Chapter 1601 1601: Battle in the Tunnel
Chapter 1601 1601: Battle in the Tunnel
Adam and Alexia had been in the Primal Lands for too little time to understand how the current hierarchy was structured.
All they knew was that the clans and the Old Light were the only superpowers here, but they didn't know how powerful each clan was.
'Zargos... Is he the leader of his clan or just an important member?' Adam wondered as he looked at the crimson flame, red as blood, enveloping Zargos's fists.
His gaze turned to Ramilo, who, unlike his opponent, was in no hurry to use his energy.
'Does he really expect to win with pure physical power alone?'
Strangely enough, Zargos noticed this as well.
"Ramilo, are you trying to show off in front of the youths?" His eyes were calm. "Are you underestimating me?"
"Me?" Ramilo patted himself on the chest. "Come on, Zargos, everyone in the Primal Lands knows how powerful you and the other members of your clan are."
"But..."
Ramilo's voice lowered as a gleam passed over his fangs.
"By coming here, you forgot who the main power in our region is!"
Zargos waved his hand carelessly, fiery particles flashing before his eyes.
"It's not the power of the faction that matters, but what its individual members are capable of. There may be a million monsters in the faction, but if you can all be destroyed with a wave of the hand, what's the point?"
"Hah, you're right, but unfortunately for you, I'm part of the Old Light and not some clan for a very simple reason!"
Zargos raised an eyebrow, waiting for him to continue.
Clap!
Ramilo banged his fists together.
"I am very strong!"
In response, Zargos smirked.
"Either way, Adam Vinter will be mine." He glanced at Adam and Alexia. "You two, my advice is to move to the very edge of the earth worm and hide behind the stone plate. I don't want to hurt you with an accidental attack."
Ramilo shrugged.
"What can I say? He's right. We don't have much space, so you should listen to him for your own safety."
Alexia rolled her eyes, but did as they said. Now, even Adam puffed out his cheeks.
'Shit, what the hell is going on here?' He complained inwardly. 'This is the second time today that someone wants to kill me!'
That was true, but what really annoyed him was something else: he couldn't defend himself. Last time it was Goen, and now it was Ramilo's turn.
Sure, Zargos wasn't as aggressive as Liliane and the fifth team, but in the end, they both had the same goal — to capture Adam and bring him to the Befallen Crown. The only difference was that one of them was doing it on orders, while the other was doing it for a valuable reward.
'Tsk, how long will this continue?'
Silvana nodded. 'Calm down. Until you become strong enough, this will happen occasionally. The only solution is to go on missions to safer regions.'
Adam glanced to the side.
'Do you think it would be better to return to the Tarnished Lands?'
Silvana nodded. 'Most likely, yes. Although perhaps another part of the Primal Lands would not be as dangerous. It all depends on how the local clans and members of the Old Light treat you.'
It was a good suggestion, but Adam had his doubts.
'I don't know about that...'
'W-Why?' Silvana was confused.
'The remaining two conditions don't sound like I'll be able to get them anywhere in a safe area. The Blood of God and Bottomless Void... Tsk, I hope it will be easier than fighting Vaarh.'
Adam wanted it to be so, but deep down, he knew that would hardly be the case.
Now, he couldn't even get out of the Primal Lands, as almost everyone was hunting him and wanted to capture him.
"Pfffft!" Alexia snorted, watching the battle begin. "They just know I'm too strong, so they don't even try to capture me!"
Perhaps it was foolish in some ways, but Alexia didn't like that no one was trying to capture her, or rather, that all the attention was focused on Adam.
It was indirect proof that she was weaker than Adam, that the other monsters didn't see her as a threat or valuable, and that was bad news for her.
"You'll see! Next time, some powerful monster will come to fight me instead of you!" She shouted, looking at Adam with puffed cheeks.
Adam scratched his cheek.
"You do understand that I don't need any of this and that it's not something to be jealous of, right?"
In response, Alexia just stuck out her tongue and turned away.
"Hah." Zargos chuckled. "Do you want the powerful of this world to pay attention to you? If so, then you have to measure up, girl. Now, you're just a strong K4-Phantom and nothing more."
Step. Step. Step.
Ramilo walked forward, relaxed as soon as the shadow of his massive body fell on Zargos.
"Hey, Zargos, is it just me, or should all your attention be on your opponent?"
Ramilo grinned widely, revealing all his long fangs, and his eyes no longer looked kind and harmless. Now his pupils were narrowed, and his gaze was full of bloodlust.
Still, not a single muscle on Zargos's face twitched.
"Sure. Even if I close my eyes, I'll still know where you are. Not a single step you take will escape my gaze."
Ramilo swung his arm back, ready to strike.
Step!
Zargos reacted instantly as he stepped forward, and a bright flame flared in his fist.
The flaming blast erupted as the crushing impact threw Ramilo dozens of meters back.
The massive monster flew past Adam's shocked eyes. He followed the trail of smoke, catching up with Ramilo, who was still in flight.
Like a professional athlete, Ramilo flipped in the air, momentarily resembling a fluffy ball, before landing firmly on his feet.
"Hmm?"
He glanced down, brushing embers from his chest. Part of his blue fur was now a black, burnt patch.
Zargos spread his arms wide, a smirk playing on his face.
"Bigger isn't always better, is it?"
