Chapter 1562: Hail of Blades (Part 1)
Chapter 1562: Hail of Blades (Part 1)
Despite fighting alone against two opponents, Vaarh proved himself more than worthy. Neither Adam nor Alexia was able to overwhelm him.
What’s more, with his final attack, Vaarh threw them both aside.
He wasn’t just fighting them alone, he was winning. His reflexes, speed, and striking power were on another level.
Perhaps if Alexia had used her ice ability and become virtually invincible again for a short time, she could have put Vaarh in a difficult position. But she didn’t have the energy for that, not yet.
So, they had no choice but to fight Vaarh until one of them ran out of strength or tried something new.
"What? Do you have an idea?" Adam asked, confused.
Silvana was his most valuable ally, but usually during battle, he made all the calls. He was the one who fought and felt the battlefield, and he also had a wealth of experience.
If Silvana had a plan, it had to be something special, something even Adam himself didn’t know about yet.
"Yes, it has to do with your new ability. I know a little more than you do. So... listen to me carefully. Whether we win or not depends on this.’
Sure, Adam remembered that he had to find one of the conditions for the Third Grand Star here, but he couldn’t think about that now. His priority was Vaarh, or rather, defeating him.
Neither Vaarh nor Alexia knew what was going on between Adam and Silvana, but soon Alexia heard Louis’s voice.
"Hey, Adam, we need you to freeze Vaarh. It’ll be enough to stop him for half a second. We can try to freeze his feet to the ground. That should work."
"Hmm?" Alexia raised an eyebrow in indignation. "I don’t have enough energy for any of my abilities to be powerful enough for that. He should have thought of that earlier!"
Louis shook his head.
"Are you sure about that?"
"Agh?"
"Maybe you don’t have enough star energy right now, but you have the ancient one."
Alexia’s eyes widened.
"Huh... Do you realize how little of that energy I have?"
Louis shrugged.
"You have enough for one attack, don’t you?"
Alexia grinned widely as an idea came to her.
"Of course. I’ll do it!"
Vaarh watched from the sidelines. He didn’t attack them not only because he preferred to stay on the defensive, as it was more effective, but also because he was trying to restore as much energy as possible.
Even though he could hold off the two of them on his own, his energy reserves were quickly depleting.
"I have to hold out a little longer. Monsters..." He looked around. "They couldn’t play the role I wanted them to, but I can’t count on them anymore. One more minute and victory will be mine."
He narrowed his eyes, which became unusually deep for a moment.
’Soon, I’ll remember how to do it. I can feel it. There’s no better way to learn something or taste blood again than fighting strong enemies!’
Step.
Alexia stepped forward, drawing Vaarh’s attention. She didn’t use any abilities, only her Nexus.
At the same time, Adam closed his eyes for some reason and lowered his blades to the ground. He completely withdrew from the fight.
Vaarh didn’t know what Adam was doing, but he knew it couldn’t end well for him.
He had to stop Adam.
’Now!’
Whooooosh.
Vaarh lunged forward, but a menacing shadow immediately appeared before him.
"Where are you going, bastard?" Alexia looked down on him arrogantly before bringing her fist down on him.
There was no response as Vaarh simply reflected her strike with his palm.
But Alexia was ready for this as she spun around and her foot flew toward Vaarh like a spear.
Whooooosh.
Vaarh tilted his head to the side as Alexia’s iron boot whizzed past his face. The sharp edge left a cut on his cheek, but it didn’t cause any emotion on his face.
Bam! Bam! Bam!
A series of rapid strikes rained down on Vaarh, but he either dodged or blocked each one.
Alexia did not attack mindlessly. She aimed for Vaarh’s weakest points, and soon she decided to take a risk. Everything had started for this moment.
Her hand reached for his chest.
Vaarh leaned back, expecting that to be Alexia’s goal, but soon he realized that wasn’t the case at all.
Clutch.
She grabbed Vaarh’s spear tightly with one hand as her second fist came down on him from above.
Without panic in his eyes, Vaarh stopped her fist, squeezing it with all his strength, just as she had his spear.
"What are you doing?" Vaarh frowned, pressing down on Alexia. "You do realize you’ll never get my weapon? You’re not strong enough for that!"
With his roar, Vaarh leaned forward, causing Alexia’s legs to tremble as Vaarh loomed over her.
He was right, Alexia wasn’t strong enough to overpower Vaarh in a pure physical strength contest. She didn’t want to admit it because physical might had always been her pride, but for the sake of the plan, she was willing to do so.
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
Alexia’s legs were shaking.
A little more, and her feet would sink into the ground. The ice had already cracked beneath her. Her attempt to take the spear from Vaarh had ended in complete failure, or... was it?
"Hah, you’re actually just as arrogant a bastard as we are, aren’t you?" Alexia snorted, despite the mounting pressure. "It’s not dragon pride anymore, but something much higher."
Vaarh narrowed his eyes.
"Even if that’s true, so what? Sometimes you just have to be arrogant enough to survive and win."
Alexia grinned widely.
"Yeah, I totally agree. That’s exactly why you’re going to lose, asshole!"
For a split second, the purple flows appeared before Alexia as she took a deep breath.
Vaarh’s entire body jerked as she prepared to dodge, but it was already too late.
Her frost breath, full of ancient energy, froze his feet to the ground.
But for Vaarh, that wasn’t the worst news, because Adam opened his eyes and the imaginary blades soared around him.
They were ready to end the long life of the dragon before them.
