyler.
“Something the matter, weakling?”
But the wide-eyed scout didn’t respond, too lost in his thoughts.
‘There’s no way the goddess gave birth to this scar… there’s no way she’d open the gate to hell.’
But before him, hell blossomed in bloody clarity.
He could also tell that the same ones unleashing hell upon those monsters must have been the ones who’d slaughtered the inhabitants of Liora.
It wasn’t Akkuron, after all.
‘A-are we fighting the right enemy?’
Kyler’s eyes lifted, peering across the impossibly wide gorge, spotting Akkuron’s own scouting party watching the disgusting scene below.
By the time Kyler’s eyes drifted back to the sea of blood, it was over.
Lust, the Vice, had begun to retreat with its entire force intact. There didn’t seem to be a single corpse in the area of the main battle.
‘I thought Lust was supposed to be weak!’
Yet, Lust, only Emergent like Kyler and the beasts he had just faced, had managed to achieve such an overwhelming victory.
Apostle Chambord seemed to think little of it. Caring only to scorn and hate, vowing to crush.
But Kyler? Kyler was horrified.
They were supposed to let that monster go unchecked? Let it grow more powerful? All to do what? Fight their own kind…?
Other humans?
Lust and his force disappeared under the thicket, but his form clung to Kyler’s mind.
Clenching his fist, a daring thought crept into his mind.
‘T-this war is nonsense!’
Didn’t they know what was happening in the world?!
The spread of Corruption and dungeons?!
“Kyler, there’s a letter for you from Apostle Luke.”
The scout looked over his shoulder at the young, unassuming woman.
‘For me?’
Seeing as there wasn’t anything left to see down below, Kyler retreated back to the camp. Once inside, he retrieved the note his friend had sent him.
As he read the contents, he choked on his own spit.
But at the same time…
Resolve.
Resolve welled in his heart and his being.
‘Luke wants my assistance in killing Lust?’
What a perfect time to receive such a request.
‘A storm is coming to the Scar.’
A raging storm of blood.

Vale huffed as he stepped inside the gorge.
‘W-we won!’
And overwhelmingly at that!
The only bad things to come from the day’s events were a few deaths in the distraction team and that they’d revealed many of their trump cards.
Still…
They’d taken on an alliance of seventeen dungeons and came away having killed two and embarrassed the rest.
However…
Vale couldn’t help but notice that, of the Champions sent, the highest ranked was Mutant.
Pointing toward a scary idea…
That mass was never meant to even pose a threat to Lust.
It was a test.
