Chapter 1545 1545: Falling Ice (Part 1)
Despite the chaos caused by the azure tree, the area was naturally divided into two battlefields.
Adam faced the man, while Alexia moved toward the monsters that feared her far more than she feared them.
"You know, I'm surprised you didn't argue with him," Louis's voice rang in her head. "This Phantom... If I had more information, I could probably establish his identity. He's strong, strong enough to be a challenge."
"Yeah, I'm a little upset that I left this fight behind, but, maybe I'm wrong, but I think they'll cause a lot more trouble."
She pointed ahead.
Crack. Crack. Crack.
From the very beginning of the azure tree's actions, monsters continued to appear from underground. There were several hundred monsters in this small area that the azure tree had not yet managed to devour.
Perhaps it had kept an army of the dead for just such occasions, as this was the only way the azure tree could protect itself.
"Do you want us to do it?" Louis asked.
In response, Alexia shook her head.
"No, not now. If Adam isn't around, we might not succeed. Besides, you feel it too, right?"
Louis's expression became more serious than ever as he stared at the azure tree.
"Sure, the Ancient Frost is closer than ever. I don't know exactly where it is, but it's definitely connected to this tree or pond. One of the two."
Bam.
Alexia clenched her fists before rushing into battle. She was alone against dozens of zombie monsters.
What more could an insatiable warrior like her want?
Adam was in a different situation.
Neither he nor the man had taken a single step. It was as if they knew that whoever attacked first would lose.
Step.
Gradually, the man's patience came to an end as he moved forward, leaning his torso and gripping his lance tightly.
Adam's pupils narrowed as the man's frame trembled and the ground behind him exploded from the sheer power of the man's legs.
One rush and a split second.
That was enough for the dark lance to reflect in his eyes.
At the last moment, Adam tapped his staff as he found himself several meters to the side.
Whoooooooosh.
A powerful gust of wind swept forward following the man's attack, sweeping away everything in its path.
Adam dodged the attack at the last moment, or... so he thought?
Gush!
Blood gushed from his shoulder, causing his face to pale.
Adam touched the wound to make sure it had really happened. Blood covered his fingers.
'How? Didn't I dodge? How fast is he really if even that wasn't enough?'
The man swung his lance, flinging drops of blood onto the cold ground before taking his stance again.
This time, he acted with more confidence.
His stance reflected a deadly threat, as if he and his lance had become one, and he himself was now a weapon.
Thump.
Adam's heart sank when he realized he couldn't dodge or block this attack.
'He's going to be even faster and stronger? Wait, that means—!'
SLASH!
Blood spurted from Adam's right side as the man landed several meters behind him.
Feeling only coldness instead of pain, Adam collapsed to one knee, clutching his side. The bleeding only stopped when he directed his energy toward the wound.
He did it automatically, while his mind was preoccupied with other things.
It wasn't like a fight between two equal opponents, but more like a teacher beating his student.
"Adam..." Silvana murmured. "You may not withstand the next attack, and it looks like he's going to repeat it!"
She was right; the man took his previous stance again. It was his best move, the one he was going to use to win this fight.
"Nah, it'll be fine. I have an idea."
Adam spat out a clot of blood and stood up.
"I won't lie. If he were alive and possessed his mind and not just his instincts, I wouldn't stand a chance. This Phantom... What led to the death of someone like him?"
He grabbed the black staff with both hands as the man leaned his torso forward.
In an instant, the man had already covered half the distance and was about to inflict a third wound on Adam, but Adam had other ideas.
He realized that the man would repeat the same attack over and over again. So, he decided to take advantage of this.
Crack.
Adam broke the black staff as the purple flame covered the two sharp tips. With the next swing, he opened a rift in front of him that teleported him forward.
With a fierce gust of wind, the man stopped, but this time he did not achieve his goal.
He realized that Adam had dodged his attack as he spun around sharply.
Unfortunately for him, he lost his momentum, which was so important to him.
Holding tightly to the two black rods into which his staff had split, Adam jumped on the man, knocking him to the ground.
In a wild rush, Adam grabbed the rods tightly and, like a fury beast, began to rain blows down on the man.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
Adam struck as fast and as hard as he could. His strikes merged into a purple blur of attacks, while he maintained his terrifying pace.
Adam did not aim for any specific spot. He knew that the azure tree would be able to revive the man even if he were headless.
Thus, he struck wherever he could until nothing remained of the man but torn pieces of flesh in a bloody pool.
"Agh... Agh... Agh..."
Adam breathed heavily as he looked at the bloody mess he had made in just a few seconds.
"Did I win...?" His voice was choppy as he looked at his trembling hands.
He needed time to recover from such a series of attacks, but he didn't have time for that as Silvana's scream rang out.
'Adam! Alexia needs your help!'
"Gh?"
He spun around only to see hundreds of monsters surrounding Alexia. Behind their massive bodies, only her exhausted silhouette was visible.
"Shit! Silvana, we have to—!"
She was ready to appear next to Adam, but at that moment, they stopped as Louis appeared next to Alexia in his spectral form and hugged her tightly from behind.
It was time for them to show their power.
