Chapter 1723 1723: Sounds
Chapter 1723 1723: Sounds
The one thing every monster in the Hollow Lands was certain of regarding Zin was that sounds were his primary power. He could wield this in various ways. Few understood exactly how it worked, but it was undoubtedly his power.
A single snap of his fingers could inflict a serious wound on his opponent's chest. Batar had experienced this firsthand.
But what about a clap?
Unfortunately, the answer to that question was about to be learned by Narha, who, along with Kelya, had decided to attack Zin.
CLAP!
A deafening snap rang out as Narha was the target of all that power.
She was fast and agile, in that regard, she surpassed Batar and Kelya, but… she was far from Zin's level, let alone the speed of sound at such a distance.
From the strain, her eyes filled with blood, and blood gushed from her ears. With great difficulty, her head managed not to explode, though all her veins swelled violently, pulsing against her face.
There was no point in mentioning that Narha was stunned and didn't understand what was happening. It was obvious to everyone on the battlefield.
Tap.
Zin spun around sharply as his second arm swept out in a wide arc.
All Narha could do was slightly part her lips, as if wanting to scream and stop him.
Suddenly, Zin stopped as his hand hovered right in front of Narha's face.
"That's enough for you, right?" Zin glanced at Narha before touching her forehead with the back of his hand.
The slight flick sent Narha's head snapping back as her eyes went blank. She collapsed to the ground, wounded but alive.
Sure, Zin could easily have finished her off right then. All it would have taken was a single strike, and it would have taken him less than a second, but he didn't do it.
He hadn't come here to kill them, but to ensure that no one would prevent him from participating in the Grim Court.
If several fighters wishing to become Adam's opponent were to arrive at the Grim Court at once, the judge would not waste time on battles between them. Adam's opponent would be chosen at random. Zin could not take any risks.
Moreover, the task before him was not the most difficult one. All he had to do was deal with Batar, Kelya, and Narha, making sure none of them would be able to participate in the battle.
Step.
Zin stepped forward, locking eyes with Kelya.
At that moment, Batar's groan echoed from afar, barely audible from the ground.
"You can fight, but is it worth it?"
Zin held out his hand, offering them the only good outcome.
"Stop right here, or I'll have to continue. You're both stronger than Narha, which means you'll suffer far more serious injuries. I don't think that's what you want."
Batar and Kelya exchanged glances.
It hurt them to admit it, but they knew they didn't stand a chance against Zin. Even if they played all their trump cards, at best, they'd only wound him.
"Tsk." Kelya spat out a clot of blood before glaring at him. "Let's say we back down. We're willing to do it, but only on one condition!"
She waved her hand, pointing at him.
"Tell me, why did you decide to participate in the Grim Court right now? If you don't need a victory over Adam Vinter, then why did you come here today?"
Zin paused to think for a moment. He couldn't tell Kelya and Batar what Es'aha had told him. It was a secret that only he, she, and Kaerno, the one who started all this, were supposed to know.
He didn't like to lie. In fact, he didn't need to do so in this situation.
"That's simple, Kelya. I know that if I do everything right, in this fight I'll hear a new sound, the kind of sound I won't be able to find anywhere else for the next few thousand years."
Kelya's expression froze as Batar's eyes widened in confusion.
They knew Zin wouldn't lie. He simply wasn't that kind of person. All they could do was wonder exactly what Zin was talking about.
What he wanted to hear was the flow of Queen Elisa's blood, the beating of her heart. Zin could do this because of Adam's unique situation. It was his only chance.
He wasn't arrogant enough to be certain that even in half a thousand years, he would be strong enough to stand before Queen Elisa. It was the most heavily guarded place in the Citadel, and the Phantoms stationed there possessed overwhelming power.
"I hadn't thought about it before, but I'd like to see her. What does she look like? What is she doing right now? And…" Zin muttered to himself as his heart began to race. "What does her voice sound like? What tone does she usually speak in?"
True, Zin didn't know what condition Queen Elisa was in. It was a secret the Citadel guarded. Only the strongest Lords knew that Queen Elisa was in a permanent semi-living state.
She wasn't dead, that was certain, but she wasn't alive either compared to an ordinary person.
Seeing Zin's pensive gaze, Batar nodded deeply and rose from the ground. To him, everything was obvious.
Step. Step. Step.
With confident strides, he headed toward Zin. Kelya leaned forward, her eyes narrowed.
'Ah? Has he decided to fight him in close combat? Should I help him, or…?'
Before Kelya could make up her mind, Batar stopped in front of Zin.
He grinned widely and walked on.
Kelya was speechless.
'What the…? What is this muscle-bound guy doing?!'
Tap.
Batar bent down, slung Narha over his shoulder, and turned around.
"You don't mind if we watch your fight, do you?"
Zin shook his head, still looking down.
"No. It's your right as spectators. I can't stop you. I'll be glad to know there are worthy fighters among the spectators."
"Hah, stop praising us when you went and beat the crap out of us."
Batar turned around and waved his hand.
"Come on, Kelya, there's nothing else for us to do here."
Kelya's eyes darted from Zin to Batar until, finally, she gave in and stamped her foot on the ground.
'Damn it! He was better again! Shit!'
The three of them were left with only one question.
Would Zin's opponent be able to last even the first round?
