Chapter 1599: Distance Steps
Chapter 1599: Distance Steps
Even though the Ice Path was under the supervision of the Old Light, the only powerful faction in the Primal Lands besides the clans, from time to time, problems arose at the Ice Path.
Even the Befallen Crown could not control every part of the Ice Path. This network of tunnels was too large, and it was physically impossible to do so.
Thus, explosions, the aftermath of battles, or simply natural disasters could result in the blocking or even destruction of a tunnel.
It was unlikely that anything irreparable could happen, but if Adam and Alexia were here alone without Ramilo, they would be stuck at this point for a long time.
"What?" Alexia raised an eyebrow. "Where did this piece of ice come from?"
Ramilo shrugged.
"Who knows? It’s been quite a while since I used this tunnel. If it’s still here, then it happened very recently. Otherwise, someone would have already removed it."
"Is there a way around?" Adam asked, pointing back. "A few minutes ago, we passed two passages. Maybe we should go there?"
Ramilo grinned.
"Hey, didn’t you hear what I said? I’ll solve this problem. Goen asked me to take you to the Citadel, so leave all the work to me."
Adam and Alexia exchanged glances. They didn’t doubt Ramilo’s strength, but because of his harmless appearance, they didn’t believe he could easily get rid of the ice block.
’This isn’t ordinary ice, we’re in the Primal Lands. If ordinary people were faced with such a large piece of ice, they would need tons of explosives.’
If Adam needed to cut through a large object devoid of energy, even if it were a titanium block, he would do it with ease, but one wrong blow to the wall here could end up breaking his arm.
Tap.
Ramilo jumped off the earthworm and hummed as he headed toward the ice block.
He stopped right in front of it, standing under the light of eight rays coming from the worm’s eyes, like a miner in front of a collapsed mine.
"Alright, I didn’t come here for nothing."
Step.
Ramilo took a step back and raised his hand to strike.
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
His soft and seemingly weak arm, covered in blue fur, trembled and suddenly grew larger. The muscles became inflated and full of strength, and Ramilo’s grin widened.
"GHAAAA!"
She roared, slamming his fist right into the center of the ice block.
The shockwave ran through the entire tunnel, causing even the earthworms to flinch.
Crash. Crash. Crash.
Cracks ran across the icy surface, while pieces of ice fell at Ramilo’s feet one after another.
"W-Wait...
Are you serious?" Alexia blinked as the giant block of ice crumbled into pieces.
Rumble! Rumble! Rumble!
The rumbling echoed through the tunnel as one ice crystal fell after another until nothing remained in front of Ramilo but ice debris covering the floor of the tunnel.
Clap. Clap. Clap.
He brushed the dust off his palms and turned around.
"Job done!"
In one leap, he returned to the earthworm.
Adam couldn’t believe his eyes.
"You did it with just one hit?"
"Of course! That’s not all I’m capable of! Now, it’s time to move on!"
As if on his command, the earthworm trembled and moved forward, the ice crystals unable to hinder its great body.
"Do problems like this happen often here?" Adam asked.
Ramilo nodded.
"Yeah, the Primal Lands are a very active region. Hahaha, we’re lucky we didn’t run into anyone in battle, that would have been awkward."
Alexia blinked. "Are you saying that instead of going home, we might end up in the middle of a battle?"
"Well, even if that happens, we’ll just wait for the battle to end or choose another passage. It’s not the biggest problem."
Adam narrowed his eyes.
’If two monsters fighting each other isn’t the biggest problem, then what should we be afraid of?’ He thought, looking around.
Adam didn’t ask any questions. He trusted Ramilo and hoped they would reach the Citadel without incident.
Still, he and Silvana were worried because they hadn’t even left the Primal Lands yet, which meant anything could happen here.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
The earthworm continued to move forward, breaking the soft rock that brushed against its hard plates. The block of ice was far behind them, and in less than half an hour, they should leave the Primal Lands.
At least that’s what Ramilo said, who remained surprisingly calm and relaxed the whole way.
"You’re lucky. Usually a lot happens in the Primal Lands, but we’re approaching the border, and it looks like there won’t be any problems!"
Alexia rested her cheek on her hand. "Pffft! Isn’t that how it should be?"
"Well, even if the Old Light watches over the Ice Path, that doesn’t mean we control everything here. There was a case when one of the tunnels was destroyed during a battle, and everyone just ignored it for more than ten years!"
"Agh?" Adam was confused. "What happened then?"
Ramilo waved his hand.
"Nothing special. When it started to bother someone, they quickly got rid of the problem. Although it was much more difficult than the ice block earlier. It took them several days to repair that part of the tunnel."
’Hah,’ Adam chuckled inwardly. ’It’s as if I’m not in dangerous monster territory, but talking to a subway station engineer. Although what difference does it make if the essence is similar? We have iron trains, and they have earth worms.’
Ramilo turned around. He wanted to say something as his expression froze abruptly.
Step. Step. Step.
Powerful footsteps echoed, becoming clearer as they approached.
Adam and Alexia turned simultaneously to see a tall man at the other end of the earth worm.
Unlike Ramilo and the Old Horn, he was in his human form, looking just like Adam and Alexia.
His thick black hair fell to his shoulders, his amber eyes flashed with fire, and a slight smirk played on his face, exuding arrogance and confidence in his abilities.
With each step he took, his black and red jacket swayed slightly, reminiscent of the robes of a nobleman, some important person, as did his strict trousers and heavy black boots.
"Well..."
Ramilo scratched the back of his head.
"There you go with your problems."
