Chapter 1559: Return to Battle
Chapter 1559: Return to Battle
’I must eliminate him before he becomes stronger.’
Vaarh’s gaze was fixed solely on Adam.
’If he advances to the next level, what awaits me but defeat?’
Then, he shifted his glare to Alexia.
’This girl... She has gained impressive power. But, no matter how hard she tries, I don’t feel threatened by her. Perhaps she can give me a decent fight and even wound me, but die by her hand? I doubt that will happen in any of the worlds.’
Vaarh was not as aggressive as Menax, nor as wild as Erada.
He analyzed the battlefield, trying to use every opportunity to achieve victory and get as much as possible from his actions.
That was what had led him to his peak power, and he was going to return there.
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
Vaarh’s aura trembled as electrical discharges from the storm ran through his body, slowly lowering him to the ground.
"Agh?" Alexia looked up, not expecting Vaarh to decide to return to the battlefield from his comfortable position.
Adam prepared for battle as well as Alexia, who was trying to regain her senses. She had expended a lot of energy on her last ability, but her aura was still strong.
Step.
Vaarh landed as he leaned forward and swung his spear back as if he were preparing for a quick dash similar to Adam’s path.
"He’s coming!" Alexia exclaimed as electrical discharges ran through Vaarh’s frame.
Strangely enough, this time his target was not Adam and Alexia, his gaze was directed at the monsters next to him.
Whooooooosh.
In a heartbeat, Vaarh turned into a white flash that moved at tremendous speed from one ice statue to another, leaving a white trail behind him.
Vaarh was moving so fast that the iron boots on his feet began to heat up and turn red, but that didn’t stop him.
"What the... What the hell is he trying to do?" Alexia was confused.
Adam narrowed his eyes, and soon the realization struck him, but it was already too late.
"Wait, he is—!"
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Vaarh touched the ice statues with his hand and the blunt tip of his spear. With each touch, he sent a light electric discharge into the statue, not powerful enough to hurt the monsters inside, but strong enough to break the ice layer.
Considering how fast Vaarh was moving, he was breaking several statues per second and was going to continue doing so until he freed every monster from its icy confinement.
Crack. Crack. Crack.
The frost fragments fell to the ground one after another, rushing past Alexia’s wide-open eyes.
Sure, Vaarh couldn’t resurrect the monsters that had died from the ice peaks. But, at the snow expanse, there were still more than a hundred Black Threat Monsters, their movements blocked by simple ice.
"This b-bastard! Why is he doing this?!" Alexia shouted in fury as the cold wind swirled around her.
"Wait!" Adam exclaimed, seeing that Alexia was about to use the frost seal again.
"I’ll kill him!"
Gush!
A stream of blood spurted from Alexia’s mouth, flooding the white snow in front of her in crimson paint.
Alexia was strong, but using her strongest ability twice in a row was too much even for her.
She needed some time to recover, but they didn’t have even a minute.
Whooooooosh.
Clearing away the snow in his path, Vaarh came to a sudden halt at the same spot where he had started.
"Gha... Gha... Gha..."
His breath was ragged.
Hot air surrounded him, wisps of steam rose from his scorching body, and beads of sweat trickled down his sharp face.
But, despite the effort, he had achieved his goal.
"Rgh!"
"Rark!"
"Grhhh!"
The hundred or so freed monsters were heading their way. Now, they were not only acting on Vaarh’s orders, but they also hated Alexia for putting them in mortal danger.
It was no longer a 2 vs. 1 fight, but 2 vs. 100.
Considering that Alexia had not yet recovered, Adam found himself in an even worse situation than a few minutes ago.
"Shit... I can’t do anything." Alexia slammed her fist into the ground, clenching her jaw tightly.
Twitch. Twitch. Twitch.
Adam’s fingertips twitched as his heart began to beat faster, not from excitement as it usually did, but from growing fear.
He saw no way out of this situation. Even if he killed all the monsters, he would be so exhausted that Vaarh would destroy him with his next thunder strike.
’Adam, I’m ready.’
Silvana’s voice rang out in his mind.
’Agh? What are you talking about?’
Confidence filled Silvana’s eyes.
’The Evolution Vein has finally completely absorbed all the ancient energy I directed to it. If you need my power, use it at any moment.’
Thump. Thump. Thump.
Dozens of monsters approached them, surrounding them on all sides. Soon, Vaarh’s figure disappeared behind the backs of the great beasts, hiding him from Adam’s gaze. But even without seeing Vaarh, Adam knew that Vaarh would soon recover.
’He did this because it’s more advantageous for him than shooting lightning bolts at us from above. I see... In that case, I have no choice but to use everything I have.’
Step. Step. Step.
Adam stepped forward, his frame casting a shadow over Alexia.
"A-Adam?" She murmured, caught off guard.
In response, he spread his arms wide as his black-and-white aura burst forth in a powerful flame.
"Don’t worry, it’s my turn to help you. It may not lead us to victory right away, but..."
His eyes darkened, and his voice filled with coldness.
"After what I’m about to do, no one here will be left alive."
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
With a tremor in his aura, Silvana appeared beside him.
"Wait, Adam!" Alexia exclaimed, knowing what he wanted to do. "You won’t be able to cut them all with one slash!"
He knew that, which was why he was using this ability now.
The great scissors appeared in front of him and Silvana, but this time Silvana didn’t move. She didn’t touch the scissors and just stayed behind Adam.
Clutch. Clutch.
Adam grabbed the imaginary scissors firmly by the handles before pulling them to the side. The stitch burst as the pieces of the scissors ended up in his hands.
The two great blades were now in his grip and under his complete control.
